Looks like railing is still needed.

Here is the judgment feee zone to do it.

Think your right@rookiemere the stumbling block is 2m distancing for teenagers. Don't know how keen SG is to give that up!
The exam years in at moment are in tiny numbers in class and well spaced out.

rookiemere · 01/03/2021 16:12

@Sootess I think the most likely outcome is get cases as low as possible by keeping everything closed over Easter holidays, then reluctantly let them all go back after Easter with no distancing guidelines.

Parents have been very patient but the optics of opening up non essential retail when schools aren't fully open would be a step too far for most of us to stomach.

I think they're also waiting to see what happens in English schools, if it's all out carnage there with increased infection rates, then they've got more justification for maintaining a glacially slow return.

Personally I'd have gone for an approach somewhere between the two, but nobody voted for me
Grin.

grin.

nearly 3 quarters of the voting population didn't vote for the SNP either and around 50% didn't vote at all, so maybe it's the general public that have a mandate to govern Grin

Agree they are leaving England to fight the school battle first.

On a more positive note the BBC carrying yet another study showing teachers are not at elevated risk (carried out in England in November).

Also more positive to hear Freeman talking in terms of commemorating the pandemic rather than still being in the midst of it (I only read the highlights so perhaps she wasn't quite that positive (?)).

On reading the room twitter is full of jokes and cynicism about the Brazil variant - thinking of the Welsh villages with the best names for their very own variant etc. Also looking at the BBC sounds like the variant is being used to justify current border restrictions and an article about chaos at Heathrow. Feels like there is already quite a lot of push back over International restrictions and I don't think they can loosen then before lifting quite a bit domestically.

Sootess · 01/03/2021 16:51

And I suppose delaying full opening of secondary schools until after Easter buys them more time to get all the teachers with underlying health conditions and those over 50 vaccinated.
And the parents. A fair few upper secondary pupils have parents the wrong side of 50 (my own included!)

WouldBeGood · 01/03/2021 16:57

I’m ancient but my child needs to go back. He told me today there was no point in doing schoolwork and that he was just going to die in this house. Of age, he meant. This is not good.

Obviously I cheered him up with my usual positive attitude to all this and we railed together. But there is absolutely no justification for keeping them out of school for so long

Mr G has suffered an allergic reaction. However the drain is doing its job. Consultant plans to sign him off for another 6 weeks. I think that says how poorly he is 😭.

WouldBeGood · 01/03/2021 17:18

Oh, lord, @Groovee that’s not good. What a time you’re having

I'm so sorry to hear that grovee, 6 weeks! Your poor dh.

Lockdownbear · 01/03/2021 18:16

Poor MrG, hope he rests up and gets better soon.

Sootess I never thought about that logic. But it does make sense.

Dinnafashyersel · 01/03/2021 18:34

Chin up Groovee. Sounds like you have the right consultant on the case. Football and Rylan and co it is then. DD1 had to do phased return to school over a couple of months after they sorted her out. No alcohol or contact sports for a year to protect her liver - not the best for a black belt with a bit of pent up anger management from 6 months of being in and out of hospital.

Still better than the time I had to put up with DH watching horror movies and sci-fi all day for 6 months r&r.

Groovee · 01/03/2021 19:31

Have a phone call. Mr G has been suffering from an abscess in his liver. A gall stone has perforated his gall bladder. He's being treated for sepsis too. Honestly it's only March the first.

WouldBeGood · 01/03/2021 19:33

Oh @Groovee that’s shite. How are you? Are you allowed to see him?

Oh no, poor Mr GrooveeThanks

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 01/03/2021 22:45

Groovee Flowers
Have you been able to speak to him?
Glad they're on the case, he's really not been well, has he?

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/03/2021 22:53

Both of you have been through the mill! He must have been feeling so rotten, hopefully the drugs kick in and he starts to feel better quickly and has a nice recuperation at home. And you never know, by the time he is well we might have a bit more freedoms for him to enjoy to build his strength up.

dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 01/03/2021 23:02

Flowers and a Brew for you Groovee x

mibbelucieachwell · 01/03/2021 23:24

Poor Mr Groovee Thanks

frasersmummy · 02/03/2021 05:12

Omg... Ive just seen this on the BBC website..

I am genuinely shocked by this announcement

www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-scotland-56237471

We are literally never getting out of lockdown in the central belt..

Nipoleonthenoncommital · 02/03/2021 07:12

Jesus suffering fuck.

I don't think my husband will ever get back to work. I wonder how many other small businesses will be royally screwed.

StatisticallyChallenged · 02/03/2021 07:16

I think this is what we discussed previously about the WHO indicators
