I saw Hancock used the phrase 'we are masters of our own fate' and I suppressed a derisive snort - we haven't had mastery of our own fate for a very long time now.

That said, soaring 19th century boys own adventure rhetoric aside, all credit to them for putting their foot on the vaccine gas, it does sound like it's a race between doses and the uptick in cases.

titsintiers · 20/05/2021 10:57

Couldn't agree more @Y0uCann0tBeSer10us

It's an absolute shitshow

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 20/05/2021 12:03

I'm coming to rail about the bloody weather. Dragged myself to the gym this morning and came out and it was pissing down. Have no children today and was full of business now I just cannot be arsed.

riverrunning · 20/05/2021 12:08

So gloomy - contemplated putting heating on. It's May 20!

NotSoLongGoodbye · 20/05/2021 12:13

I'm railing this morning too. Partly because I went on public transport yesterday for the first time in 16 months and got very anxious about the amount of teenagers and men who removed their masks as soon as they sat down ... I felt unsafe and this made me shaky and I had to get off the bus ... hadn't been prepared for this at all and thought I was doing OK despite everything.

Secondly the 3 people who died from rare vaccine effects barely got a mention on the news this morning - no photos, no grieving relatives, no comments about 'tragic how a life has been cut short'. Yet we are still getting the emotional heartstring tugging around Covid hospital admissions / deaths ... it sits badly with me as I think it is equally tragic that people have died as a result of a vaccine reaction and we can't even acknowledge this because of the fear of vaccine hesitancy.

rookiemere · 20/05/2021 12:28

@NotSoLongGoodbye it's such a good point about vaccine deaths. My friends DM in her 70s died as a result a reaction to the vaccine - now it could have been any vaccine just happened to be the covid one - but still a dreadful tragedy. But just totally unrecognised so as not to put people off getting the vaccine.

I do believe that from stats reported it is very rare to get a fatal reaction though.

WouldBeGood · 20/05/2021 12:38

I think it’s time that vaccine deaths and Covid deaths stopped being newsworthy.

Had work this morning and there are plenty things worse than Covid. And the weather is shite.

But on a good note, Spain and Germany ha e both this week rejected self ID. Let’s hope NS and our new cabinet superstars are watching.

@riverrunning I put the heating on. Got soaked on the nursery run. Just about to make ds1 hot chocolate and stick a film on.

frasersmummy · 20/05/2021 14:30

aww man the numbers are climbing .. we are going to go back towards lockdown arent we??

Please tell me that is not going to happen.. I'm starting to panic

shouldistop · 20/05/2021 14:31

@frasersmummy I genuinely don't know if I can handle going back into lockdown.

titsintiers · 20/05/2021 14:36

Try not to panic, 166 cases were in Glasgow alone.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 20/05/2021 14:41

Test positivity is still low 🤞

Icannever · 20/05/2021 14:56

We’re going on holiday to England tomorrow. I might not come back

WouldBeGood · 20/05/2021 15:36

They’re testing everyone who’ll do it so numbers will go up.

They can fuck off with more lockdown

@titsintiers

That's ok then. 👍
titsintiers · 20/05/2021 16:01

I wasn't saying it was a good thing @Haudyourwheesht I meant that Glasgow cases are accounting for a large part of the numbers.

Lockdownbear · 20/05/2021 16:21

They need to batter vaccines into Glasgow folk. Its the only answer.

People's MH cannot take any more. Pull resources from any part of the country that's further ahead than Glasgow and get Glasgow done.

shouldistop · 20/05/2021 16:23

Oh guys, I've told everyone else now. Baby ds has started commando crawling eek! He's not even 6 months yet. Big ds didn't start crawling til nearer 9 months.
Baby proofing required!

WouldBeGood · 20/05/2021 16:27

@shouldistop haha! It’s funny too how with the first one you’re so excited when they start moving, and the next one it’s like, oh no! Nightmare 🤣

OP posts:
shouldistop · 20/05/2021 16:30

I know! And I wasn't expecting it this early! I think it's because he just get ditched on the floor a lot.

RedactedTaeFeck · 20/05/2021 17:09

My brother walked at 8 months @shouldistop. His grandson did the same. His daughter (grandson's mum) was riding a bike without stabilisers just after her 2nd birthday and that was pre balance bike days. My Ds2 was 2 and half when he did the same.

Sounds like you might have an active one on your hands!

But also, how can he be 6 months already, just feels like he was born a couple of weeks ago?

Scottishskifun · 20/05/2021 18:53

@Icannever

We’re going on holiday to England tomorrow. I might not come back
I must admit I'm way more relaxed being down here. Although the news has about Indian variant etc there doesn't seem to be the scare tactic or the impending doom feeling that things will go backwards.

Everyone is just getting on with it sensibly 🤷‍♂️

rookiemere · 20/05/2021 19:01

I feel really low. I'm now not even convinced that our modest hotel stay in the Borders next weekend where we got married will take place. What's to stop Edinburgh going into Tier 3 again, summer holiday plans turned to ash. It just feels pointless trying to look forward to anything anymore.
