The Sun was reporting yesterday that Scotland has 900,000 unused vaccine doses. Makes sense that JF is talking about 400k next week and would hope also the next 3/4 weeks after with ongoing supply top up. That gets us to 4m vaccinated and with 1m or so children that doesn't leave much of the 5m or so population left unvaccinated.

Wales is now starting to run ahead of England in opening up and pressure to open up faster in England. Case rates in England, even with all the extra school testing, are now below Scotland on a per head basis. It is way past time SG got on with things.

Feel much better for my rant.

Had a wee name change but don't bother often cos I can usually pick people out from their posting style so assume anyone who was paying attention could do the same for me. It does cut down on someone with an agenda doing back traces though.

Suntimesahead · 12/03/2021 17:09

Well if England’s opening up go to their plan, on the 12/4 all non essential retail, gyms, pools, hairdressers and outdoor drinking etc will open. They will then stop any further monetary aid for those businesses. Which in turn will stop aid for ours as I can’t see WM paying us to appease SG not doing the same given how our data is slightly better and vaccines on a par.
That is where we are getting the funds so when they dry up what else can SG do, but to follow.

Agree with above regarding vaccines in a month from now, our numbers should be around 4M done. All CEV &CV vaccinated, majority of the adult population as well. God only knows why we won’t be open, then there is the small matter of an election. SG will be aiming to show us “aren’t we great” vote for us rhetoric.

UnderHisAye · 12/03/2021 17:15

I think there are about 3.6 million adults in Scotland (ish) and we've vaccinated (first dose), what close to 1.9 million of them? So more than half of adults have had a first dose. It's incredible really.

Saying that I have severe vaccine FOMO now. I want my fricking vaccine!Grin

WouldBeGood · 12/03/2021 17:19

@Suntimesahead yes, I think they’ll have to get moving.

@UnderHisAye yes, I have the FOMO too; it’s funny cos I wasn’t that fussed and now I’m so impatient 😂

On a more positive note.
BBC reporting Prof Bauld on the 7 tonight saying "most things" back to "normal" by June or earlier. Guess she's the vanguard to move the dial and gauge reaction.

Did anyone see her interview?

WouldBeGood · 12/03/2021 18:48

Funerals in Scotland:

Max 20 people; masks and socially distant. No singing or chanting. No family taking a cord. No gathering afterwards. Bagpiper considered by special dispensation.

This is no way to treat people.

Prof bauld is normally very much doom and gloom.

yes, that's what we had for DBiL. The funeral company did their best and there was a slight cheat as we refused to have his widow stand by herself. They also had an outdoor gazebo thing where we "gathered" briefly afterwards for the people unable to come to the after do.

But it wasn't the best and so many people missed out being able to come including my own adult children and the other nieces and nephews. Folk from the village stood in the street to pay their respects, but that's not who my BiL was, he was kind and sociable and had lots of friends who should have been able to join us to tell tales and stories and raise their glasses.

That's something that can never be brought back. I really miss him, he was the loveliest man I have ever met.

WouldBeGood · 12/03/2021 19:04

It’s pretty inhumane in my book. Not seeking sympathy for me, but the old people and his widow 🤷🏻‍♀️

He wasn't old old, just 70. Had some symptoms but stayed away from the GP etc as he'd been told, until he collapsed and they found he had cancer. one doctor wasn't even going to biopsy or treat, just send him away to die. Other Dr did a biopsy and found a slow growing tumour. He started treatment, it didn't agree with him, Then they found that there was also an aggressive tumour and he died within about 3 and a half months.

He might have had longer if he'd been diagnosed sooner.

Wbeezer · 12/03/2021 19:13

Sorry about your BIL @WaxOnFeckOff.
Our news today is that i got a call from the vaccine folk today to make an appointment for DS3 to get the jab on Sunday! I was confused but the woman in the call centre basically said he's on a list from the GP of 16/17 year old and wouldn't elaborate ir discuss. He's perfectly healthy but w think he must be on the list because, after a bit of research, i found a mention of expanding the cat 6 list to people with mild to moderate learning difficulties, DS had ADHD which I'm surprised counts but i suppose some people with ADHD find it difficult to follow rules... (DS has been very good ronically). Anyway he was very excited to get the jab and i surprised myself by not feeling guilty about it, I feel he's due a bit of luck and good news, hes been finding distance learning very tough and is bored and lonely.

WouldBeGood · 12/03/2021 19:19

@WaxOnFeckOff that’s really rubbish.

@Wbeezer that is good news!

I'm surprised we're even allowed to cross the road so who the fuck knows.

If NS is talking about Scotland exiting lockdown in 1 level then we'll be going with wherever has the worst cases won't we? Sad
East Dunbartonshire only has 37 per 100k now and we've been under such strict rules for so long now.

runningpink · 13/03/2021 06:29

Parts of Italy going back into lockdown

Argyll and Bute have had 6 cases per 100000 in last 7 days. 6! And yet here we are still under house arrest lol.
shouldistop · 13/03/2021 06:58

@hilbil21 it's ridiculous isn't it. Do you think we'll all exit at a level 3 then given Glasgow & Stirling are still over the 100 cases?

hilbil21 · 13/03/2021 07:00

Goodness only knows they just do what they want don't they, without any rhyme or reason.... impossible to second guess!

WouldBeGood · 13/03/2021 08:21

I think Scotland should exit as one as it’s pretty small, but I’d just get back to normal everywhere as the hospitals are doing ok.

I’m cross today. Another weekend with nothing to do except eat and drink at home

If we are going to come out as one into normality I'm all for that Grin
goldengoldfish · 13/03/2021 08:32

The comments from Linda Bauld are in BBC article about back to normal by mid-June. But it also says:

"Prof Bauld warned international travel and mass gatherings were unlikely this summer but feels the data is heading in the right direction".

So....not normal then.

WouldBeGood · 13/03/2021 08:37

I think they’ve lost any idea of what normal is.
