I have a friend I talk to all the time, but I've realised that's all we do as I haven't seen her in person for 2.5 years, even before lockdown. work and life gets in the way really. She's been a great support when I've felt down, and I've tried to cheer her up too. but is it really a friendship if we haven't seen each other that long? and there's another friend but I now feel that's one sided. So....I don't really have anyone else and don't really know how to fix that. I'll be glad when lockdown is lifted for the social side anyway and I can at least get back to my gym but when will gyms reopen? There could be a temporary reopening then another lockdown, whether national or regional. I'm just not convinced by it all tbh. Trying to cheer myself up by playing some tunes on spotify. Anyone got any good news to share?

NotAnActualSheep · 21/02/2021 17:56

So sorry to read you're all feeling down jabba youcannot and chasingamy. I agree that lots of us are struggling with the seemingly endless nature of this and it is exacerbating other worries we have. And, yes, all our usual avenues for cheering ourselves up or doing something new or whatever are stuffed. So we are totally left with hot chocolate Brew and cake Cake. Not great on the health front...

Still, new job sounds great jabba. I really hope it goes OK for you tomorrow Flowers

I'm kind of doing 16 8 wouldbegood with general lent-y abstinence. Though as it's lent, Sundays don't count so I've promised myself some of DSs rather yummy looking chocolate courgette cake with dinner tonight Blush. Not sure this is going to be entirely successful on the weight loss front. Haven't tried 16 8 before, and thought it would be horrible, but it's actually OK so far. I thought I'd miss breakfast as I got into a habit of eating it while browsing the Internet before doing anything else. But I'm still doing that with a black coffee and it gives me the same "waking up time". DH thinks I'm silly though.

Of course it is still a friendship if you're still supporting each other Flowers It's hard not being able to see people though, I know what you mean. I'm really bad at keeping up with friends I've moved away from, especially as I don't use FB etc any more and I do feel bad for not making more of an effort.

Good news? We could all (as in all adults, including the under 50s) have been given the first dose of the vaccine by the end of July?! That is pretty amazing if they can pull that off. And could mean there's a little bit of chance for summer, or at least late summer, still on the cards?

jabbathebutt · 21/02/2021 18:06

The sceptic in me read that as being offered, rather than getting it.

So maybe end of August for the first jab and end of the year for both jabs? So SD and face masks could stay until then. We'd need to see what the road map says.

I worry the roadmap won't tell us very much other than, this date for this, this date for that, then we'll see how it goes.

Very pessimistic today, I know!

I'm avoiding the other thread as its being taken over by SNP lovers and I'm pissed off enough to get involved in that shit today.

ShowmetheSnowdrops · 21/02/2021 18:08

I’ve found it to be a very intense week but I am holding out hope that at some point over the summer we can safely get a break away from home.

I know it’s unlikely to be abroad but vaccinations are going so well across the UK.

The irony is that many of you guys are keen to get to the Lake District or Cornwall and I’m desperate to get on a CalMac ferry!
Hope everyone has a better week.

Ah balls. I was getting excited... but I suppose you're right. Having an appointment isn't actually the same as having had it. Second jabs I'm less bothered by. I just see them as a way of increasing the time you are protected for (and a little bit more initial protection) but I know that may change if we end up with annual boosters and so on.

Though I think you're more optimistic about the roadmap than I am! I'm not expecting many dates at all ... More an order for things to happen in "when it is safe to do so" , and some cheery infographics telling us how great it is that we're all being kept safe by not being able to do anything. I also reckon they'll shift or squish together some of the old tiers so tier 4 becomes lockdown, tier 3 is the old tier 4, maybe with shops, tier 2 allows outdoor but not indoor eating, and so on. So basically the old one, but without anything concrete to pin on the SG when they change their minds.

anon444877 · 21/02/2021 18:28

Much as I'd love Northumberland, (I've given up on Italy, too far fetched as a 2021 dream), I'd love to go anywhere at all, plenty of Scottish places but can't see point of booking yet.

Got Sunday paper for the first time in ages and notice travel section has 'book for summer 2022' or Christmas.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 21/02/2021 18:28

Thanks for good wishes everyone. I agree that it's the sheer relentlessness of restrictions coupled with not having my usual stress relief avenues that has done this. Not being able to sit in my Mum's house and just talk through stuff for 4/5 months is really what's pushed me over the edge I think. If I'd been able to talk through things earlier it wouldn't have festered the way it has. DH tries his best but gets annoyed and frustrated that it's not fixed yet, and I'm not going to open up about personal things over bloody zoom! I'm also really wishing I'd taken advantage of the relative freedom we had last summer much more than I did - I never imagined we'd all be locked up again.

