It does seem to be spreading out - Ibrox and Cessnock are high and they're doing testing at Ibrox car park. I think the rates in Darnley were also high. They were always going to struggle to limit the spread - people travel around the city for work, and kids travel to school. The catchment for the three schools that have limited senior pupils' access is massive.

Mr G appears to have had slow release morphine 😂

He's in lots of pain but waiting on breakfast x

Scottishskifun · 28/05/2021 07:53

Glad the surgery went well and he's started the recovery process!
😂 He did well to text on morphine!

RaspberryCoulis · 28/05/2021 08:04

Hope he's feeling better soon.

Morphine and I don't get on.... it certainly works wonders on the pain but also makes me vomit copiously. That was fun when I had my hysterectomy.

WouldBeGood · 28/05/2021 08:04

Gosh, @Groovee he’s been through the wringer. Good sign if he’s talking breakfast 😃

Ah that's not so good it's spread to there although I can think of a reason why there's been an increase in Ibrox / Cessnock! Wink
titsintiers · 28/05/2021 08:41

Don't think that would be limited to that area though Starry given the number of people involved.

Of course , it'll be a factor though.

Article in The Courier today about a headteacher moaning that a few parents have been in the playground without masks on Confused

At this point, does anyone believe that standing near a school building in the open air without a mask is risky behaviour?

Also Dundee Council saying cases have gone up tenfold so we might be heading back to Level 3 - read the article and cases have gone from 3 to 30.

Hubby took DS on a trip to Edinburgh zoo yesterday as a bit of a treat as he's been a bit sad since leaving England and GPs.
He witnessed a GP telling their GC not to touch anything because of coronavirus and couldn't go on a slide..... I found it really sad that children can't even go to the zoo without fear of it all!

Also found it a bit bonkers as the zoo is outside and it's actually ventilation which is the biggest risk not a slide!

The fear factor has worked far too well!

shouldistop · 28/05/2021 09:34

@Scottishskifun it's awful isn't it. I haven't once told my boy he has to be careful because of corona virus. He still talks about it a lot. It's insidious and is causing even pre-schoolers anxiety.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 28/05/2021 09:43

Instilling fear into children about low risk, perfectly normal things is just disgraceful, and will undoubtedly cause them problems in the future if it hasn't already. My own DS was getting upset around Christmas time saying that he didn't want me to die, and I've taken great pains to try and instil a sense of perspective into him and reassure him that he doesn't need to worry about it. I did wonder what the hell they were being taught at school though.

Scottishskifun · 28/05/2021 09:43

@shouldistop I find it incredibly sad!

We already have issues with DS and hand washing and he's 2! He wants to constantly wash his hands as at nursery he has to do it so frequently. Just think we have set children up for a lifetime of anxiety!

shouldistop · 28/05/2021 09:49

So sad. I think ds nursery are pretty sensible about it all, hand washing after toilet, before food and after messy play like they did before which imo is enough. They've had to split the kids into bubbles though which is a constant reminder to the kids.
Have you guys seen that advert on one of the kids channels (I forget which). "Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze" etc and talking about naughty germs and washing your hands?
Baby ds has a cold just now and big ds was upset and said that he must have given him a cold because he accidentally coughed near him. Why is my 4yo worrying about this?? Sad

Groovee · 28/05/2021 09:52

I spend all my time encouraging risky play at work. It's how children learn to risk assess and make their own choices. It's soul destroying when people don't allow children the chance to be children. It's the one point in their lives they shouldn't be anxious.

Me and morphine don't get on. When I had my gall bladder out I kept clicking my tongue 😂😂 and my nose was itchy.

I've booked a visit to mr G for this afternoon. Washing hung out in the sun. Next step is actually showering as I'm on a go slow post vaccine. I was like this last time. So so exhausted.

NotSoLongGoodbye · 28/05/2021 09:53

I agree about the kids .... I try and talk sensibly to DS about covid but sometimes think it's pointless when they are surrounded by the countless (arbitrary) school rules and having to watch newsround on a daily basis. However, all the rules go out the window at the park ... and quite right too.

Wow that's a lot by 10am!

Yes DS nursery is fab but they still have to do it more than over a year ago and he picks up on the parents using gel as soon as they enter the gate during drop off etc.

I think it makes me really annoyed how much we were told kids forget, it won't effect them too much etc etc and actually kids are so badly effected by it all!

That's plenty, I've chivvied ds out the door to nursery with dh, fed baby ds a couple of times and changed nappies, put him down for a nap and that's about it. I've got a list as long as my arm but I'm mumsnetting instead.

shouldistop · 28/05/2021 10:26

I'm going for a drink with a friend tonight, trying to find a bag that isn't used for nappies. It's been so long!

Groovee · 28/05/2021 10:34

I'm showered. Now to blow dry my hair 😭😭 should have booked the hairdresser 😂🤣

Our parents don't pass the gate. We use gel but out of sight.

We've always washed hands a lot as they get so muddy. But still our attendance is really high. We've not stop singing. Although I do still have to tell children not to cough in my face. But it's been like that for 27 years.

My old setting we used to sing a hand washing song after a sickness bug took most of the nursery down.

The only thing we haven't done all year is brush our teeth.

riverrunning · 28/05/2021 11:41

That is so sad about the grandparents and the slide. One set of our parents would be like that but they're too scared to want to meet us still.

I've done nothing today, I keep doing a bit of token work then going off to sit in the sunny window.

I don't mention covid to the kids, they are prone to anxiety. I didn't even mention it when dd had it til she recovered.

Enjoy your drinks @shouldistop

Glad you are able to go and see Mr G @Groovee. Hope he Is still doing ok:

I was at the park a few weeks ago and a lady was wiping down everything with baby wipes, following the kid around and wiping before she climbed the steps, went down slide etc...then my two touched all the same stuff 5 mins later! 😂

Groovee · 28/05/2021 18:13

Saw Mr G. He looks well but so tired. His ward was quiet. Hoping he'll be home in a few days.
