@rookiemere book a trip to England!

Honestly anyone from England can travel to Scotland regardless so why shouldn't you travel to England. You can always take a lateral flow test to be sure!

There is still some last minute things available! I've been way more relaxed!

rookiemere · 20/05/2021 19:09

@Scottishskifun yes it has crossed my mind that if staying in a Scottish hotel proves problematic, then we can move the venue to south of the border.
Really wish we'd booked something properly for May half term now as DS is off and it now looks like it may be the only window to go away. I can't get rid of this nagging sensation that we're going to be thrust back into full lockdown again, but even if we're not the thought that everything can be cancelled almost on a whim makes me wish I hadn't made any summer plans.

latissimusdorsi · 20/05/2021 19:16

I think @rookiemere this has taken app of our confidence away. We no longer feel we can make plans as there's no certainty in life any more. I've booked to go away in Scotland for a week soon, when the exams teacher assessments are over. I just felt July was too far away. I can no longer plan that far in advance!

Although I do think we will see case numbers fall further as they vaccinate down through the age groups and things will be better by July. But we really need SG to stop counting cases then and just focus on hospital numbers.

Get away for a couple of nights and just do normal things. You'll feel much better for itThanksCakeWine

rookiemere · 20/05/2021 19:30

I really hope so @latissimusdorsi , I genuinely thought I was over this feeling of hopelessness, but this week has been a reactivation of it. It's just too much to expect people to keep (not) living their lives like this.

I expected winter to be rubbish, but thought it would get better from Easter - of course being in Scotland that was delayed, but I thought we'd get a few months of relative normality over the Summer. Maybe we will, but it doesn't feel like that right now.

Haudyourwheesht · 20/05/2021 19:33

I've been feeling very hopeless this week too. When she first announced the return to levels I knew Glasgow would be screwed but was hopeful that they'd take vaccines into account. But apparently not. We can't go on like this forever.

runningpink · 20/05/2021 19:58

Thanks for the virtual hug @titsintiers

@Coquohvan going back to the gym doesn’t suit me, they have slots for booking which really limits when I could go. And I have the fear of track and trace and having to isolate so it’s just not worth it. I really haven’t missed going actually

I mostly run alone. Was meant to meet friends at the weekend to run but I have had to cancel as something has come up which is more important.

I just want to give up, this is just going on and on with little improvement.

I fear Edinburgh going into tier 3 again. Really hope that doesn’t happen

Glad you are having a nice time @Scottishskifun

Boomisshiss · 20/05/2021 20:38

@rookiemere

I feel really low. I'm now not even convinced that our modest hotel stay in the Borders next weekend where we got married will take place. What's to stop Edinburgh going into Tier 3 again, summer holiday plans turned to ash. It just feels pointless trying to look forward to anything anymore.
You are not alone i feel similar. We are just going to go on many day trips instead of booking a holiday. It feels like this year will be a write off too .
riverrunning · 20/05/2021 21:08

It's possible the situation will look better in two weeks - I keep thinking, the mutations aren't resistant to the vaccine, so really we shouldn't expect a return to lockdown...

Yes to this @riverrunning.

I’ve been out for a lovely dinner with DP. it was bustling. It’s cheered me up though I am very full! But I’m heartened by how many people of all ages want to get out abd about. We drove past another couple of busy pubs with food too. I don’t think people will put up with more lockdown

I had a lovely day yesterday and today has felt like 💩. Isolating for Mr G sucks.

Way to go baby @shouldistop commando crawling 🎉🎉

WouldBeGood · 20/05/2021 22:03

@Groovee when’s the op again? Is it 22nd?

Littlemissweepy · 20/05/2021 22:33

Rookiemere I also couldn’t bear edinburgh going back into level 3, but why would it? I think numbers have gone up a bit the last few days but wasn’t that the Saughton Prison outbreak. If they can’t contain an outbreak in a prison where can they?

rookiemere · 21/05/2021 07:45

I think you're right @Littlemissweepy , I checked traveling tabby and numbers appear to have gone down again in Edinburgh.

But the sanctions ( as that's what they are ) are such a blunt instrument. If any area ends up over the dread 50 per 100,000, I doubt that a sensible caveat like it being all prisoners rather than the general populace is going to sway Ms Sturgeon who doesn't like Edinburgh anyway.

I was trying to reduce my St Johns Wort on the basis we were over the worst of it, but think I'll go back to the full recommended dose.

At the minute it feels like a dieter who has lost the weight, but now anxiously weighs themselves on the scale every morning and is too frightened to eat anything enjoyable for fear it will make the all important number swing upwards again.

WouldBeGood · 21/05/2021 07:49

@rookiemere sounds like you’re struggling with it all 💐

I’m glad I got my extra emergency meds. Trying to remain serene is difficult!

The WHO says the vaccines are effective against all the strains so I’m hoping against hope that this latest threat of lockdown passes soon.

Lockdownbear · 21/05/2021 07:50

Not the prisons again?

That's somewhere else they should batter through the injections. All those people living on top of each other. Regardless of what they have done, we still have a duty of care to them and the staff.

WouldBeGood · 21/05/2021 07:51

@Lockdownbear yes, quite. We said on here months ago they should jag the prisons!

OP posts:
ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 21/05/2021 08:01

But can you imagine the public reaction if they'd been jagging prisoners ahead of the vulnerable and key workers?

I do agree they should focus on hotpots now though, whether that's environment's like prisons, or specific neighbourhoods where there are spikes.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 21/05/2021 08:02

(ignore random apostrophe)

WouldBeGood · 21/05/2021 08:41

That’s why it would be better to have had a non political agency or a cross party government dealing with the crisis, so there wasn’t concern about votes or public reaction but rather the right thing to do.

OP posts:
Lockdownbear · 21/05/2021 08:52

The vulnerable have all been done. The NHS staff are done. The police & fire services have been on the end of day list so should all have been done.

But yes if they can't control the outbreaks in prisons then they should be done.

I'd also say military personnel living in barracks, should be done too.

Icannever · 21/05/2021 09:33

We’re in England! It feels very exciting even though we’re just stopped at a service station

WouldBeGood · 21/05/2021 09:37

Woohoo, @Icannever! Enjoy 😊

OP posts:
shouldistop · 21/05/2021 09:40

I was talking to my mum months ago about jagging prisoners as a priority actually. I agree a cross party approach would have been much better.
Have been ordering big ds school uniform, feel a bit emotional about it all. He was only 3 at the start of this pandemic and now he's going to school in a couple of months. How's that happened?!
