sorry to hear that grovee anyone would be at their limit after all the things that have happened, good idea to ring the GP for both of you.

WouldBeGood · 25/02/2021 09:20

@Lockdownbear no! He’s twelve and nearly six feet now

Hope Mr Groove is ok.
I've good a hoodie with "I hate Everyone" on it. I wear it for my once a week team meetings.

DD and I had a good day yesterday (day off) we went to Home Bargains and played some Switch then we all went out a walk after dinner and it was actually nice.

Today I am busy with work and She is moaning about her school work and I lost my shit and shouted at her that everything is crap, there is nothing we can do about it and to just get on with it. Blush

You'll noo be getting away with sending him to school in shortGrin

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/02/2021 10:52

Oh those teen boy growth spurts are brutal on the wallet. I had two at the same time and aged only a year apart but also different shapes so hard to pass things down. Plus DS2 hit puberty earlier.

Whilst being tall is not a problem in itself, it's much more expensive.

I found that their feet stopped growing about age 13 though so don't buy next size up too far in advance.

WouldBeGood · 25/02/2021 11:13

@WaxOnFeckOff I really hope so.. his feet are size 11 😂

Wishing you all the best @Groovee been a hard few weeks for you all Flowers

What a coincidence @Max my DD put me onto that site, get all my grazy patterned gym leggings from there.

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/02/2021 11:22

Yes, mine ended up (hopefully as they are now 20 and 19) at 6'3 and 6'2 and bit and have size 11 feet but started high school in size 9/10. DH is 6'2 with size 12 feet so I expected that they would be at least the same size. I'm only a size 6 and i'm nearly 5'10 so quite small feet really.

On a brighter note, I've just spotted one of our garden crows with a bit of cracker, taking a bit of a nibble and then because it was on the stones of the driveway rather than the grass, it covered it with two bits of leaf and finished off with a couple of stones. Normally they bury extra food in the grass. Clever birds.

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/02/2021 11:25

I'm full on sweary clothes today. Cheers me up

rookiemere · 25/02/2021 11:26

Yes I'm glad I didn't invest too heavily in DS uniform except some rather expensive new sports tops that should last him for a year or so anyway.

I'm hoping the school take a pragmatic view on uniform- first term there was no changing allowed so sports stuff all day - as I'm not going to take kindly to being told to buy new uniform for one term where they may not be in full time anyway.

littlbrowndog · 25/02/2021 11:49

It’s one of biggest costs shoes

Crows are so clever.

We used to have a magpie come in our window to eat up scraps on plates as we are a bit lazy at washing up

Dinnafashyersel · 25/02/2021 12:08

Wax Chris Packham on BBC has a new series on animal Einsteins - all about how smart they really are. DD3 (age 9) loved it. The tenement opposite has a resident seagull who preens on the chimney pot opposite my bedroom every morning. I have named him and say hello when we see him out and about. Convinced he views us as his subjects.

DD1 says they can't design seagull proof bins where she is because the average seagull is smarter than the average student.

I didn't bother buying new school uniform and haven't wavered from sending DD3 in joggers and polo shirt. Were a lot of side eyes in August but by December most parents saw my thinking what with open windows and outdoor PE come rain or shine. Helps that our school is pretty relaxed re uniform. Actually struggle to understand why joggers and polo shirts wouldn't be a satisfactory uniform permanently - lots of the private schools have them as an alternative for active days out already.

littlbrowndog · 25/02/2021 12:15

Oh I saw that dinna

The starlings. 👏👏

Hope mr grovvee gets well soon. Such a worry

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/02/2021 12:30

Thanks for the suggestion folks and fingers crossed for poor Mr Groovee, definitely been through the mill lately and for you too Groovee.

DH is following the birds, he loves his crows and we have a pair of magpies too who are very bold. One of the crows doesn't even bother to move when he opens the kitchen window now - he just stays waiting for whatever bounty DH throws out. The other is smaller and more cautious. I'll get DH onto that programme too.

A blackburn flew into the middle of the scrum today and unconcernedly had a bath in a big puddle.

WouldBeGood · 25/02/2021 12:34

I like the bird stories.

I’m trying to attract birds as I’m on a new estate and they’re quite few and far between. I’ve mainly attracted crows, magpies and a giant pigeon whiz pretty much resident.

Occasionally a robin, a blackbird and a thrush venture in.

I’ve planted trees to try to encourage them all

Nipoleonthenoncommital · 25/02/2021 12:42

Sorry to hear about Mr G, hope he's faring better very soon.

It took a few years for birds on our estate but planting trees definitely helped.

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/02/2021 12:47

We have some birds on the estate but not many - it is new though and they've just planted trees all over the place, plus there's building work still going on. We're on the edge of the countryside so I think we'll get a lot more soon.

I don't really want to risk putting up bird feeders in the back garden because my cats get out there (it's cat proofed) and although they're soft house cats they could well catch something. Maybe out front though, I bet DD would love to watch them.

Dinnafashyersel · 25/02/2021 12:50

Just catching up. Best wishes to Mr Groovee. Definitely press the GP and make sure they join the dots with his previous illness. Learnt the hard way that sometimes they don't.

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/02/2021 12:50

We have hundreds of house sparrows living under the overhang of the roof tiles. Former new build estate (be about 18 years now). We get some tits and robins and occasionally a big group of starlings will pass through. DH doesn't like the seagulls and the pigeons so he waits until they are not around to feed the crows. Our magpies have a baby every year, they are cute.

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/02/2021 12:53

you can get feeders that you attach to the windows. That would be a good option to keep cats away and the wee one would love it. A pigeon once dived in and caught it's leg in one of mine (i had to go and rescue it) so I wouldn't get that design, but lots of nice options.
Dinnafashyersel · 25/02/2021 12:55

We have loads of song birds because we have lots of mature trees sheltered by a stone wall with shrubbery underneath - too difficult for the magpies etc to swoop down on them.

The seagull also helps because he has been known to hunt the pigeons, magpies and even crows. Pretty savage watching him chase a pigeon into your living room window and then dismember its writhing body on the patio but it does keep the robin, blackbirds, thrushes and finches safe.

WouldBeGood · 25/02/2021 13:01

@Dinnafashyersel that’s a dark turn 😂😂

RSPB have lovely window bird feeds and other kinds - one of my favourite things to do with the DC. I probably enjoy it more than they do :).

You can craft bird feeders too, loads of ideas on YouTube but the squirrels quickly rip open the plastic bottoms I've found!

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/02/2021 13:04

Thanks @WaxOnFeckOff. I think our front garden would work as our TV/playroom where she spends most of her time overlooks it. We do have a hedge but it's ridiculously sparse just now, hoping it perks up in spring. It might need replanted though, both it and our turf went in before the first lockdown and then basically didn't get watered or maintained during it. Course dealing with snagging issues is all on hold cos of covid...

Yeah yeah, first world problems I can't get my new house snags fixed. Still nippy though.
