Haha I can see that.
But purdah rules are very strict with serious reprocussions if breached (also by political opposition) I think they are more actively avoiding tangling themselves in knots with that then the report due.

speedtalker · 22/03/2021 13:35

So they're drafting an indyref bill for first half of next parliament! I don't know what else to say.

speedtalker · 22/03/2021 13:36

I mean they've published draft legislation ffs

WouldBeGood · 22/03/2021 13:36

It’s fucking ridiculous @speedtalker

Scottishskifun · 22/03/2021 13:37

Jeez I want a political party which focuses on the economic and health recovery that covid has caused not another bloody referendum which costs millions to billions!

UnderHisAye · 22/03/2021 13:41

The party whose point of existence is to bring about an independent Scotland?!

Surely not.

speedtalker · 22/03/2021 13:46

...but for the first half of the next parliament? The country's finances are on its knees!

UnderHisAye · 22/03/2021 13:51

Yes, but obviously they believe independence will improve the situation.

Whether they're right or wrong isn't for me to say, but it would be a very strange political party which didn't try to run the country in accordance with its beliefs.

Nipoleonthenoncommital · 22/03/2021 13:55

It'll garner support from the Indy at whatever cost brigade. Also a nice Segway for whatever the Hamilton report says.

Absolutely this. I get the rage at them insulting my intelligence by announcing this today of all days.
Nipoleonthenoncommital · 22/03/2021 14:10

Me too. Shower of shites that they are.

UnderHisAye · 22/03/2021 14:14

We're in an election cycle now, do you honestly expect them not to try to engage voters with their vision for the future?

You can not like a party, but you still have to allow for them to exist and do the things that the other parties are doing pre-election.

Look over here. Look what’s happening over here.
UnderHisAye · 22/03/2021 14:18

Oh I get it. But if they were not spending today trying to change the headlines, their entire PR department should be fired.

SempreSuiGeneris · 22/03/2021 14:23

That's what a Manifesto is for.
This is the heart of the problem. The SNP seem to have forgotten there is a difference between a Political Party and the Scottish Government.

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/03/2021 14:29

Also saying question will be the same, then you read further and it's changed to "should". No, they got the rub of the green and got to dictate the question last time. This time it should be the same as the brexit one. They are perfectly happy to go along with the result of that as far as Scotland is concerned , or do they think people are stupid/didn't understand? In which case you can't rely on saying that more voted to stay in Europe than leave. Canny have your cake and eat it.

snowcoveredcampsies · 22/03/2021 15:09

Thank goodness! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Fingers crossed for a majority in May and then let's hopefully get this done.

So you won't expect the Conservatives to campaign at the next election, what with them being in government?
WaxOnFeckOff · 22/03/2021 15:31

So you won't expect the Conservatives to campaign at the next election, what with them being in government?

It's the Scottish Government that has published the bill, not the SNP as a party.

That is the point. It's blatant electioneering but done under scotgov, not as a manifesto.

WouldBeGood · 22/03/2021 15:35

It’s like the tories had started their brexit shite at a time when the country is at breaking point due to Covid

snowcoveredcampsies · 22/03/2021 15:44

But it's an SNP government. Is it illegal to have done this? Does it go against any parliamentary laws?

Surely they, as the elected government, can propose such a thing?

On Scotsnet there seems to be some belief that the SNP should put independence on the back burner because some people don't like it. The same old drivel gets trotted out that only 25% of the electorate voted for them blah blah blah. Well tough shit that the other political parties do nothing to engage their voters. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm personally delighted! Grin

UnderHisAye · 22/03/2021 15:48

@WouldBeGood

If it's what they think is best for the country long-term then what would be the problem with them doing that?
WaxOnFeckOff · 22/03/2021 15:52

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. It's clearly designed as a distraction and put out a couple of days before purdah. I personally couldn't care less, it's so transparent and if the faithful fall for it then that's their look out.

It's not like they haven't had 5 years to put it out. Nothing has materially changed for today being the most appropriate time to issue it.
