Lockdownbear · 28/02/2021 19:15

Hope he is better soon Groove.

Groovee · 28/02/2021 19:17

I'm doing fine. I'll be glad to get into work tomorrow. I can't stop eating here.

WouldBeGood · 28/02/2021 19:20

@Groovee I know the feeling! And I don’t have work for ages. Aargh!

This new Brazillian variant is going to be an excuse to keep us locked down further isn't it?

OldRailer · 01/03/2021 09:51

There will be new variants. It's expected from what I've gleaned from listening to virologists.

If I'm not working on vaccines do I really need to be kept informed via the media?

(Answer: Of course not.)

anon444877 · 01/03/2021 09:53

Ah the scare-mongering media - the vaccine won't work stories cycled with we can't roll it out fast enough and today it's new variant panic.

They've been relentlessly unhelpful to people's mh through out.

Lockdownbear · 01/03/2021 10:01

The variants will happen.
Did I not read somewhere that Oxford were already working on a vaccine for the variants?

I do think it could end up that people get annual boosters along with the flu jag.

OldRailer · 01/03/2021 10:18

Yes the vaccine developers are on the case, apparently.

frasersmummy · 01/03/2021 13:29

surely with numbers tumbling the way they are right now its time for NS to speed up her review of restrictions.. Its obvious the worst is over ..even on the worldometer coronavirus chart you can see the worst is over, cases and deaths are declining world wide . Its time to get the kids back to school and retail open.
Or am I missing something ?

Lockdownbear · 01/03/2021 13:50

Frasersmummy you'd think so.

WouldBeGood · 01/03/2021 13:52

@frasersmummy you’re spot on.

I actually think most people are now in agreement with this, given the views I’ve heard from people I’ve bumped into recently

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 01/03/2021 13:53

I have not actually heard anyone in real life supporting continuing strict measures or school closures now I come to think of it.

Off topic, Prince Philip has been moved to another hospital, just me over thinking or is that unusual for the Royals?

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 01/03/2021 13:55

There are a good few on the main board in favour of continued restrictions. There are also a lot of people on fbook who seen keen to stay locked down forever. 🤔

Cocacola12 · 01/03/2021 13:57

We’ve just bit the bullet and booked a week in the Lake District start of July. We planned to holiday in the UK anyway so fingers crossed it goes ahead. My husband is more optimistic than me...
I think I’m going to find it hard to enjoy this summer even if restrictions are loosened for fear of them being brought in next Winter. Honestly the thought of this again next Winter brings me out in a cold sweat.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 01/03/2021 14:01

I'm jealous of those of you with optimistic husbands. Mine won't let me book anything 'until we know what's happening'. By then there won't be anything left!
He also won't let me spend £1500 on three nights in a hot tub lodge on the Ayrshire coast. Grin

I had to stop using Facebook, so many on there wanting schools closed and lockdown forever.
WouldBeGood · 01/03/2021 14:12

Yes. That’s what made me just stop and think there about the actual real life people I’ve spoken to recently. A different vibe from the crazed corona boards.

And it’s been bustling, again with a whole different feel around here.

Mine is a bit like that but he loves the Lakes so was happy for me too book something that was low deposit and that we could get a refund from etc but it did take pointing that out and that availability would decrease and prices increase as we got closer. It's a gamble and if foreign travel opens up, there might be a glut of cancelled uk accommodation available for last minuters.
Lockdownbear · 01/03/2021 14:25

Even if loads of people cancel UK accommodation to go abroad its unlikely prices will drop that much.

DH was chatting to someone last October who couldn't get a caravan anywhere for the October week.

WouldBeGood · 01/03/2021 15:02

I think if I were her I’d free us a good bit now to distract from the shitshow in Parliament. I gave too much time on my hands to reflect on and read about their badness, but if they free us I’ll never be in or studying it.

I was thinking that last week. If she even made a couple of announcements this week it may destruct people. I think she made a mistake talking about it at the briefing as it seems to have brought it to k more people's attention.
Lockdownbear · 01/03/2021 15:46

I think she'll announce all schools going back. Just to divert attention. I think it's hard to justify them staying closed and for the hospitality sector to remain closed at Easter / spring break.

rookiemere · 01/03/2021 15:54

@Lockdownbear I really hope there will be some decent movement on schools reopening.

I'm heartened by the recent tumbling of numbers, as the real sticking point is if they continue to insist on 2 mt distancing, then some years aka S1-S3 will simply not get back. I'm sure they have some number in their mind -
