@fioreun except that's already failed and shown to have failed. England/Scotland travel ban was introduced in November Scotland still has the Kent variety in 2/3 of tests so after cross border travel was stopped for the majority. So it doesn't work at all in stopping new variants from England!
Actually it did work as no where in Scotland saw anywhere near the 1,000+ cases per population which we saw the other side of the border in late Dec/ Jan.

fioreun · 19/02/2021 20:03

The Kent variety was first ID in September. The travel ban was introduced in November. By then it was prevalent in Scotland.

I'd say that increases the argument for a travel ban. Which I would rather we didn't have to have. But here we are.

kurtrussellsbeard · 19/02/2021 20:05

It's all just complete common sense surely?

Bytheloch · 19/02/2021 20:06
@ShowmetheSnowdrops see to be honest I'm not sure why you're listening to her anyway? She's the first minister of a country you don't live in. I think you're over invested.
I live in the U.K. and yet I’m not allowed to follow a set of guidelines for the U.K.

(I’ll happily take a vaccine though, obtained through a U.K. procurement process)

kurtrussellsbeard · 19/02/2021 20:10

@Bytheloch you can do what you like.

ShowmetheSnowdrops · 19/02/2021 20:11

kurtrussellsbeard
You’re a perfect example of the inward looking, SNP supporting Scot.

I’ll repeat.
I am Scottish, my family are Scottish and live in Scotland, I have property in Scotland ( and no, I don’t rent it out or Airbnb it ) and I have close ties with my former university.

I am not ‘over invested.’
I have listened to 3 or 4 FM daily briefings over the course of a year.
I am interested in what’s happening in Scotland because it directly affects my family and me.

I absolutely loathe the rhetoric that if someone doesn’t live in Scotland, they have no right to an opinion, unless of course it’s to spout SNP views.
At best, telling someone who doesn’t live in Scotland that they’re ‘over invested’ is downright unfriendly and at worst ... what would you call it ?

BBCONEANDTWO · 19/02/2021 20:14
@BBCONEANDTWO that link says no processions. Don't know if there's another page maybe?
Definitely on the 8th May - 1K people.

Just in tiers with it all now ....
kurtrussellsbeard · 19/02/2021 20:17

You are completely happy with your decision to leave Scotland and you cannot see yourself returning was what your original post said.

Now we've got a wee drip feed that you've got property here and strong ties to your university - whatever that means.

You also said you resented that you should feel beholden to the SNP.

If I felt like that I wouldn't be going out of my way to watch the thing that irritates me so much.

I'm not an SNP supporter. I will vote for the SNP because I want independence.

kurtrussellsbeard · 19/02/2021 20:20

@BBCONEANDTWO I didn't click next page 🙈

That's not the SNP though.

LizzieMacQueen · 19/02/2021 20:20

@BBCONEANDTWO

Absolutely you're right. Was a page or two through it. Here's the screenshot.

StarryEyeSurprise · 19/02/2021 20:21

That's not the SNP!Hmm

Bytheloch · 19/02/2021 20:22

They can march on the 8th May for independence, because many will have already had their vaccine- you know the one obtained by a U.K. procurement process. The one distributed via U.K. logistics network that wasn’t stopped at a border.

Scottishskifun · 19/02/2021 20:22

Given leading virologists, scientists and the scientific community have said this is here to stay and needs to be thought of as flu that is managed each year with adjustments to vaccinations how long is it proposed to keep a travel ban in place between England and Scotland??? There is zero information about how long families are separated for and once it hits 6 months for me sorry that's too long!
Indefinitely separate families???!

As said before this is Pandora box it's now out there is no going back yes it needs to be controlled to stop NHS being overwhelmed but I'm not going to accept an indefinite travel ban of seeing family if they aren't on their death bed!

LizzieMacQueen · 19/02/2021 20:22

That's after the May election? So presume it's for the victory dance/call for independence.

Just in tiers with it all now ....
kurtrussellsbeard · 19/02/2021 20:23

@Bytheloch yes because countries independent from the UK didn't manage to get any vaccines at all! If we had been independent we would have had nothing Hmm

kurtrussellsbeard · 19/02/2021 20:24

@LizzieMacQueen I'm presuming it has absolutely zero chance of going ahead and is some kind of error tbh

kurtrussellsbeard · 19/02/2021 20:24

@Scottishskifun until it's properly under control.

I agree with your analysis. The SNP supporters don't seem to care about the lack of inward investment into Scotland because of the constant promotion of Indyref2. They also don't care that higher rate taxpayers will want out of Scotland if it ever were to come to pass; nor that lots of people have family all over the UK. People in England have Scottish neighbours, friends, and doctors, too. Why would an English/Welsh/NI medic/teacher move to Scotland and buy a house and pay the higher LBBT knowing that there could be another divisive referendum to live through?
Scottishskifun · 19/02/2021 20:26
@Bytheloch yes because countries independent from the UK didn't manage to get any vaccines at all! If we had been independent we would have had nothing Hmm
I wouldn't underestimate how far behind Europe is on vaccinations and the power of the UK vaccination department on procurement and roll out with the NHS and department of health. My friend in Republic of Ireland is happy that her 93 year old grandmother has her vaccination appointment set for the first week of March........
@Bytheloch yes because countries independent from the UK didn't manage to get any vaccines at all! If we had been independent we would have had nothing Hmm
You need taxes to pay for vaccines though...

BBCONEANDTWO · 19/02/2021 20:28

It's the Scottish Independence movement (not the SNP) but it must have been approved - why was it approved for 1K people to gather during this pandemic when we can't even go for a coffee. The Scottish Government must know about this. Let's be serious - this procession IS related to the SNP I don't reckon Tories, Labour, Lib Dems or Green Party would be having such a procession.

What gets me is the 'do as I say not as I do' attitude at the moment.

Scottishskifun · 19/02/2021 20:29
@Scottishskifun until it's properly under control.
Which is what exactly? As said where my parents live rates are lower than the majority of Scotland, test rate below 5% in England so surely that's under control already for where they live? Clackmannanshire in comparison is over 7% last time I checked not under control but where I live the test positive rate is 2.5%........

fioreun · 19/02/2021 20:30

The vaccine programme has been an amazing success, all credit to the NHS. We have excellent sequencing facilities. We need to sort the travel loopholes, and the track and trace, and get numbers down enough so that we avoid another massive overwhelming of the NHS.

This will all help to move to a point where we can open up the economy, and restart safe travel to see family and friends.

kurtrussellsbeard · 19/02/2021 20:30

@BBCONEANDTWO is that not a council page you shared? Its not until May. There is not a chance in hell that there will a procession for 10,000 people in May.
