That’s interesting @lockdownbear, I hate air beds, need to try the self inflating mattresses. What I hate about camping is how you have to keep spending lots of money just to try and get half as comfy as being in a house 😀😀. It would be good if you could rent the stuff to try it out first.
There’s a pretty well set up outside camp kitchen in the findhorn place (if it’s allowed to be open due to
Covid) has a couple of gas stoves, big table etc.

WouldBeGood · 15/04/2021 09:20

I I’ve been browsing camping gear, though I should probably just borrow some of our old stuff off my ex to see if it will be more than a one off.

The only obligatory item should be at least 1 litre of your favourite spirit!

WouldBeGood · 15/04/2021 09:30

I like to freeze rose for camping breakfast- keeps it nicely chilled

Yip, we got up in the morning to frost on the outside of the tent, it was freezing. My 10yo normally feels the cold but he was sound on the SIM, with an unzipped sleeping bag. It was a 2/3cm thermarest trail-lite (or something).
The airbeds were freezing, it has been suggested that a blanket over them, between the airbed and sleeping bag would have been warmer, but I'm not messing around. We will all have SIMs next time.

I'd read airbeds were cold but DH said "how?". Because I couldn't explain the physics of how they are cold he refused to splash out on more SIMS. Its something to do with the way the air circulates within them. But learnt the hard way they are freezing, maybe OK in mid summer but not for September.

WouldBeGood · 15/04/2021 09:34

I think I’m too far for an air bed just now: it wound probably give up its fight to stay inflated through the night

There is a camping forum on here in the Travel section if anyone is interested.

Scottishskifun · 15/04/2021 12:05

My rail today is sodding covid recovery I am so fed up with the fatigue and headaches!
I managed 15 minutes in the garden this morning (first time out of the house since March) and had to come back in as I got dizzy and fatigued.

Meh stupid random pandemic illness my husband is completely recovered and fine!

Lockdownbear · 15/04/2021 12:11

I hope you are feeling better soon. It does sound awful for people who get it badly.

Groovee · 15/04/2021 12:15

Much love @Scottishskifun

Excuse my ignorance, what is a SIM for camping.

At Saughton Park with Mr G awaiting lunch from the Garden Bistro that opened here. The food is good but they do struggle to retain staff.

Lockdownbear · 15/04/2021 12:18

Self Inflating Mat, they have a foamy sponge type material in them that draws the air in to inflate them. The foam provides insulation as it holds the air in small pockets.

rookiemere · 15/04/2021 12:24

@Groovee ooh I've heard about that cafe at Saughton and never been. Enjoy your lunch !

mibbelucieachwell · 15/04/2021 12:52

That sounds thoroughly frustrating and tiresome scottishskifun I hope you feel better again soon.

Lidlfix · 15/04/2021 13:04

Wouldbe can I rudely interrupt with a camping question? When you freeze your (breakfast) rose, does it go a bit silty ? That's what happened to my white when I froze it. Would happily convert to rose, I might need to be a wimp and wait until lunchtime though Grin

WouldBeGood · 15/04/2021 14:23

@Lidlfix no, it’s always been fine! I freeze it in miter plastic water bottles (classy) 😃

I’ve only been to Saughton to go to the jail.

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 15/04/2021 14:24

@Scottishskifun that’s rubbish, and particularly galling as your DH is fine!

RedactedTaeFeck · 15/04/2021 14:28

Used to love saughton gardens, the beautiful rose garden and bandstand then a run around the grassy bit (where the play park is now) there was an older park in my day at the east gate which had a proper paddling pool. Happy days.

Mistressinthetulips · 15/04/2021 15:08

@WouldBeGood

I’ve only been to Saughton to go to the jail.
Grin I'm imagining you delivering that in a hard-as-nails tone in an Edinburgh crime drama. Grin I've gone been dragged to the park many times but if there is food available that's a game changer, will agree the next time ds pesters me!
Mistressinthetulips · 15/04/2021 15:16

(Apologies if humour inappropriate with regard to this Blush)

WouldBeGood · 15/04/2021 15:27

Humour is never inappropriate! Especially round lawyers and jails 😃

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 15/04/2021 15:29

I remember being outraged when I went to the gate at being asked “Agent or social work?”

Luckily the other guy said “She’s far too well dressed to be a social worker” so I felt vindicated 😂

My kids want to go camping this summer, I'm not keen but I fear some sort of glamping may need to happen - dh has helpfully offered to drop us off and pick us up! I'd need a bottle of whisky to get through it let alone frozen wine!

ResilienceWanker · 15/04/2021 15:43

@WouldBeGood

I’ve only been to Saughton to go to the jail.
Grin Entirely in a professional capacity I'm sure Blush Actually, my mum was talking about that cafe a couple of weeks ago. I think she said her podiatrists husband or something had got a job there (that is typical of the standard of anecdote she shares...). Sounds nice though. In any case, sounds like MrG is on the up if you're out and about having swanky lunches groovee- excellent news!

Sorry you're still having to rail scottishskifun. So unfair that you're the only one in your family to have been so badly affected (well, a good thing, presumably, but still unfair!) Take it easy, though.

I would like it put on record that I will never think camping, even luxury, glampy camping is a good idea. I think I was scarred as a child with "character forming" summer camps in big military tents with groundsheets, crapping in a chemical toilet and washing in freezing buckets of water. Well, I suppose it did form my character in that I'm not paying any amount of money for anything less than a luxury b and b.
