Dentists seem to be a total lottery. Our will only see us if we're having any sort of problem, which we're not as far as we know, but it would be nice to have that confirmed! (I had a wisdom tooth out just before lockdown to allow a filling in the tooth in front of that, and I had no idea anything was wrong beforehand... Just picked up at a routine appointment. And I'd quite like for the same not to have to happen on the other side as it was fucking traumatic). DPs on the other hand have now had 2 routine checkups since last march. They even cancelled an appointment they couldn't make cos of the snow and got another one a couple of weeks later. Total dentist envy. Envy Opticians I don't know about. I think I'm due a biannual check, but not too keen to chase, as my glasses seem fine at the moment. But whenever I do go I always come out having spent several hundred pounds as my prescription always seems to get worse. Which I could do without at the moment. Bloody eyes.

On plants - I think garden centres will be allowed to open from the 2nd (or 5th, maybe?) so if you can hang on for a week you'll have more choice.

groovee Flowers for you and MrG. What a nightmare. And scottishskifun hope you're doing OK! Happy shit birthday to the mini-pizzas. Cake And wahey for all the vaccinees!!

Mistressofmany · 27/03/2021 14:33

@Lockdownbear

Group 9 is that 50 somethings?
Yes - if I've got that right - I'm 50.

Thanks Resilience, I should wait and get something nicer in the plant department, that's not too long Smile

fandabbydoozy · 27/03/2021 15:50

my bestie is coming to visit for the first time in over a year. I'm so excited! Socially distanced and outside but yay!

rookiemere · 27/03/2021 16:38

Enjoy @fandabbydoozy it's such a pleasure to be able to catch up with people

Groovee · 27/03/2021 17:45

Those who got their vaccine letters, when are your appointments? Mr G is in this group and is the only one out his friends who got no mail today.

Mistressofmany · 27/03/2021 17:52

Grovee mine was for ten days from now, letter today. Was able to alter the date by a few days on the website (you can do this once you have the letter not before).

DeepfriedPizza · 27/03/2021 18:41

B&Q is open to go and look at bedding plants. I saw some in b&m but not many

Mistressofmany · 27/03/2021 19:13

Great, thank you 👍Flowers

shouldistop · 27/03/2021 19:36

Talking of dentists. I had to get 2 fillings when I was pregnant (normally free for pregnant women) but they weren't doing nhs work so had to pay out for 2 private fillings and a private scale and polish.

ssd · 27/03/2021 19:41

@Groovee, phone the helpline, they'll tell you when the appointments are...0800 030 8013

ssd · 27/03/2021 19:42

And they'll change it if it doesn't suit you. They are very helpful.

Groovee · 27/03/2021 20:43

He won't phone @ssd 🙄. But a rough idea helps as he's due back at the hospital that week.

ssd · 27/03/2021 21:32

You can phone they'll tell you.

Mistressofmany · 27/03/2021 21:32

I'm going to have to phone as I've somehow locked myself out of my NHS account Confused and I don't have all the details of the re-arranged appointment written down.
Hopefully I've not had my appt deleted or being blocked Shock

Mistressofmany · 27/03/2021 21:34

My GP's receptionist never sounds surprised when I phone up about something that's wrong with my dh, they must be used to men being slow to come forward about health related things Grovee Smile

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 27/03/2021 23:44

B&Q are open for everything including plants. Just turn up, browse, buy. Like the olden days.

WouldBeGood · 28/03/2021 09:05

Just say you’re him on the phone @Groovee - as it’s Scotland it will be a hate crime if they accuse you of sounding like a woman 😃

This is true. It’s quite the experience, having a slow walk round B&Q just for the hell of it. I only went to get something essential not that essential at all but our branch is opposite a drive thru Costa, so overall it was a top day out🤪🤣

All garden centres open as normal again from next Sunday, isn’t it? I’ve lost track.

WouldBeGood · 28/03/2021 10:55

More Swinney based railing.

He’s announced they’re going to give a laptop to every schoolchild. Fucking ridiculous at this point. They should have done this a year ago, as they promised, but only to people who need them. Giving ds a laptop from public funds is a shocking waste of money. If it ever happens, of course.

Plus it makes me suspicious the hopeless fucker is planning more “blended learning”.

OP posts:
mibbelucieachwell · 28/03/2021 11:03

wouldbegood Honestly you couldn't make it up. At the point the schools are going to be going back pupils are all getting laptops HmmGrin
In Highland region I think the secondary children were all given chrome books a few years ago.

I sometimes wonder if they're making education too dependent on digital technology. Obviously it would be difficult to organise, but I'm sure there would be a case for textbooks and jitters going home and collected by someone in a van.

Bytheloch · 28/03/2021 11:03

I saw the SwinneyBot was out on the election campaign on Fri, meeting folk and posting to his Twitter. Wondering if he had to encounter any parents on his travels? Doubt it.

mibbelucieachwell · 28/03/2021 11:04

Ach. Jotters. Digital technology seems to be giving me the jitters.

UnderHisAye · 28/03/2021 11:06

Great, laptops for the kids now that I've paid back the £600 I had to spend last March on buy now pay later.

SempreSuiGeneris · 28/03/2021 11:12

BytheLoch you've sold me on a plan. I need gardening gloves. I can even walk to B&Q and break the trip halfway home at Starbucks. Grin

Don't know why Swinney doesn't just go All In with Free broadband all round and a choice of permanent home based learning for the Highlands and Islands. Would also be a decent vote winner with the growing band of home educators in South Side and West End of Glasgow (is this also a thing in Edinburgh).

Scottishskifun · 28/03/2021 11:47

Jeez does JS think parents are that stupid?!
It's way too late and most LA have already forked out to provide laptops to kids who don't have them (or at least my two local ones did!)

Definitely agree it's not a good sign that they might try and push blended learning especially for the older ones all that does is increase the learning gap! I really do despair over the SNP and the education record it's absolutely shocking!
