It’s feels like we are not permitted to do all the little free things but we can do all the stuff that costs money. Yes to Cafes, bars, shops, gyms, hair cuts, events (prob football matches) but no you can’t meet up with people from more than two households even outside.
Feel a bid fed up

Bytheloch · 16/03/2021 19:05

And if you still follow the council area guidance, you’ll be able to see your local hairdresser or coffee shop owner more than you can see a close relative or friend who lives in another area.
Seriously ridiculous to keep the council area rules in now, we’re currently all subject to the same restrictions on the mainland, so why the hell does it matter how far someone has travelled to meet outside/in a garden?

As I’ve said on another thread, use your common sense to protect your mental health.

makingitupaswegoon · 16/03/2021 19:06

Sorry I'm really confused but what is the score with children under 12? Couldn't see anything in the guidance - when can they have playdates indoors? Also when will organised activities such as swimming start for them.
I'm utterly depressed facing another Easter not allowed out our LA area with bored DS.

RaindropsSplashRainbows · 16/03/2021 19:16

I agree with protecting mental health and that of our families and friends.

Bytheloch · 16/03/2021 19:17

The ‘legal’ (don’t laugh) element of travel outside your Council area actually amends to ‘guidance’ from the 2nd April.
So, in short, follow the guidance until the 26th April if you’re still that way inclined, I certainly won’t be, but I’m sure Jason will be popping up in a new advert to telt us all to stay local and no sharing of the spoon to pass the creme eggs, or something equally as bonkers.

WouldBeGood · 16/03/2021 19:19

It’s just ridiculous.

Salons but no mobile hairdressers? Ludicrous

makingitupaswegoon · 16/03/2021 19:20

@Bytheloch
Oh that's interesting - so I can leave Edinburgh over Easter to go to the borders or east lothian for the sake of my mental health; ditto going to see vulnerable parents because they need some help / are depressed or whatever.

Bytheloch · 16/03/2021 19:25

@makingitupaswegoon you can do that now for mental health reasons. You won’t be stopped anyway, but you’re ‘allowed’ to travel for supporting.
If you want to wait until after the 2nd, yes, you’re ‘allowed’.

makingitupaswegoon · 16/03/2021 19:33

@Bytheloch
It helps to have something official to quote to my parents who generally are very nervous about breaking the rules and thought the neighbours would report them if I pitched up with DS and DH on a 'care visit'.

The worst thing about this whole thing has been some people not minding their own business or being so cautious / willing to obey the rules that the slightest hint of you committing a COVID crime has led to finger wagging and telling off

ResilienceWanker · 16/03/2021 19:35
@ResilienceWanker what did she say about hugging?
I can't quite remember now. It was when she was talking about moving beyond level 1 and zero to actual normality - and I think she was suggesting June time, but "by the summer" I think was what she said. With all the usual caveats. I'll believe it when we get there, frankly, but at least she is thinking about it. As there's an election coming and all.

Bytheloch · 16/03/2021 19:36

Ok, so I’m not an official, but I can say with confidence, you’re allowed to do that now for your mental health and as a support visit.

Anyone else want to verify that, as I’m obviously not supportive of the current restrictions on staying in council areas?

hilbil21 · 16/03/2021 19:41

@Bytheloch does going to England change from law to guidance then too by any chance?

WouldBeGood · 16/03/2021 19:42

There can’t be a law on that as we are all one country

user1487194234 · 16/03/2021 19:44

It could have been worse but no sign of normality, sadly

hilbil21 · 16/03/2021 19:44

@WouldBeGood I thought there was but I'm truly lost with it all after the past 12 months Hmm

cyclingbear · 16/03/2021 19:47

Thanks @ResilienceWanker

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 16/03/2021 19:51

@Bytheloch you have summed up how I feel perfectly. This is why I lost the rag last year with ScotGov. Yes I understand about opening up all at once and exponential growth etc but for fuck sake how is the only hairdresser that's allowed to cut my hair the one with a shop front. It's nonsensical bullshit.

The small print is a fucking farce if I'm being honest.

Bytheloch · 16/03/2021 19:54
@Bytheloch does going to England change from law to guidance then too by any chance?
This is why the use of ‘stay local’ today particularly irked me, it’s intended to deter people travelling to England. Local in this context means Scotland.
I'm still going down south, because that’s where my relatives are- we don’t all have families in our micro-level council area🙄 or even Scotland and it’s fine to travel over the unicorn border, as always. Accommodation in England is open from 12th April, which will enable folk from across England to travel at Easter to see their families.

hilbil21 · 16/03/2021 20:01

@Bytheloch I have the grand total of 0 close family in Scotland, my husband's family are here but not mine. Will pay the fine and get turned back from Gretna if it all goes wrong Grin

Littlemissweepy · 16/03/2021 20:06

It’s great to get some indicative dates and hope today. But I am still left wondering, who are we protecting with restrictions from June onwards? All most vulnerable (and some) will have had both doses of the vaccine, most adults will have had one dose. Young healthy adults and children are overwhelmingly likely to suffer a mild illness or be asymptomatic even if they only have “some” (which is actually loads) of protection from the first dose. And cases are bound to be very low in the community since the vaccine has been shown to reduce transmission.

Littlemissweepy · 16/03/2021 20:09

Obvs I know children aren’t being vaccinated but hopefully you get my drift!

Direwolfwrangler · 16/03/2021 20:47

The big things missing for me are:
Swimming
Soft play
Indoor sports / dancing for young children

Swimming and indoor dancing were both allowed under the ‘old’ Level 3. I’m assuming it’s an oversight and more detail is still to come on the levels.

tiredoftiers · 16/03/2021 21:14

When can children sing again???
When can soft plays reopen???
When will my child stop eating his lunch at his class table??

I'm very concerned that we won't ever see normal again, some of the rules are beyond controlling and lacking in logic and common sense.

Icannever · 16/03/2021 21:29

Why can we not collect a takeaway inside until the end of April. Fish and chip shop in anstruther has closed down because of this

anon444877 · 16/03/2021 21:45

I'm wondering what the justification is for not announcing travel within ruk in line with travel within Scotland on 26 April.

It will be travel within an area with the same or better vaccination rates as Scotland.

Perhaps about demonstrating political control and difference.
