Thanks

And yes sometime teir does look odd and I'm never sure what way its spelt. But I thought it was just me.

dancemom · 11/03/2021 19:16

No problem guys, I'm loving the threads, I check into it several times a day and appreciate the differing viewpoints.

Joining. Hoping for some news on Tuesday that is real news re opening things!

ResilienceWanker · 11/03/2021 19:24

Thanks dancemom!

And following from the last thread, I hope I'm just being an old misery guts on the timescale for normality returning. I hope it does soon, like many of you think it will. And yes, I don't doubt the demand for the businesses/ industries is there! I just hope those that have gone under are able to regroup and return, and we're not left with a giant monoculture of international companies who have had the resources to keep going through it all and can get more staff quickly to fill the gaps when it does come back. I've nothing against wetherspoons particularly, though they aren't my choice of boozer, but I hope independent local old man's pubs come back on the scene quickly.

Scottishskifun · 11/03/2021 19:25

Tuesday will be interesting as that's supposed to have the full road map isn't it?!

Or is the past end of April bit announcement at the end of April?!

I honestly loose track!
My LA has started going the other way with numbers but I also know that they have set up a centre in the North and the seafood processing plants are now regularly testing so more numbers are coming up!

ResilienceWanker · 11/03/2021 19:51

Yes, I think Tuesday is when they announce what will be in the tiers, and possibly provisional dates in the roadmap (though I thought we already had them, though maybe they'll firm up the provisionally a bit more...?) I don't think we'll be told which tiers we are all in til nearer the time, though. If they go down that regional route at all? There are rumours all Scotland will move together now, which is easier to control, but a real arse for those of you not in glasgow the central belt.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 11/03/2021 19:53

Just placemarking. Thanks @dancemom

fluffyugg · 11/03/2021 20:00

I thought when they said Scotland would move out of lockdown 'as one' it meant at that restrictions would start to be eased at the same time for the whole country but not necessarily in the same way? I think the Highlands and Islands could probably crack on and ease restrictions now but SG said the country would move out of lockdown together, or did I misunderstand it?!

polarisation · 11/03/2021 20:00

I don't think they can win with the tiers, is the problem. If everywhere but manky Glasgow goes to 1/2, there'll be a mass exodus. But keeping everyone locked up down is hugely unfair and costly.

Maybe it'll just come down to a fair and equal denominator like... what keeps SNP voters happiest.

polarisation · 11/03/2021 20:02

Exodus from Glasgow to the rest of Scotland, I mean!

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 11/03/2021 20:11

Especially when workplace testing is far more widespread and loads of people are vaccinated. 'We'll just go to Stirling for lunch and a wander because we know we don't have it anyway'. It does complicate matters.

MrsAmaretto · 11/03/2021 20:11

I really hope there is some good news on Tuesday. In Shetland 50% of our population has received their first dose of the vaccination and no cases in 4 weeks, but we are still living in Stage 3 !?!

If this is an indication of how they’ll manage the rest of Scotland, you’ve all got no hope!

AgentCooper · 11/03/2021 20:18

Checking in Brew

ResilienceWanker · 11/03/2021 20:32

Yes, I think any deviation over what different areas can do will obviously and understandably lead to people going to the area that has the most freedom! Scotland's not that big, really, and most people are in a very small area of it. But equally, as mrsamaretto says, it's just mean to keep areas with very very low levels restricted as much as the main drag in the central belt. There does seem to have been a division in policy between the islands and mainland so far and that will probably be kept (cos the commuter traffic for lunch in the Shetlands has to be a bit niche!) but still, Highland and Aberdeen have low numbers compared to further south, but Aberdeen is only a few hours drive from Glasgow...

MrsAmaretto · 11/03/2021 20:38

@ResilienceWanker :) Yes not many folk willing to brave a 12-14hour overnight ferry crossing. And at the moment your not allowed on the ferry to Scotland apart from essential reasons. Nor can I just get an inter-island ferry from my island to one of the other islands in Shetland!

I really hope she starts easing up restrictions on the islands.

Lockdownbear · 12/03/2021 00:32

I'm not anti-Shetland but can I ask how they are so far ahead in the vaccine program?

Does it have a high percentage of old people?

If Glasgow was 50% done and Shetland was only 35% the Islanders would be making noises about it.
But actually the risk of coming into contact with covid in densely populated areas like Glasgow is higher than in the Shetlands, so it would make sense to push the vaccine program really hard in Glasgow.

StarryEyeSurprise · 12/03/2021 06:48

Scotland as a whole - 40 per cent have had the vaccine so it's not that far ahead?

I agree Shetland shouid be experiencing a relaxation of rules. I hope you get it soon!

I saw that two school have already shut in East Ayrshire - and that's just with P1-3 back.

PoloMintPatty · 12/03/2021 07:02

Oh dear @StarryEyeSurprise this doesn't sound good.

Just looked it up and the article says they're shutting two Ayr schools "in a bid to stop the spread of Covid in the town"

Sounds more like a wider Ayr issue than something concentrated on the school or maybe that's where it's believed to have been spread from. Either way, not good.

Scottishskifun · 12/03/2021 07:19

@Lockdownbear typically the outer islands including Shetland are an older demographic as many young adults leave the Islands which will also be why the vaccination rate is so high.
Glasgow isn't doing too badly for vaccination rates compared with Edinburgh and Aberdeen which are both lowest but again demographic is being presented as the reason for this.....

MrsAmaretto · 12/03/2021 07:44

@Lockdownbear yes, high percentage of older people. Common with other islands and rural areas. I think Western Isles have the largest % of their population vaccinated.

Yet Jason Leitch has said on the radio last week it’s too soon to reduce our restrictions? Funnily enough the elderly population are now back out there at cafes, hairdressers and having the odd visitor in their house! It was gale force 7 the last couple of nights - there’s no garden visiting here.
