Just in case railing remains required.

I can escape on my own or with DS but DH can't break the rules due to his job.

The border cross is easier for DH as we have unwell family members so counts as "legitimate"

rookiemere · 10/04/2021 12:47

@Scottishskifun is it bad that I thought lucky you when you said you had ill relatives in England? No need to answer as I know it is .

Bytheloch · 10/04/2021 12:59

@shouldistop

Anyone still rigidly staying in council cages until NS gives them permission to leave, should’ve gone to Specsavers

I know, it makes no sense but I feel had for those who are too worried about fines etc to leave their council area.
My step dad absolutely can't break any guidance / laws due to his job Sad his last day was the other day and he's using annual leave until retirement in a couple of weeks.

Absolutely- it’s awful for the folk that are being made to feel so bad, especially if they want to leave for legitimate/seeing family reasons. It’s the fact the council area limits make no sense and it’s those rules specifically that I am frustrated with. I’m actively encouraging folk to make any journey that’s important to them, as I have been doing.
rookiemere · 10/04/2021 13:13

@Bytheloch but there are still police vans in our area - certainly there was when I visited a few things within council limits last time. I'd love to go to North Berwick but it seems silly to risk a fine when we should be able to go legitimately in 16 days time. Come back to me though if we're not Grin.

Scottishskifun · 10/04/2021 13:42

@rookiemere when you realise that you can travel across the border for a wedding because they would get hauled over the coals in court due to human rights breaches it makes you realise how ridiculous the rules are!
So you can go and spend a day with up to 15 or more households because of a marriage but you can't to see family/friends from 1-2 households or no other households and have a trip..... But the later apparently risks spread and is "illegal" whilst the former is not......
There is no logic in it because the higher risk is of course the wedding!

My tip would be book where you want then go online to a registry office near where you want to go and pick a wedding to keep in your back pocket if worried.

In 16 days time perhaps Edinburgh Zoo will deem it ‘safe’ for the animals if someone from Perthshire walks outside on their premises, because Edinburgh City Council folk are already safe enough to do so🤣
Exactly why it’s arbitrary nonsense and could easily be lifted just now to enable people to freely travel without fear of fine which is not happening anyway to walk or sit in parks, gardens with relatives and friends.

See also, self catering opens on Monday in England, coincides with last week of school holidays in many parts. Trip to see the DGPs all legit for the children if you’re in England. We won’t even have that officially on the 26th!

WouldBeGood · 10/04/2021 13:54

I want to travel just for fun. No actual worthy reason. But I feel no guilt about it. Perfectly normal stuff.

OP posts:
Bytheloch · 10/04/2021 13:58

🤣 no actual worthy reason

What has it come to, that we have to have a worthy reason🤣 I’m with you @WouldBeGood just to have fun and have a life is the preference, obviously.

Total nonsense, isn't it?

We haven't seen my parents in the Borders since last summer. I would be happy to take the kids down next weekend to spend the day but noooooo, not allowed, too dangerous. Stay local. Hmm I would happily break the rules but mum and dad live in a very small village and everyone would know they had visitors. Given that the neighbours know I live in Glasgow, mum is worried about being the local pariah. You coudln't make it up.

latissimusdorsi · 10/04/2021 15:08

That's so sad your parents feel that way @RaspberryCoulis
What have we done to people!

runningpink · 10/04/2021 15:12

Iv got a friend coming for a few drinks in the garden and it’s currently snowing! 😩

I am happy for her to come indoors but I’m 90% sure she will refuse.

I won’t feel the cold after a few alcoholic beverages will I?!

WouldBeGood · 10/04/2021 15:21

Maybe she will, @runningpink - it is freezing!

I’m sure it was on here I saw rum in tea recommended as a warming beverage 😃

OP posts:
ResilienceWanker · 10/04/2021 15:45

Oof! Hope she does runningpink! And if not, yes, copious booze will help. It's a tricky one, though, given how much ScotGov approves of booze, I'm not sure which approach would merit the most finger wagging.

And yes, I want to do pointless travel just because, too. But I'd like there to be a pub with a fire and a good selection of wines at some point in the expedition. Which won't be on the cards for some time in either Scotland or England I think Sad

Icannever · 10/04/2021 18:20

Try hot water bottles under your coats @runningpink if you can’t get an inside drink. You might be surprised though as even usually strict people are definitely relaxing the rules a lot more now

runningpink · 10/04/2021 19:38

Actually not too bad outside, my feet are freezing but fire pit is helping. (Don’t particularly like them but needs must)

WouldBeGood · 10/04/2021 20:56

I love fire @runningpink! Enjoy 🍷

Lockdownbear · 11/04/2021 09:36

Go get the jab - jabba.

The local rules are beyond frustrating.
Raspberry I'd visit your parents why on earth not? You were having a MH crisis couldn't sleep worrying about their mortality and never seeing them again. I might be heartless but you could even throw in the recent high profile death has triggered those feelings.

And I'd say that to anyone with family further afield they want to visit. Particularly older relatives who have been vaccinated the risk has to be low.

shouldistop · 11/04/2021 09:36

I've booked my 'me-time' for this week. Today dh is taking the kids to the park, it should coincide with the baby's nap but I'll give him a bottle of milk to take just incase.
On Friday I'm breaking the rules and the woman that does my nails is coming out to the house to do my nails and toenails, DH is going to take his lunch at that time, take the baby out for a walk and make sure he doesn't have any calls booked in for after lunch so he can keep an eye on the baby while my nails get finished.
I didn't get much sleep last night but it feels good knowing I'll have a couple of hours of peace this week. I've found myself getting snappy with my 4yo which really isn't fair as he's a good boy really.

WouldBeGood · 11/04/2021 09:41

Oh, @shouldistop I’m jealous! I’d love my nails done. I’m really pleased you’ve got a wee bit of time to yourself sorted. Good for you, and your family 😊
