Brunt On, Scotland is not making a mess of it. The whole of the UK is moving forward with vaccinations.

StarryEyeSurprise · 07/03/2021 06:53

@Brunt0n

At this rate I’ll have mine (32 and live in England) before my 62 year old primary school teacher mum gets hers in the Lothians. Infuriating.
Well that's just a load of bollocks, isn't it? I understand you're worried but your mum will be done very soon. We have four women at my school who are in their 60s and they've all been done.

@durgha

I'm in England and have received today an invitation to book my vaccination. As has husband. Vaccination centre l've been offered is over an hour's drive away. However, there is also a vaccination centre in the town we are living in, so we'll probably keep trying to book in on the local one, although local Covid FB page has a lot of posts saying that it can take a lot of time to manage this. Can't see any way that we can book in at the same time so would be easier if we waited for local bookings. (Unless, over the next few days we just can't get booked in) l'm 59. I think we're all moving closer to vaccination, wherever we are, but there will always be folk we know who got there before us. Smile
In our local area GPs are telling us not to wait for a local vaccine as this may never happen.

My local area are focusing purely on first doses for over 65s, CEV & CV, and then making sure those groups then get their second doses.

Other groups are not a priority for them and they are strongly encouraging the rest of us to use the larger main hubs.

@StarryEyeSurprise ever heard of hyperbole? It is a fact that the Lothians vaccine roll out is currently very slow

I didn’t say they weren’t moving ahead. Some areas aren’t moving as fast as others. As is clearly shown by the data. Not sure what is going on in the Lothians

Fair enough 👌

I've calculated I would get the vaccine almost 2 months earlier for my age in England. I mean that's shite. Why are we so far behind? We cant say it's the spread of the population, England is spread far and wide too. Something has gone wrong here and no ones mentioning it.

The update posted by my GP surgery last week said they’d done the over 65’s (or they’ve had invites) and are now on the clinically vulnerable / unpaid careers group which is large so will take a few weeks and then it’ll be the 60+ age group. So slow!! I saw a stat that 40% of adults in the U.K. have had one dose but Edinburgh and glasgow were less than 25%!
There does seem to be a theme from people who’ve had one that the centres are very quiet / practically empty so I wonder if there’s supply issues rather than facility limits.

ssd · 07/03/2021 09:05

That's using the omni calculator.
I'm in my 50s and work in a supermarket. I seen in the USA supermarkets and teachers are on the priority list.
Really feel I've been fucked over.

I would also love to know what's happening in Edinburgh re vaccination. You would think in cities it would be easier to arrange with all the venues and population nearby. Omni vaccine calculator has me waiting an extra 6 weeks in Scotland for vaccine compared to England, and that's not even factoring in Edinburgh's slowness.

ProvisionallyAnxious · 07/03/2021 09:35

I do worry that once they hit the younger population the lack of ability to book your own time is going become a big problem in terms of uptake. In general there will be a lot more people in the younger age groups with less flexibility e.g. jobs where you can't just leave for your randomly-generated vaccine appointment (and yes I know that will be the case for older age groups too! - but maybe a big enough problem with younger groups to dent uptake...).

Groovee · 07/03/2021 09:39

I think Edinburgh stats will rise in the next few weeks seeing as the new venues are open.

Someone was whinging locally that it wasn't very busy at the venue I went to. When I went it was a steady flow of people checking in and being seen and moving on the leaving. If I turned up to a huge queue round the building I'm not sure I would have felt safe. I might not have stayed either.

Feeling safe while there helped calm me down over it all.

That calculator had me not getting my vaccine until the end of April yet I had it this week.

That's encouraging, Groovee.

Sootess · 07/03/2021 10:17

Is our uptake not bit higher in Scotland, which will obviously slow down getting to younger groups?
I read on sky news this morning 8/10 65-69 year olds have taken the vaccine in England. That's only 80%.
Public tableau dashboard looks like 96% of this age group been vaccinated in Scotland.

ssd · 07/03/2021 10:19

@Groovee, if you are in level 6 you would get the vaccine now?

That's not a consideration I'd thought of, but its obviously good news if it's true, which it sounds very likely.

I am really interested in this, the site linked to (thanks to @Bumply) has our upper age % take up as reassuringly high. Do we know if that's actual vaccines taken or offered?

1,743,869 people have received the first dose in Scotland as of 6 March. 17,179,491 have received the first dose in England by last Sunday.

Even if the uptake is greater in each age group in Scotland, they are definitely still zipping through them a hell of a lot faster in England. There's only around 5.5 million people living in the whole of Scotland!

AmelieTaylor · 07/03/2021 10:52

@ssd

It's so unfair and its really showing us up. I've got health anxiety and have a few hospital appointments coming up and I wont go until I've had the vaccine. I'm just too worried about outpatient appointments. I'm desperate for the vaccine.
Don't forget to allow for the three weeks afterwards to build up your immunity.

I've read that the number of cases in the three weeks following a vax has been higher - whether that's attitude (I've had it now so can do as I please) or low defences due to your body already working hard to build immunity) is unclear- a bit of both I expect! But I personally would avoid routine appointments until after the 3 weeks

I hope you get yours soon!

The population of Scotland is 5.5 million, England is 55 million so the fraction vaccinated in Scotland is about 30%, for England it is about 30% as well, so I'm not sure what the perceived problem is. In order to vaccinate at the same absolute rate as England we would have to get more than our fair share of vaccines and have proportionately a much higher number of vaccinators. The reason that the groups are behind in Scotland must be the higher take-up?

OldRailer · 07/03/2021 11:25

I think there may be a stricter order being followed here?

Hence me hearing of more younger with vulnerabilities being called here but people not getting done down the age ranges in the same way as England. Plus the system there of online booking will speed up those keener to get done. Whereas the more easygoing will be waiting on a letter.

Here it's more anxiety inducing for the individual.

SoupDragon · 07/03/2021 11:32

I'm in my 50s in England and have not been invited to have the vaccine yet so it's not everywhere!

Ifyourefeelingsinister · 07/03/2021 11:39

Soup, if you're 56 and over and in England, you can now book online apparently.

It's interesting to hear that maybe vaccine uptake is higher in Scotland. I think part of my frustration was that my particular part of Scotland seemed to be really lagging in vaccinations, and wondering why this would be - other areas, particularly the Western Isles seem to be doing really well.
