The tone stays low and the railing goes on

Fair enough! I'd assumed the 400,000 would be mainly second doses, to catch up on the million or so who had first doses in Dec/ Jan/ early Feb. Though maybe it was specified they'd be "new" people and I missed it.

They're really going to have to ramp up to get 400,000 a week. In the past week they'd done just over 200,000 first and second combined.

RaindropsSplashRainbows · 18/03/2021 12:27

I'm pretty sure I say one day (the one day I looked mind!) Where UK combined looked to be about 400,000.

I'm personally impatient but I do think it's overall been a success.

I just mistakenly posted on the tiers thread when I meant to pop it on here🙈 it’s definitely more for folk on here.
‘Cake & liberty’ started by the looks of it, a fellow railer! Event this Saturday, which you’re encouraged to take part in, in your own community. For anyone who wants to make their views known, without the need for protests or aggressive social media posts, this might be a gentle way of doing so... www.cakeandliberty.org

mibbelucieachwell · 18/03/2021 13:16

Wow. Well done to Ms CakeandLiberty

ResilienceWanker · 18/03/2021 13:28

Love that idea! Though round our way, anyone wearing party clothes smiling and handing out cake would be given a very wide berth. Kind of feel it would work better in a Yorkshire village where they have a Summer Fete and bunting and frequently win Britain in Bloom. Not so much suburban Scotland where everyone's too busy trying to avoid the dog shit and broken glass.

Bytheloch · 18/03/2021 13:33

I love the idea too- but it has to be a sunny day or you’re on a hiding to nothing.

I agree. Its all too airy fairy for me. You'd probably get lifted if you tried that round here.
UnderHisAye · 18/03/2021 14:18

It's very twee. Cupcakes and pillow banners and smiling at bright clothing? Sorry if the creator is on here, I'm sure it's a sweet idea but wildly ineffective.

WouldBeGood · 18/03/2021 14:20

I’m in for wine and liberty!

I think it’s great that normal people are protesting and not just the lizard people.

Judging by how busy places are just now and how much more relaxed, I do think people are voting with their feet.

Yes, I've noticed recently how much busier things seem. I think its a combination of the good weather and the news things will be less restricted soon

Yup, I've just messaged my friend and asked if she and her DH would be up for some casual law breaking over dinner at ours on the weekend? She is.

We're voting with our feet.

Bytheloch · 18/03/2021 16:04

Voting with your cutlery @RaspberryCoulis

Be sure to give Jason a wee call to check in which cutlery to ask your friend to BYO.

Oh yes, I’m all in. Even in the rain.
Bytheloch · 19/03/2021 14:02

Thoughts for the weekend- if our great leaders can dismiss rules or believe they don’t apply to them, then why would we listen about staying in our council areas?
Fill your boots folk, travel to see important people in your life this sunny weekend. Sit in their gardens or go for a lovely walk with company.
If it’s outside your local authority area, so be it. Just say you can’t remember the rules or that you don’t regard those making the rules as having any authority. You won’t be stopped anyway. Have a good weekend.

WouldBeGood · 19/03/2021 14:38

@Bytheloch I have a very nice weekend planned and am adhering to your rules 😂

The thing I feel worst about is lying to my mum. She doesn't really agree with the strict rules either but is eternally law abiding and if the police/government tell you not to do something, then you don't do it. However ridiculous.

So I phone her earlier and she asks what we're doing at the weekend - can't tell her that actually DS has arranged to play some Warhammer thing with a friend on Sunday, and we're having a meal with friends on Saturday night. Then she moans about how she can't get a hairdressers appointment until middle of May. I umm and ahh and make sympathetic noises, not mentioning I had mine chopped last week.

Had I told her, she would have gone into full on headmistress mode and given me a lecture.

shouldistop · 19/03/2021 19:56

We're going to be out of our council area tomorrow so ds can go pony riding. Honestly couldn't give 2 shites about that law. I never thought a year ago I'd be regularly breaking the law Grin
DH also had 2 friends in the garden earlier, so 3 different households

anon444877 · 19/03/2021 20:14

The cake and Liberty idea is cute - can I wonder around in a snazzy scarf proffering a pack of Jaffa cakes though? I've had enough delightful baking to last a lifetime the last year as there's been not much else to do!

Good for her.

RaspberryCoulis · 20/03/2021 11:00

A year ago today was the last day the kids had a normal day at school.

Since then, they have been in school for a bit of August, September, October minus the holidays, November, and a bit of December.

Utter, utter, shite.

Lockdownbear · 20/03/2021 11:59

In my head normal changed at the beginning of March. LO had an accident that cost him a week off nursery. Then SD came in about the 14th. Then the followup appointments etc.
Normal for me changed at beginning of March.

RaindropsSplashRainbows · 20/03/2021 12:00

I can't believe it's a year on and my house looks the same! You'd think we'd have sorted it out with nothing else to do..

RaindropsSplashRainbows · 20/03/2021 12:02

Our kids are older so all the old excuses of no time at home and young children requiring attention have gone up in smoke.

Lockdownbear · 20/03/2021 12:13

Grin My house is a riot, just stuff everywhere. I sort one corner and it's a mess before I've finished the next.
Stuff that needs to go just adds to the clutter.

Lidlfix · 20/03/2021 13:15

I still can't really let my self think about how awful this day last year was. Distraught pupils pleading to show us what they could really do, sobbing that they knew they hadn't worked hard enough. I'd had little sleep because my DDs had cried all night and nothing I said could console them. DDs or pupils.

I wrote a big spiel on social media as I wanted it to come up on my memories to help me get context when I whinged about work. Little did I think a year later... Sad
