NS said that the supply issue is a problem. That will slow things down.

Groovee · 07/03/2021 15:38
@Groovee, if you are in level 6 you would get the vaccine now?
My issue first fell was do I still qualify for group 6 or would I be classed as group 10. But when that calculator first came out it said February then it changed to April.

I've seen the dr 3 times since Feb 2020. Used to be there weekly. But since losing weight and getting surgery, I've become healthier so honestly didn't think I'd be classed as group 6 anymore.

There was a right mix of ages at my appointment. But it was said it's a very large group 6a (underlying) and 6b (Carers).

FifeQuine · 07/03/2021 15:39

Also median age? Median age in the Western Isles is 49.5, median age in Edinburgh is 35.6. So there are proportionately more elderly people in the Western Isles. Maybe the rates are a reflection of the demographics.

@ssd I know it’s easy for me to say, outpatient appointments I’ve been to, including a wee op, have been really safe and well organised.

It’s really difficult, I know. I used to have health anxiety so I do understand 💐

ssd · 07/03/2021 18:36

How did you get over it? Nothing seems to work for me. I go from zero to utter panic within a second when I find something unusual. Its like I loose all my sense and rationality. I dont do it with anything else in my life. Just my health and the thought if being ill and waiting for tests. Anxiety just takes over and it's like I go into a sort of coma of being scared. I literally lose my head.

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 07/03/2021 18:40

Yep, it’s awful. Mine was linked to other stuff and once I had therapy for that I was able to see my health worries were not really health worries but just a way of dealing with things, if that makes sense?

I can occasionally feel it creeping back, and that’s why I have to be really strict with myself. And why I’ve really researched all the Covid stuff but decided to be fairly relaxed about it as o know I could go crazy with it all!

ssd · 07/03/2021 18:50

I've a feeling my health anxiety is linked to something else that happened when mum died. I've tried cbt and therapy and I'm getting more therapy just now. I'd live to get rid of it ,its an utter blight on my life.

WouldBeGood · 07/03/2021 19:04

Stick with the therapy. I think you’re on the right track as you are seeing how it started. You can do it- I’m living proof 😊

Groovee · 07/03/2021 19:23

I stress at everything, the stress before my vaccine was ridiculous. I'm one of these people that you turn up and say give you arm and inject and I'd be like great. Because it doesn't give me time to think.

ssd · 07/03/2021 19:32

Yes, I hope it helps. But it's all over the phone and I find it hard to open up. We'll see.
I'm an over thinker too. Sigh..

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 07/03/2021 19:59

You’ll get there!

ssd · 07/03/2021 20:04

Oh God I hope so. It would be better than winning the lottery.

It’s very liberating. Hang in there.

Because all through the pandemic Nicola Sturgeon has gone out of her way to make sure whatever rules she made were not similar to UK rules. That be why can't book online, Purley because BoJo lets you book online in UK. Sturgeon has a real hatred for the UK
WouldBeGood · 07/03/2021 20:21

I do think a UK wide approach to this whole thing would have been much more sensible.

HalzTangz · 07/03/2021 20:22

@ssd

That's using the omni calculator. I'm in my 50s and work in a supermarket. I seen in the USA supermarkets and teachers are on the priority list. Really feel I've been fucked over.
They only started over 56 in UK today, what age are they currently doing in scotland
Sunbeam18 · 07/03/2021 21:07

Really getting fed up with the speed - my parnter is almost 63 with bad asthma and has had no appointment yet (though we know people in mid 40s with mild asthma who have had theirs). They seem to be going through this huge group alphabetically instead of by age... ?

In England 33.5% have had the first dose and 1.4% have had the second in Scotland 32.2% have had the first dose and 2.1% have had the second. So the difference is very small.
The limiting factor at the moment, according to the government, is supply. AZ is currently producing at a slower rate while they make process changes to increase production in the future. That accounts for the last couple of weeks where vaccination rates have dropped from the previous high level. Second doses are coming due which will also slow the rate at which first doses are administered.

WouldBeGood · 08/03/2021 08:49

I’ve just done the calculators for here and England, and I’d get mine over a month earlier in England they say. End of this month it would be, instead of mid May.

helpfulperson · 08/03/2021 09:47

I also think the order in scotland is slightly different so there may be more people ahead of you in the queue for a given age band. Interesting that we have done more second jags.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 08/03/2021 09:49

The online booking system does seem like a genuinely better way of doing things. You book a time that is convenient to you rather than get an assigned slot which you then have to go to the trouble of rebooking. All this rebooking (which becomes more likely as you move into the working age populations) will surely in itself cause unnecessary delays (and probably larger numbers of absentee appointments). As to why, I suspect that they just didn't really put any thought into it and used existing systems rather than brainstorming what the best solution was for extraordinary circumstances. More thought seems to have gone into the rollout elsewhere in the UK and the relevant systems set up from scratch to get through as quickly as possible, because time is of the essence. Unbelievably, it seems to have been something of an afterthought up here.

LetsSplashMummy · 08/03/2021 11:00

Once we get the appointment, we can change the booking on-line to a more convenient one (in the cities, anyway - they might be more strict on the islands). I think this is the best approach as it gives people who might not take the initiative a slot, but also allows flexibility to people who need it.

When people are left with the responsibility to book themselves at a convenient time, a lot more people fall through the cracks. Take ante-natal classes, in Scotland you are still allocated a time and your employer has to let you attend. In England, you book your own now and there are much higher rates of non-attendance, so giving people choice also gives them the responsibility.

It is counter-intuitive if you are the kind of person who would get on and book at the first chance you got - but there are a lot of people not like that. There are more people who would show up if they are told "this is your appointment, you need to make it." This is reflected in the uptake rates.
