Actually I'd argue that the worst thing to come out of this pandemic is the thousands of excess deaths, the folk dying alone in hospital and the inability to give people a proper funeral.

MaxNormal · 21/03/2021 22:13

Ah yes, mustn't grumble about our lives going to utter shit if we're not actually dead.

snowcoveredcampsies · 21/03/2021 22:20

Of course you can grumble. This is just a difference of opinion and clearly I am in the minority.

RaindropsSplashRainbows · 21/03/2021 22:36

MaxNormal agree with the points on moralising and the nudge psychology.

What a physical and mental fallout we will be coping with, some of it from covid but plenty from lockdowns too.

I don't know if this will work (you don't need an account to see it) but what hope do we have! There's risk assessment to see another family etc, then there's this! The mind boggles.

RaindropsSplashRainbows · 21/03/2021 22:48

Golightly it is so true that must have done their best and far more than was expected.

Scottishskifun · 21/03/2021 22:55

@hilbil21 yep houseparties are very different I would count this as despite being in the garden.
The transmission risk does reduce outside but almost definitely not enough to counter that shenanigans!

hilbil21 · 21/03/2021 22:57

I mean I think the same way as yourself and @WouldBeGood but this is nonsense really. Saying that I don't think the SG should have let the game go ahead, and I support Rangers.... although not to that extent Hmm

MaxNormal · 21/03/2021 22:59

I think realistically though gatherings like that will happen more and more anyway if they don't unlock.

hilbil21 · 21/03/2021 23:02

I am not a total rule abider by any means but the guilt I would feel going to something like that would be off the scale.

And presumably all these individuals will send kids to school or nursery today - or will take themselves into work and potentially put others in danger.

Not everyone has the luxury of making their own risk assessments and they have to rely on the general masses to take sensible precautions.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 22/03/2021 08:54

It'll also be defended as 'it was outside' but I think we all know that at least half of these folk will have headed inside when it got chilly and they'd had a few drinks.

It's highly unlikely that rangers' (I'm not for a second suggesting it would have been different if it had gone a different way, btw) league victory has not at least partially added to the current rise in cases.

hilbil21 · 22/03/2021 11:05

Even if they didn't go inside they will all have been in and out using the toilet and not washing their hands. I don't think there's a briefing today is there?

Scottishskifun · 22/03/2021 11:35

They have changed the briefings to when there is an important change/public announcement so unlikely.

hilbil21 · 22/03/2021 11:51

Ah yes I heard that but for some reason thought there was one today and that started tomorrow. I'm actually glad they're only going to be when required.

WouldBeGood · 22/03/2021 11:58

@Scottishskifun at least that’s some good news 😃

UnderHisAye · 22/03/2021 12:18

Oh I didn't know that! That was a wee signpost in the middle of my day. Oh well!

RaspberryCoulis · 22/03/2021 12:19

Has the BBC finally seen sense and stopped broadcasting the Daily Sturgeon Show?

Here's hoping.

speedtalker · 22/03/2021 12:30

I always thought the daily numbers came from the SG via the BBC. Are they published somewhere else daily if they aren't going to be announced?
(I assume that's where Dancemom gets them?)

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/03/2021 12:34

They appear on Public Tableau at 2pm and Travelling Tabby is updated at 3pm.

Earlier than that, the BBC usually gives the figures as part of the livestream from the update. It also gives them at the weekend when there is no update but I can't remember if that's after 2 when Public Tableau has the figures.

hilbil21 · 22/03/2021 12:38

I think she said they were stopping because of purdah. No doubt they will resume after that Hmm

speedtalker · 22/03/2021 12:40

Thanks. I have a habit now of expecting the figures around 12.30pm (annoying when there's a 'big announcement' at 2.20) and then I check the coronavirus dashboard after 4pm- it fits in with my daily routine working around school better. I'll need to change my expectations!

Also- I saw in an article once a projection of when the UK was expecting different vaccines week by week going on months into the future. Does anyone know where you can see that? I'd like to see when the dip is due, what the proportions are of the vaccines coming in, and maybe also an idea of when Novavax and Morderna are coming in. It's all to tell myself that we still have vaccines coming in over the next few months.....

Scottishskifun · 22/03/2021 13:22

Ofgem ruled it wasn't an unfair political advantage but BBC said it would give the same amount of air time to the other political parties during the election so that it stayed fair and in partial. SG decided to cut back to only when essential/big announcements probably in part due to the journalists questions and purdah.

They were useful when they were being used for big announcements and tier changes but as soon as that switched to being done in parliament they became pretty much redundant other then to be told numbers and to wash our hands...... 🙄

RaspberryCoulis · 22/03/2021 13:25

A cynic would say it's very convenient timing, given that tomorrow the independent committee is likely to say Sturgeon lied to parliament.
