Looks like railing is still needed.

Here is the judgment feee zone to do it.

I will never take swimming for granted again. I used to dread Saturday mornings, back to back lessons for the kids meant up and out with a million bags and snacks, driving at break-neck speed because DH was always convinced we were late, taking turns sitting in the sweltering heat watching your child and 8 kids you don't know jumping in off the side 14 times, racing to the changing village to fight for the family changing rooms, eyeing up the other mums (how are they so well turned out at that time of day?), dressing the freezing kids before the screaming became unbearable and trying to pretend soggy clothes are totally fine and they're being over dramatic about it. They loved it so, so much and they've been a whole year with only 2 brief swims now. They used to ask all the time but they've stopped asking now.

I'm pregnant and would love nothing more than to float in a pool just now.

Fucks sake. I need to know when the pools are reopening.

anon444877 · 24/02/2021 18:01

I can't mention swimming as my dd just gets too upset - and the restricted places available through the booking means you have to get them as soon as they come out.

jabbathebutt · 24/02/2021 18:08

sorry didn't realise there was a new thread.

Shitty day. DD all upset and fed up with lockdown learning.

ResilienceWanker · 24/02/2021 18:09

Well, the last thread filled up quickly. Who'd have though there would be such a desire for railing yesterday?!

I think my main issue is that the "strategic framework" actually tells us nothing about what we are aiming for and how we are going to get there. What it seems to take 90odd pages to say is, well, we'll relax restrictions in this order until you're back in proper tier 4, then we'll remove the stay at home order, and relax a few more restrictions, and then when 6 tests are met we'll have different parts of the country in different tiers which will get looked at frequently. And then there will be fewer and fewer restrictions. But it doesn't tell us:

A) when this will be... OK, I appreciate there is uncertainty, but even the 15th March hasn't been confirmed, and the hypothetical 5th April and 26th April dates aren't really worth the paper they're written on. They aren't even "aims" as such, just, "it could happen no earlier than this date, because that's 3 weeks after the previous review".

B) what we are aiming for - zero? Maximum suppression? Living with the virus endemic and controlled by vaccine boosters? Why is this the best decision? What will it mean for our lives day to day? Are the geographic tiers we will move into the old tiers with tier 0 as the best we can hope for? Cos I'm not really on board with that, thanks. Or are there now new tiers that have actual normality as an aim. And what will the restrictions in each of them be? (we know the restrictions will change, but not what to). When will we know?

C) how its going to happen - the new WHO thresholds were mooted, but is that what we're going to be using to establish which of the unknown tiers we'll be put in? Or are there going to be further tweaks to, for example, allow for vaccinations reducing hospitalisations faster than they reduce cases. Again, when will we know?

For something that was trailed as our route out of the pandemic there's really not that much route planning evident. Other than "we will get out of the pandemic". Hmm

WTAF have they been doing since December?

TonightMatthew · 24/02/2021 18:10

Yep it's rubbish, in November/December you could book swimming at our local leisure centres by phoning 7 days in advance. I phoned them all individually trying to get a place and managed to get one session, one time. They were doing their best and it was great to get into the water but the kids just wanted to go back again immediately and I could never get another slot.

Definitely looking forward to pools reopening.

anon444877 · 24/02/2021 18:12

I tried phoning after two failed online attempts and was told I couldn't book on the phone at ours. Pre covid we've never failed to get in.

ResilienceWanker · 24/02/2021 18:15

Totally yes to pools. We had to escape into England to use the pool in September... And we never managed our council pool because they didn't allow plague infested children unless they wanted to swim in lanes rather than have any actual fun. Lessons started back for about 5 weeks maybe before they closed again. With maximal inconvenience installed for families to jump through all the hoops. But, yes, "we care so much about your health and want you to be fit". Angry

That’s what an logs me so much is the lack of well-being options. Seems so short sighted.

Yes. Especially given the nature of the virus.

I think they’ve been taken aback by the massive backlash in the papers and on Twitter. Which is good!

Oh crap. Really sorry to hear this jabba. And sorry your IT has been playing up. That makes everything so much worse. It's so difficult for the kids too... Just seems never ending, especially for young secondary who don't even know if they'll be back full time. So unfair. Sad Have some virtual calorie free Wine and Cake
WouldBeGood · 24/02/2021 18:26

@jabbathebutt sorry you and your dc had a bad day. Must be hard combining that with a new job.

Nicola has been too busy answering questions on the corruption scandal to be on much Covid stuff today.

I still have no idea when s1-3 go back 🤷🏻‍♀️

Checking in

Jellycatspyjamas · 24/02/2021 18:42

Just popping in - got my vaccine appointment through today, which surprised me, I thought I’d be much further down the list.

jabbathebutt · 24/02/2021 18:43

Thank you. She's been emailing her teachers behind our back to say she "doesn't feel" like doing any work today. We are furious with her. Nothing to do with ability. She's just fed up with it all but she could have spoken to us and now I feel guilty for being so wrapped up in new job and trusting DD to be able to get on with it herself. Thankfully the teachers contacted DH to let him know because its not like DD to behave like that. Hopefully a good talking to will kick her ass into gear and we told her to try to spread her learning out across the day and take some more breaks.

WaxOnFeckOff · 24/02/2021 18:45

Speaking of swimming pools, the one in Alloa is set to close and people are wondering whether they've just not to bother teaching kids to swim in clackmannan any more? It's not like it's near the water or anything so sure it will be fine - not to mention the fact that swimming is clearly of no good for the health or mental wellbeing of people.

I bet the (at least) 500k pissed up the wall on the covid hotel quarantine scheme would have made no difference if applied to keeping leisure facilities open.

Does my head in. I truly hope they get fucked up the arse in May.

anon444877 · 24/02/2021 18:46

jabba my elder one's been edgy and more reluctant since her sister went back, they can see the finish line but they're not over it. It'll get better

WaxOnFeckOff · 24/02/2021 18:46

I think they’ve been taken aback by the massive backlash in the papers and on Twitter. Which is good!

Well yes and no.... maybe it's better we have as many folk still angry in May as we can.

WouldBeGood · 24/02/2021 18:51

@WaxOnFeckOff I’m hoping that for may too. Even if we can just have a more mixed parliament.

Coming over here to scream and rail.

I'm sick fed up of the whole fucking lot of it. Lies, obfuscstion, shifting goalposts, misuse of stats, corruption. Just aaargh

WouldBeGood · 24/02/2021 18:54

I’m really disgusted by all this stuff with the Crown Office

Thanks! I'm properly crabbit with the whole lot today. Probably just as well doorknocking is banned for the election

WaxOnFeckOff · 24/02/2021 19:02

I don't know how you are managing to keep civil @StatisticallyChallenged, I've given up.