I'm really hoping that once Spring comes and (fingers crossed) we can go round for a socially distanced cuppa again I'll start to feel better again.

Chasingamy · 21/02/2021 18:29

I know the pools and gyms aren’t open for letting off steam and getting fit so the only treat available seems to be eating Grin our local retail park car park was in chaos due to the endless McDonald’s queue that had spilled over into the main roads.

NotAnActualSheep · 21/02/2021 18:30

Grin I'm sure we can have a mutual smuggling session at some point. We'll get you over the border and onto your ferry covered in a hessian sack decorated with heather, if you help us out under cover of darkness, with our kiss me kwik hats and sunglasses.
WouldBeGood · 21/02/2021 18:31

Toxic inspiration is a great phrase 😂

I need to hide the other thread, sadly.

@NotAnActualSheep my main aim with the attempt at 16:8 is to avoid drinking wine of an evening.. I find it too easy to reach for when I’m bored at home and DS is shut in his lair. And just to try to cut down on eating time. So fewer calories. We shall see!

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 21/02/2021 18:34

After a childhood of miserable ferry trips to the bloody islands I have vowed never to set foot on a ferry ever again.

OP posts:
anon444877 · 21/02/2021 18:38

I might do 16:8 - I've done intermittent fasting and 5/2 before and they've been good. It's day 5 of my booze free lent, today has been the hardest! So nearly cracked. I have a feeling I'm exchanging wine calories for cake calories though.

jabbathebutt · 21/02/2021 18:38

I saw on another thread about universities going back where someone pointed out that UK students might have had their first jab by September but what about all the international students coming in?

I hadn't thought about that. So could we see another student halls outbreak situation in September? Or will they be told not to come? or will teaching remain online?

Many of the older universities rely heavily on international students.

ShowmetheSnowdrops · 21/02/2021 18:43

I was always desperate to be allowed to eat my CalMac chips in the cafeteria or even the bar but my family was always sitting next to the funnel no matter how bloody awful the weather was.

If I’d known then how much I’d love to have the wind and rain exfoliate the top 2 layers off my face, I wouldn’t have believed it.

WouldBeGood · 21/02/2021 18:52

@ShowmetheSnowdrops my family are in the cafeteria while I quietly sat alone on the rainswept freezing deck trying to avoid puking 😂

OP posts:
littlbrowndog · 21/02/2021 19:00

I have never been on a cal Mac ferry.

Maybe this year especially if they have chips

I hid other thread as well. Can’t be arsed with the political stuff

Dinnafashyersel · 21/02/2021 19:02

Another out on deck whatever the weather type here with my chips and cheese. Continuous eating is the only thing which stops me puking on ferries even when in charge of making sure the toddler doesn't go overboard for a distraction.

July for all adults ties in with AZ having ramped up supply (per EU dispute machinations shortages not an issue by then) and at current rate of 0.5m per day for UK that is 60m dose slots from now till end June so plenty even including 2nd dose roll out. So actually think likely will be able to offer ahead of schedule if anything.

I would expect International students will also be offered at point of entry to UK.

shouldistop · 21/02/2021 19:12

@anon444877 I'm desperate to lose a stone or 2. 16:8 worked quite well for me before but obviously had to stop when I was pregnant and can't fast when breastfeeding.
From tomorrow I'm going to start a healthy diet and exercise regime, I don't want to limit my calories too much but I need to stop eating chocolate/cake!

jabbathebutt · 21/02/2021 19:18

maybe we should start a new thread called "scotsnet slimming" Grin

OldRailer · 21/02/2021 19:18

yep There should be loads of vaccine, which is the good news thread hold onto.

OldRailer · 21/02/2021 19:19

good news that I hold on to!

littlbrowndog · 21/02/2021 19:19

Yeah. We getting these vaccinations done. 🙌🏽

anon444877 · 21/02/2021 19:20

I've reverted to toddler-eating here - ooooh it's been two hours without a snack, must eat. With the p1 back next week I'll endeavour to change my lockdown ways.

If you are bf, it's so hard to diet should as the tiredness and random surges in hunger are tricky. Perhaps we should exchange nice snack ideas? Those popped chips and sweet rice cakes are good.

I won't recommend an apple slice with peanut butter on top - has anyone ever eaten that?

OldRailer · 21/02/2021 19:20

I find eating better comes easier as the weather warms up and days get longer.
