A fair proportion of positive test are in the under 14s already - I've not particularly tracked that but it does seem higher than before.

However, these don't tend to end in hospitalisation for covid related issued etc so more questions as to why we are using positive tests as a measure?

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/03/2021 15:42

@WaxOnFeckOff not seen the stats, can you link?

If it's proportion of positives vs population then I'd expect it to be rising.

Lockdownbear · 02/03/2021 15:43

Where are they picking it up from?

My other thought is if the over 70s and a portion of over 60s are vaccinated. Then the majority of the positive tests have to be in the 50s and under.

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/03/2021 15:51

That's basically it - we've vaccinated 1.5m roughly, getting towards 30% of the total population.

I'd need to check Scotland but I recall the UK was about 20% under 18. So we've actually vaccinated somewhere north of 35% of the adult population

The proportion of positives in the non vaccinated groups will rise, and kids are the only age group with no vaccinated people

WaxOnFeckOff · 02/03/2021 15:54

It's just travelling tabby Stats - i can only screen shot that on my phone so give me a minute...

WaxOnFeckOff · 02/03/2021 15:59

Actually you are better just playing with the graph yourself Stats. If you do the "per 1m population" in total, the zero to 14 is the smallest column but that grows a bit for last 7 days per 1m and again higher using todays figures per 1m population - unless I'm doing something wrong?

yes, but then if we are facing restrictions based on those positive tests which we can do very little about in terms of vaccinations and we want the schools open, then we are going to be a bit stuck.
Dinnafashyersel · 02/03/2021 16:39

Thanks for the update stats. So pleased for my P4. Commiserations to all the S1-S6 having to cope with masks. Hopefully short term till we get some confidence that vaccines are working and being rolled out ASAP.

jabbathebutt · 02/03/2021 17:00

any tips for avoiding maskne as DD has it bad Sad

Lidlfix · 02/03/2021 17:23

Maskne I have found the ones with a valve as less moisture gets trapped. I was able to teach in one all day so that was a lot of talking.

jabbathebutt · 02/03/2021 17:41

I feel bad for friend's DD who is deaf like me and need to lipread. She's in a mainstream secondary. I fucking hate masks.

WouldBeGood · 02/03/2021 18:00

I have a cotton mask from the Radical Tea Towel company that sits pleasingly off my face so I can breathe. I had some funny turns with other ones but this is much better. Plus a bit of politics 😃

I didn't realise how much I lip read myself and my hearing is fine. Hopefully not too much longer of this pish!
Coquohvan · 02/03/2021 18:44

That must be so hard for her @jabbathebutt.

jabbathebutt · 02/03/2021 18:48

I'm in a miserable mood anyway. After a great first week in new job, today I got told I was going about things the wrong way.

It was delivered like a shit sandwich really. I have so many great ideas, but I need to focus on xyz specifically (when the job advert was fucking vague and made it sound a much broader role), but I've to keep up the good work.

Its not hard but different from what I was sold it seems.

Well its only temporary and its still better than the last place.

Just feeling a bit deflated today.

WouldBeGood · 02/03/2021 19:09

@jabbathebutt oh that does sound a bad day. It must be really hard starting a new job just now. I’m sure you’ll get it sorted

I've no idea how deaf people are coping with masks, not being able to lip read.

I don't mean mean to be funny but lip reading is a really impressive skill.

WaxOnFeckOff · 02/03/2021 19:27

Travelling tabby uk side showing that Scotland has proportionally the highest case rate and death rate in the UK today - to be fair, there isn't much in it.

jabbathebutt · 02/03/2021 19:43

Its not easy @Lockdownbear especially if you have a beard, an accent or large teeth.

So I try to avoid talking to those people rather than say "go to a dentist" or 'speak like the Queen'.

Either way, I'm being rude!

shouldistop · 02/03/2021 19:54

I find I struggle to hear people with masks, I don't think I have any hearing loss so it shows how much of communication is facial expressions and lip reading.
I have every sympathy for you jabba, it must be horrible and your poor friends daughter expected to learn in that environment.

rookiemere · 02/03/2021 20:01

@jabbathebutt try not to take it personally at the job. It's always hard when you're new and particularly so under the circumstances we find ourselves in.

WaxOnFeckOff · 02/03/2021 20:45

It's still early days jabba. the distance doesn't help people to get properly settled in either. I can appreciate the frustration. Also remember that it's always easier to get a new job when you are in one so keep at it and also keep looking to see what else is out there. Flowers

shouldistop · 02/03/2021 21:29

Is there to be another update next week?

WouldBeGood · 02/03/2021 21:32

I think someone mentioned weekly updates?
