I remember by the time I had dc2 I realised that getting out to a group for adult company was so important - you're doing so well should

rookiemere · 19/02/2021 11:58

I've been having a lot of baths recently, it feels like about the only non fattening, non costly extravagance left to me.

I've found a Morrison's bubble bath that smells of Pina Colada and reminds me of happy times in Tenerife and I light up my Poundland Pink Fizz candle that DS gave me for Christmas last year.

Once it gets a bit warmer we'll get the inflatable hot tub out again, but it is a bit pricey to run it.

shouldistop · 19/02/2021 11:59

@NotAnActualSheep that's what I'm planning later. Will give baby ds his bedtime feed at 7/7.30, ds1 will be in bed about 7. Then I'm running myself a deep, hot bath with a couple of cold beers. Thankfully the baby only gets up for one feed overnight so tonight dh can give him a bottle and I'll sleep in the spare room.
Already looking forward to it.

shouldistop · 19/02/2021 12:02

Ds1 is being so sweet. Keeps saying "mummy, you know what you are? You're beautiful" and "mummy, can I give you something?" Then cuddling me. I am really so lucky.
Right, lunch now!

annabelindajane · 19/02/2021 12:03

@ssd

I'm desperate for a new book, I've read everything available here... I know I should get a kindle but it's too fancy pants for me, I just want an old fashioned book Hope the library opens soon
Try your local library online , you should be able to order books which you can then collect
WaxOnFeckOff · 19/02/2021 12:07

explored the tactical voting thing and you can get an idea for Holyrood but I'm not sure if it just the same results as you input per your constituency and the result for me is the same.

I'm in there every night myself @NotAnActualSheep standing joke between DH and I that I'm going in there to scream for a bit. As advocated in the ready steady baby boom!

titsbumfannythelot · 19/02/2021 12:07

Book not boom

Sootess · 19/02/2021 12:09

@shouldistop do you get out for "walk" with other mums? I see a group of 4 mums (obviously walking 2 and 2) with baby in sling and toddler in push chair going past my house every week. I'm fairly sure they're heading to park so kids can play and adults can have socially distanced catch up on the benches while babies are sleeping. I've no doubt it's keeping them sane!! Do what you have to do. It must be awful having a baby in a pandemic. I think you're doing amazingly Thanks

shouldistop · 19/02/2021 12:12

@Sootess thanks. We get to the park on dry days and meet other people there. It's chucked it down for a couple of days now though.

Going to start walking with another mum I know once kids are back at nursery on Monday so that will be nice. Can't switch off enough for a proper chat when in charge of 4yo too but the baby will just sleep when out.

Awwww. Bless him! (I got "mummy, can you move your wobbly tummy out of the way of my book" this morning - he was lying on me reading - which is a bit too insulting to be sweet) Just keep looking forward to that bath and the full night's sleep!

Ooooh. I remember that! That was the baby equivalent of Parent Club, but with some actually useful advice.
Callisto1 · 19/02/2021 13:26

Lots of sympathy stop, it's really hard with a baby. Hopefully next week will give you a bit of a breather.
I found that meeting the odd parent for a walk and chat was really good. And the kids would just muck about so I'd get a bit of space. Mine are a couple of years older though so easier.

NearWildHeaven · 19/02/2021 13:29

@ssd do you have a library card?

Im in S Lanarkshire and our library card gives us access to 3 different apps (which is a bit of a pain!) but allows us to do something with physical books (not sure if you can order and pickup as pp said) on one app. BorrowBox is the other with access to e books and audio books. And PressReader is the third which lets you read books and magazines.

Chasingamy · 19/02/2021 14:21

Sorry to hear this @shouldistop I’m finding it hard with one I can’t imagine with two! Superhero. Another thing I’ve felt really sad about is that friendships seem to have diminished the longer this has gone on. Have a recently turned two year old and on mat leave had got to know a couple of groups of Mums. But we’ve had a year of really not seeing each other (between lockdown and working different days) and it’s all just completely drifted. I guess we’ve now been apart for as long as I knew them. Actually the same with non Mum friends as just have very little to say and sometimes can’t even think of a reason to message. Must be so much worse having mat leave with all this going on though just stuck in on the grim days

Chasingamy · 19/02/2021 14:22

@ssd I didn’t have a library card but managed to register for membership and BorrowBox access so hopefully that works for you

WouldBeGood · 19/02/2021 14:32

@ssd ask on your local Facebook page if there’s a book swap or giveaway anywhere?

I’ve just cleared out hundreds and would have loved to give them to someone.

NS said the other day that cases were at the same level they were at beginning of December didn't she? East Dunbartonshire had 122 per 100k at the start of December, we now have 55 per 100k....

The average area in Scotland now has 70 per 100k and it was definitely over 100 per 100k at the start of December.

BBC figures. Am I missing something?

shouldistop · 19/02/2021 15:03

@ssd what kind of books do you like? I might be able to dig you something out and post it to your nearest collect+ point. In normal times I would have left old books in work kitchen.

jabbathebutt · 19/02/2021 15:50

a vaccine will make zero difference to me if face masks and social distancing still the norm.

On more positive news, I got a bit of a cash windfall today. a few thousand. Can't say how I came by it (not the lottery) but it well cheered me up!

ssd · 19/02/2021 15:57

Thanks everyone. The click and collect service isnt open at the library right now and I dont fancy audio books, I like the old fashioned kind. Thanks for the offer @shouldistop, I might take you up on that soon, my friend has a couple of books for me so I'll see how I get on with those.

What a bloody horrible day today, the weather is awful. It makes all this 100% worse...Sad

MaxNormal · 19/02/2021 15:59

I always find the the tail end of winter by far the worst time of year. When the snows go it looks even worse, doesn't it? Everything is just tones of grey and brown and looks lifeless and depleted.

I think I'll weep with joy when I see green on the trees this year.

noname55 · 19/02/2021 16:03

The weather forecast is as depressing as the news these days. Reactivated my social media to see people with kids going back to school and nursery gloating. Deactivated again. Happy for them but still heartbroken for my P4 and everyone else not able to return.

anon444877 · 19/02/2021 16:07

Yes mud with a side of rain, not my favourite. We've not been out to trudge about today.

Congrats jabba hope you can spend it on something nice.
