@StarryEyeSurprise

I should change that to - it caused the outbreaks in Govanhill / Pollockshields which led to Glasgow staying in tier 3.
FFS, you do not know that.

(As long as you’re clear, you do not blame the people, because then people may accuse you of blaming the folk that travelled back from India with of course, only the Indian variant...you blame the U.K. government.😆)

I'm really not sure why requiring in-home, rather than hotel quarantine is seen as basically letting the virus in with open arms. If everyone arriving in the UK needs a negative test before arriving, and then again on a couple of occasions afterwards, and people quarantine properly (and the rest of the household also does if they can't keep themselves perfectly separate, as per guidance) there seems no reason why the virus would be more likely to "escape" into the community than from a hotel.

If home quarantine wasn't being done properly then that's a problem, but that's an issue with its implementation, surely, rather than it in principle. Is there even any evidence that people didn't follow the regulations and quarantine/ test as required, and the virus didn't "escape" via hospitals/ permitted care visits/ after the 10 days/ via any of the other routes viruses can spread? There may be - I don't know - but it just seems to be accepted that anyone requiring to quarantine at home was off down the shops and back to work the next day and basically ignored their legal obligations.

Hotel quarantine for all was a crazy solution, discriminating between those who could afford it and those that couldn't, and would obviously encourage people to travel via England and then up by public transport or whatever. Yes, there was the message that you shouldn't be travelling abroad, even for permitted reasons - but also the message that if you had a spare £2k to spend on 10 days in a hotel, actually you could. Doesn't seem very equitable.

For anyone not aware, English school half term holidays next week, plenty of
families the adults having already recieved their 2nd vaccination too will be visiting family and friends, choosing to holiday here and therefore supporting the Scottish hospitality and tourism sectors (in lieu of a holiday in the sun, where potential quarantine could be imposed halfway through their break).

This will hugely benefit the local economies across Scotland that desperately need income to recover. Let’s hope the sun comes out and shows the best that Scotland has to offer as a holiday destinationSmile

Today First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will give an update on #coronavirus restrictions.

Television Watch live here
@scotgov
from 12:15pm.

mondaywine · 21/05/2021 11:54

I am very concerned that Midlothian will indeed head into level 3. There have been further school outbreaks in different areas of the county.

Bytheloch · 21/05/2021 11:54

The update this afternoon will be with NS, Humza and Jason.

I’d rather poke my eyeballs with cocktail sticks, it’ll be less painful for my eyes than watching that.

😂 Don't blame you there!

News breaking about SG trying to hide care home deaths and breaking FOI legislation with refusal as well!
Sorry but they are just as bad as WM!

WouldBeGood · 21/05/2021 12:22

The care home thing is a scandal and the cover up even more so.

Corrupt as fuck.

Chemenger · 21/05/2021 12:26

Looks like Midlothian is escaping greater restrictions.

WouldBeGood · 21/05/2021 12:27

And the Cabinet Secretary for older people at the time was Shirley Anne Somerville who is now our Education Secretary. Not boding well.

ElephantOfRisk · 21/05/2021 12:32

They are well known for breaking FOI legislation but nothing ever seems to happen about it.

traintraveller · 21/05/2021 12:37

Glasgow staying in level 3 and East Ren that doesn't have any hospitals staying in level 2. What a bloody joke although I might be tempted to walk along the road to sit inside a pub for a glass of wine.

dancemom · 21/05/2021 12:40

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirms that 414 people tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday, which amounts to 1.9% of all tests.
Ms Sturgeon says its takes the total number of confirmed cases in Scotland to 231,282.
Of the new cases, 212 were in NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, 62 in NHS Lanarkshire and 48 in NHS Lothian.
Ms Sturgeon also says 81 patients are in hospital with a confirmed case (down two) and four people are being treated in intensive care (down one).
No deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours which means the total under the daily measurement remains at 7,664.

I'm not getting to The Ivy in Glasgow for birthday cocktails on June 3rd aren't I? 😭 I know there's bigger worries but I'm just so bloody fed up with this.

Scottishskifun · 21/05/2021 13:32

NHS Grampian have announced drop in clinics for over 30s today on their facebook/Instagram pages for anyone in the area!

Haudyourwheesht · 21/05/2021 13:40

East Ren staying in 2 because despite having higher rates of positive cases than Glasgow they have lower overall numbers. Well. Ok then.

rookiemere · 21/05/2021 13:51

@jennyfromtheblock22 - just come to the Edinburgh Ivy instead . In fact best do it ASAP to be on the safe side - although the driving rain isn't much of a motivator.

TheQueenOfTheNight · 21/05/2021 14:07

Did anyone else notice that she kept referring to "the so-called Indian variant", but the Kent variant was just the Kent variant?

reprehensibleme · 21/05/2021 14:12

Queen, just been talking to Ddad about that - she will be referring to the 'so called Indian variant' as the April 02 variant, but the 'Kent' dirty English variant remains the 'Kent' variant Grin

jennyfromtheblock22 · 21/05/2021 14:20

@rookiemere good idea! But I love the toilets in the Glasgow Ivy so much! God please don't tell me Edinburgh might go back to Level 3? WTF?

EvilOnion · 21/05/2021 14:25

Argh, we've just booked a few days in Edinburgh at the end of June for DS' birthday thinking it was safe... 😭🤞

rookiemere · 21/05/2021 14:29

Ooh I do like a good toilet. My personal favourites are the ones at Fazenda Edinburgh, the cubicles are made out of wood and the smell instantly transforms me to a wonderful cabin we stayed in when in Canada.
I'm just making up scandal and rumours about Edinburgh, but the bar is set so low for cases it does feel inevitable.

Trying to decide if I can justify full membership at David Lloyd. The monthly rate is exorbitant and I'd never be able to sell it to myself on a per visit basis. However I am loving the outdoor pool and the 45 min Bodypump class this morning ( embarrassingly light weights as I've not been for so long ) and as DH says many other aspects of last years 50th were scuppered - actually all of them now I think about it, although there is a vague chance friend and I may be able to go to Duran Duran in 2022 if they're all still alive by then and if we're not on the North Korean variant by then - or maybe we could just name them like hurricanes.

jennyfromtheblock22 · 21/05/2021 15:00

@EvilOnion so have we. Booked the Kimpton hotel for a few nights at the start of July and it's really all we've got planned to look forward to. I'll be gutted if we can't go out for dinner with drinks.

WouldBeGood · 21/05/2021 16:07

I’ve booked Edinburgh in a nice hotel and DP is taking me to the fancy restaurant at the Balmoral and it better bloody well happen!

EvilOnion · 21/05/2021 17:19

We're only booked up for the travel lodge as need seperate rooms (15yo DS and 8yo DD will fight over the oxygen they're breathing 🤣) so it's definitely nothing fancy but it's not here!
