Oh dear.

Surely not? Why?

Cases shouldn’t mean restrictions when we have the vaccines.

Students and office workers will all be vaccinated by autumn. It's unvaccinated school kids who will be the spreaders then.
unvaccinated kids going abroad on holiday, mixing with kids from other countries, returning home and straight back to school is very worrying Confused

WouldBeGood · 11/05/2021 10:21

I don’t get the doom?

We really need to stop obsessing about the new cases
They are obviously going to increase as things open up but with hospitalisations and deaths so reduced and so many more people being vaccinated every day it’s time to get back to normal

But if all the adults around them are vaccinated, what’s the major issue?
ScotlandUnited · 11/05/2021 11:20

Its unlikely students will have had both jabs and what about international students? They may have to quarantine but if that quarantine is in student halls it may well spread again.

And yes, I'm also worried about holidays and school pupils. I'd like to take my DD on holiday with us but the risks and the hassle of testing / having to quarantine mean it could still be a while yet before we get a foreign family holiday. And prices of UK holidays are ridiculous.

Mistressinthetulips · 11/05/2021 11:28

I think in the scenario described of being surrounded by unvaccinated people would certainly test the effectiveness of your own vaccine!
I don't understand how the mutations work but this seems an obvious "in" for them.
On another thread yesterday a poster wrote about her dc's long term pain following Covid - they were 11.
Obviously we have to find a way through it but I don't think saying a large infection rate doesn't matter if it's young people is the right way.

ssd · 11/05/2021 11:28

A friend of mine who works in the NHS told me they are expecting another lockdown in September. But i dont see how that can be. In England there is talk of a 3rd vaccine for over 50s for the new varients. It must be because of this. But I've only heard that from one person and im not sure what to think.

Scottishskifun · 11/05/2021 11:31

@WouldBeGood

I don’t get the doom?
I think people have become institutionalised in their own homes and the unseen mass anxiety this has caused!

Personally I didn't make enough of my freedom last summer so even with long covid I'm making the most of freedoms allowed within my energy levels!

😂 Actually plus side of getting covid my anxiety around it has massively reduced even if I feel like crap still!

ssd · 11/05/2021 11:36

@Scottishskifun, do you have long covid now? I'm sorry to hear that Flowers

Mistressinthetulips · 11/05/2021 11:39

I don't feel doom, I just feel cautious I suppose. If I was exposed to fewer people, or had had both vaccines, I would be less concerned.

ssd · 11/05/2021 11:47

I've felt doom this past year, but i have health anxiety which squews everything. Ive been slaughtered on mn a few times so im really reluctant to post now about covid and my anxiety. I'm getting counselling but not sure its helping...

I posted

latissimusdorsi · 11/05/2021 11:48

I'm not too concerned about catching Covid once I've had both vaccines. I'm more concerned about the Gov continuing to count cases and base restrictions on this!

ssd · 11/05/2021 11:48

I posted above about my friends comment as i dont know what to make of it.

WouldBeGood · 11/05/2021 12:01

There’s absolutely no evidence of any vaccine resistance if that helps anyone.

And vaccines massively reduce transmission.

And sad as it is post viral illness isn’t a reason for continuing restrictions.

Better to vaccinate actual vulnerable abroad.

OP posts:
Spectrumofhumanlife · 11/05/2021 12:08

I haven’t had either vaccine (early 40’s). I’ve had Covid. A fairly nasty bout, like a bad case of flu. I suffered post viral fatigue for around 12 weeks afterwards. I still don’t think the potential for that happening is worth continued restrictions, due to the severe impact restrictions are having on all areas of life.

RaspberryCoulis · 11/05/2021 12:18

I will be dancing round the living room if she announces that masks are gone in schools.

riverrunning · 11/05/2021 12:26

I don't want to be gloomy but I can't see how we can say whatever restrictions we do that we categorically won't have another winter lockdown due to a vaccine resistant mutation.

I'd have thought it sensible for nhs, school planners etc. to be thinking about winter plans because that is the obvious worst case scenario.

My take from that though is that I'm going to enjoy every bit of freedom I can, whilst I can, because we can't know what will happen this winter.

Scottishskifun · 11/05/2021 12:34
@Scottishskifun, do you have long covid now? I'm sorry to hear that Flowers
Yeah now officially in the long covid category rather frustrating there is little help and no scottish clinics!

I wouldn't worry so much about what your friend has said there is lots of planning and prep going on including for a 3rd wave in August/Sept. Because they have been caught out it's natural for them to plan and the booster vaccines will be going ahead to hopefully limit it.

RaspberryCoulis · 11/05/2021 12:43

Meh, nothing major in the changes then. Only difference for us will be being able to have a drink with a meal inside as we've had people in the house and I've hugged my mum.

WouldBeGood · 11/05/2021 12:53

Oh, that’s disappointing @RaspberryCoulis

Railing against no fucking escape

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 11/05/2021 12:57

Oh! But I think we are now allowed people visiting indoors?

Which I’ve done anyway but my pal is scared.

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 11/05/2021 13:03

And cinemas and theatres open?

6 people up to 3 households inside, including overnight

OP posts:
SoMuchForSummerLove · 11/05/2021 13:04

There's more opening than I had anticipated tbh, and up to 500 people at outdoors events I think she said?

It feels pretty positive to me, although I recognise I am not on the right thread for saying that ... Smile

WouldBeGood · 11/05/2021 13:07

Yeah, I’m surprised @SoMuchForSummerLove! Now I’ve looked at it, there are changes.

This thread is for all and everything except trying to cheer people up annoyingly or resilience wankery 😃
