I see Scotland has the worst 7 day rolling case rate of all the 4 UK nations now. After starting lockdown in a much better position relatively. And we have had tougher restrictions.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 14/03/2021 20:45

I wonder why. 🤔

rookiemere · 14/03/2021 20:51

@Lockdownbear but what can the UK government do other than be disappointed that Scotland not progressing as fast with vaccines as England?

It's utterly infuriating. Doubtless of Scotland were ahead with the vaccines and the infection rates significantly lower we would be hearing all about in on the daily updates. But with the reverse situation nothing is said, and we the citizens get the joy of being locked up for longer.

ssd · 14/03/2021 20:54

The numbers might be higher cos of the rangers get togethers last week. And the vaccines seem slower. Were a bit fucked just now.

Lockdownbear · 14/03/2021 20:57

I'm not sure but I'd assume that they could take it out of SG hands and sort it.

Even if it means redistributing the army medics. My next suggestion won't be cheap but bring the vaccinators from England north, make it worthwhile for them financially and pay for accommodation.

ssd · 14/03/2021 21:02

I posted on the other thread. 2 people early 60s. One in Glasgow awaiting first jab, other in London close to getting 2nd vaccine. Not category 6.

So unfair.

What can we do?

ssd · 14/03/2021 21:03

I hope the calculator is wrong. Mine now says mid May, it was early April before. I work in a supermarket ,christ almighty.

rookiemere · 14/03/2021 21:05

@Lockdownbear I'd love that to happen and probably not as expensive as having to pay furlough for the extra weeks/months if Scotland falls seriously behind.
But will never happen. BG stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to criticising anything in Scotland. At the minute SNP due to lose some seats in May election but if BG weighs in heavy handedly it would probably backfire.

The infuriating thing is that BG has said that they could and would help but offer not taken up because well we're Scotland and would cause loss of face.

They do however seem to be vaccinating in waves so hopefully pace will pick up significantly over next couple of weeks.

Scottishskifun · 14/03/2021 21:05

@Lockdownbear I'm now way down the list at the 30-40s I have asthma and until they changed the criteria for that was highlighted as a priority group so it's frustrating.

I know the calculator is an estimate but it keeps slipping and my LA is one of the worst so far on vaccinations so it's not really inspiring much confidence that mine will come up before that!

rookiemere · 14/03/2021 21:05

Maybe another way to do it is Scottish people travel to England for their vaccine Grin.

@StarryEyeSurprise not according to the calculator they aren't! 11th of May I get for England, 26th of June is for Scotland.

anon444877 · 14/03/2021 21:13

Can't help thinking this vaccine letter thing in Lothian has dented it - hopefully it'll get caught up and they'll be boasting about record numbers next week. Two colleagues of dh who are 60 haven't had first dose yet.

rookiemere · 14/03/2021 21:20

Well according to DHs Daily Telegraph subscription (which may or may not be partisan) all over 50s are due to receive their invitations this week in England. This matches up to people I work with already having received their first dose in England some in their 40s.

From NHS Lothian FB page, over 60s are due to receive their invite next week if they haven't already, so certainly Lothian is way behind England.

As I say it does seem to come in flurries, quite a number of local colleagues with underlying conditions got their first vaccine a couple of weekends ago, but I've heard of very little people getting it since then.

It's infuriating that they've chosen to send out expensive, slow to arrive letters to let people know about their booking.

WouldBeGood · 14/03/2021 21:21

They are not on a par just now @StarryEyeSurprise.

England is way ahead on second vaccines.

I understand Scotland is supposed to be speeding things up now, as I posted on the vaccine thread.

Hope so. The lack of organisation has been shite

Icannever · 14/03/2021 21:22

My mum who is mid 60s just got hers yesterday

WouldBeGood · 14/03/2021 21:22

I can just about see letters for the elderly, but pretty much all “middle aged” have mobiles and an online appointment system could also work

Littlemissweepy · 14/03/2021 21:40

My dad 64 got his yesterday (Lothian), close friend 53 in London getting hers Tuesday and her second dose already booked for 3 June. I know these stories are all anecdotal but ffs come on!! case rates are not going to come down much more until the working population are vaccinated in big numbers. And it is case rates that will drive the frigging tiers.

Lockdownbear · 14/03/2021 21:40

The letters I understand as some people do change numbers but not inform their GP. Also many people won't answer numbers they don't know, or that come up as Private / withheld.a

But the lack of organisation in Scotland is embarrassing. The words piss-up and brewery come to mind. This coming from a party that think Scotland could run itself.
Sorry but if they can't sort this I have lost what little faith I had left that Scotland would be ok independent.

Thank God I was out voted in 2014.

WouldBeGood · 14/03/2021 21:44

Yes @Lockdownbear

I think online appointments would work now

WouldBeGood · 14/03/2021 21:45

We should have had a UK strategy

Lockdownbear · 14/03/2021 21:51

They have a UK strategy in that the vaccines are ordered and distributed per head of population.

The fact that Scotland were still faffing around recruiting people while England was banning injections into arms is the real issue.

WouldBeGood · 14/03/2021 21:57

Yes, sorry, I meant just a UK wide policy on vaccination rather than just distribution

MrsAmaretto · 14/03/2021 22:22

Think @Lockdownbear has it right. In England people who are in the St Johns Ambulance etc are able to become vaccinators, in Scotland it’s folk with professional registrations only or Band 3 Healthcare Assistants but they have to supervised. I understand that Pfizer is difficult to do, but Astra Zeneca is straightforward.

I also wonder if it’s something to do with goodwill amongst staff? In Shetland it’s existing staff (there’s no new nurses etc to be magicked up or stolen from neighbouring health boards) and they are doing extra hours but maybe there’s not the same goodwill towards employers at Lothian?

Also we’re not getting letters for appointments - it’s phonecalls, must be easier to make sure it suits people?

My friends on fb aged 49 & 48 seem to have been called up today for appointments tomorrow.

Perhaps once the islands are done some staff will go down to help mainland boards?

Ginsmything · 14/03/2021 22:28

I don’t know if this has already been stated but in Lothian and Borders there was an issue with the blue envelopes being sent out. I believe that now they are starting to catch up so hopefully numbers will increase very soon
