The tone stays low and the railing goes on

I think teachers have been totally shafted by the Scottish Government.

First the "algorithm" and then the "blended learning but we don't really mean blended learning and we never said blended learning and everyone back full time in August", then the dithering over 2021 exams, and then dithering over assessments, then about a week's notice to get the kids back in for 3 weeks until Easter....

The whole thing has been a complete shitshow. I called my children's school on Friday to ask whether I could buy several large boxes of posh biscuits or cakes for the staffroom / staff bases and was told that no, that wasn't allowed because of Covid. Hmm

WouldBeGood · 20/03/2021 17:41

@RaspberryCoulis that’s really ludicrous.

I agree teachers have been shafted and dumped on. There should have been a proper Government strategy. My dcs school has been amazing in the circumstances.

I’m having a Margarita now @Lidlfix as an irrelevant cocktail aside 😃

Lidlfix · 20/03/2021 18:00

I have had a basil gimlet and a Manhattan. This might explain any further posts I make as the mixology progresses. Blush

jabbathebutt · 20/03/2021 18:07

DH is feeling shite after his AZ jag yesterday. Headache and sore bones. Hopefully will pass by tomorrow though. Still better than Covid.

WouldBeGood · 20/03/2021 19:01

@Lidlfix 😃 cocktail exemption

Basil gimlet..?

WouldBeGood · 20/03/2021 19:02

@jabbathebutt hope he feels better soon. And that you get your jag soon

RaindropsSplashRainbows · 20/03/2021 19:06

Glad your DH is done jabba. It's coming for the rest of us.

ResilienceWanker · 20/03/2021 19:37

That sounds shite lidl - can't believe we're basically in the same situation a year on. Definitely agree teachers have been shafted throughout - the lack of notice and lack of respect for your time to change plans (again) as much as anything. You deserve all your cocktails and more! Gin

Hope he feels better tomorrow jabba Flowers

shouldistop · 20/03/2021 19:48

I've completely lost track of what we're allowed to do and when.
DH is meant to be going to a big outdoor event in July, maybe 1000 people or more. He seems to think it will definitely be going ahead.

fandabbydoozy · 20/03/2021 21:44

My DH is meant to be going on to an event abroad in September or October to Italy. It was already postponed from last year, I don't think it will take place this year either. But they won't do refunds, they just postpone it. DH has already paid. Its related to his work (has own business he does alongside main job).

WouldBeGood · 20/03/2021 22:25

I’m glad other people are planning for big events and abroad, I cannot wait!

That's the partying started here already. Neighbour has a massive 55 flag and they are all out the front drinking getting ready to go to Parkhead. I think today is going to be utter carnage.

anon444877 · 21/03/2021 10:50

Footie related partying?

WouldBeGood · 21/03/2021 10:56

If I were in charge I’d just have let the game go ahead with the fans in, policed as normal so much safer all round.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 21/03/2021 11:11

Yeah @anon444877

I agree @WouldBeGood if they where really concerned then have fans with a level of control. Cannot be arsed with the lectures from the podium tomorrow when they knew full bloody well this would happen. Meanwhile we are still in lockdown for well over a month.

jabbathebutt · 21/03/2021 11:27

They're saying on the news SD and masks here for years, which I guess we already knew but really sucks as I can't do either. How can people ever go back to the office full time then? (not that I want to)

WouldBeGood · 21/03/2021 11:39

@jabbathebutt there’s just no way that will keep going. No matter what the news says

It’s look more and more unlikely for holidays abroad this year isn’t it . I’m too scared to book anything again away .

anon444877 · 21/03/2021 12:37

I'm not giving up hope - October half term and Christmas might be possible. Lots of the small warm islands did well containing covid throughout the pandemic pre vaccine.

I don't think it's looking rosy for EU summer hols, but you never know, it's only coming to April and a huge vaccine focus for 3 months in the EU could swing things, a lot can change.

Peppafrig · 21/03/2021 13:17

Very true Anon still plenty of time for things to change

WouldBeGood · 21/03/2021 13:28

I’m thinking maybe Florida

A huge, male cheer went up across the road a wee while ago. I'm sorry to say it's making me judge, something I try hard to avoid doing. I'm trying to remember that four men cheering maybe sounds like a bigger group? Maybe they're watching from the garden? I have every sympathy people for people in difficult circumstances breaking the rules and for young people, who are mostly at very low risk of becoming seriously ill getting together, but football gatherings make me bitter now. The government might as well just come clean and say, 'Follow the rules unless you're a football supporter. If you're a football fan we're far too frightened of you to try to do anything about your entitled behaviour.'

Re travel abroad from May 17th: this is the thing that makes me most pessimistic about managing to get back to normal. The current vaccines are of doubtful efficacy against the South African variant, which I think is about 10% of cases in France now. The studies have been small and didn't include older adults so it's hard to judge, but they raise doubt over how protective from severe disease from the SA variant the AZ and Pfizer vaccines are. Unfortunately Sad

WouldBeGood · 21/03/2021 13:59

Once again I can’t get excited about people watching football. It’s natural to want to celebrate in a group at times. And the rules are stupid. Watching in a pub or at the ground would make much more sense.

OP posts:
mibbelucieachwell · 21/03/2021 14:18

Wouldbegood It must be much healthier to not get excited about people watching football.
