@OldRailer

Oh wrong "You" there. I meant a general do people need to learn. So sorry the way that read NotAn actual sheep.Blush

Do we need to teach our kids to just listen with acceptance especially in certain emotionally subject areas. Was kind of where that sentence meant to land.🤦

Oh no - I wasn't offended at all and I didn't assume it was aimed at me specifically Smile It made me laugh. I definitely do a lot of listening and nodding and hmmhmming in real life. If I disagree I'll generally say something rather neutral re it being something that a lot of people disagree on for reason x and y and try to move the conversation away from the point of contention or if they insist on carrying on I become utterly obnoxious in trying to demonstrate how I Am Right Keep the railing for here.

@jabbathebutt

I do actually have a mindfulness calendar that someone bought me but its a load of shite tbh

"if you see someone without a smile, give them yours"

aye, that'll kill the pandemic stone dead

Yuk! That's the new age version of someone shouting "cheer up luv, it might never happen" out of a white van isn't it?
OldRailer · 20/02/2021 12:46

Mindfulness calendar would be meeting my bin.

I said "cheer up love" last night to someone annoying me on TV because.. lockdown..I am going mad, clearly.

It was as if I'd morphed into Sid James, which made me laugh at myself.😄 So job done!

littlbrowndog · 20/02/2021 15:13

Jeez Mumsnet so slow today. Hardly useable

OldRailer · 20/02/2021 15:13

It's getting me annoyed again..

NotAnActualSheep · 20/02/2021 16:08

Oh good. I thought it was just me! (my connection to MN that is. I am really slow and hardly usable too, but that wasn't what I meant)

WaxOnFeckOff · 20/02/2021 16:12

yep, issues most of the day, seems slightly better on the PC at the moment but the app is still goosed.

I've had to resort to messaging with DS away at Uni. I bet he wishes I would bog off! :o

rookiemere · 20/02/2021 16:20

Hurrah can now get mumsnet on my internet but not the app.

I get the red mist when anyone mentions DCs and resilience in the same sentence. As if all of the shite of the last 11 months could somehow be erased by being a super bouncy jolly parent. “Now remember children, this could all be so much worse - imagine how it must have been during the war”

My personal resilience is mostly through excessive running, my online FB running group and St Johns Wort. I have little to no lessons of encouragement to pass to my surly teen.

frasersmummy · 20/02/2021 16:28

So now our beloved leader has decided that while her party can be on TV every day answering questions

Other parties are not allowed to campaign in the run up to the election

I am seriously worried about what the snp are getting away with

www.scotsman.com/news/opinion/letters/readers-letters-snp-cant-be-allowed-to-rush-us-into-election-3140736

OldRailer · 20/02/2021 16:32

And the education report gets published weeks after the election.

Slick work.

rookiemere · 20/02/2021 16:44

@frasersmummy little shocks me, but that has.

Right so it’s fine and dandy to have an election in May requiring people to congregate in public places together, but not for parties to send flyers through the letter box. That’s actually such bald partisanship. Oh well I’m not sure anyone decides who to vote from flyers anyway.

Groovee · 20/02/2021 17:01

My app stopped working completely. On the mobile site.

Anyway local restaurant does a chippy on a Friday night here... was so good!

Guilt Free Railing 2
OldRailer · 20/02/2021 17:05

Ooh chippy envy here.

OldRailer · 20/02/2021 17:07

I don't like our local. My fave is over one of those borders we have now😄.

OldRailer · 20/02/2021 17:07

I can only see the section as a viral soup disaster waiting to happen.

OldRailer · 20/02/2021 17:08

Election not section!

I now consider "kids are resilient" to be a helpful flag for indicating raging twattishness.

Apart from anything, for all schools talk the talk about resilience IME most don't really walk the walk. School near me was teaching kids that "resilience is learning to acknowledge what you love in life and aiming for that."

rookiemere · 20/02/2021 17:18

Yeah I’ve been a bit suspicious of resilience since the year the company I worked for at the time introduced it as one of our personal objectives.

Also the year that this company moved location and we all lost our jobs unless we wanted to live in Leeds - I didn’t.

Jellycatspyjamas · 20/02/2021 17:22

What the hell psychobabble bullshit self help book did they get that from. I’d hope anyone working with kids professionally would have a reasonable understanding of what resilience is and how we foster that in kids - and it’s not through a “reach for the stars” type narrative. Idiots.

Well you'd hope, but I'm not convinced from what I've seen. DD's old school used to talk about it too but they generally had an approach of never letting kids fail - set their own objectives, never push, rarely told anything was incorrect. How do you learn to pick yourself up if you are never allowed to fall down?
MaxNormal · 20/02/2021 17:45

I can't bloody tell if anyone is without a smile or not as they've all got masks clamped to their faces.

Urk. Do you have a link to where that has been said other than the readers letter frasersmummy? Not saying she didn't, but I haven't seen it anywhere else and I'd have thought flyering/ mailshots would be one of the main ways to communicate policies/ candidates track records given hustings and whatever will be off the cards. OK, door knocking and those street stalls are probably out, but not sure anyone has ever doorknocked me to persuade me to vote for them!

This is an interesting article on what could be expected No next booths in sight... (or was that the other thread we were talking about them?) but a lot of perspex.

frasersmummy · 20/02/2021 18:01

Oh @NotAnActualSheep sorry.. I didn't read that properly.. I thought it was an actual article..

Doh! Sorry.. I am not usually guilty of spreading opinion as fact.. Honest!!

Oh goodness.... Well, you obviously hadn't really been working on your resilience hard enough then... Wink

Also I now consider "kids are resilient" to be a helpful flag for indicating raging twattishness. 100% this! Some are, some aren't, some are about some things, some are sometimes but not others... Just like adults really. It seems to be used in the same breath as "well, my kids are loving homeschooling and have come on leaps and bounds". Well, good for you and them... Angry
