@anon444877

And heard on the news Boris and other countries are having a meeting to handover excess vaccine doses to poorer countries - that's more useful than a zero covid strategy.
Yay for the vaccine working, and Yay for passing it around so everyone who needs it can have it! Definitely cause for hope on this wet and pissy morning.
Sootess · 19/02/2021 09:53

https://news.sky.com/story/amp/covid-19-pfizer-vaccine-is-up-to-85-effective-after-first-dose-new-israeli-study-finds-12222164
Another good news story. This is all looking really promising Smile

Sootess · 19/02/2021 10:05

And based on all this good news we fully expect to be leaving Scotland to visit family this summer.

DH is Welsh and hasn't seen family (except FIL who flew up once) in over a year. We both have siblings, and niece, nephew in London, and I have sibling overseas ( who knows when I'll see them again!)
Now my parents are gone all of our immediate family is outside Scotland.

There are thousands of people in Scotland in our situation. Very cruel to say we can't see family for another year when we know numbers will be very low by summer and vulnerable all vaccinated.

WouldBeGood · 19/02/2021 10:20

It’s nice to have good news!

In other good news, been on my treadmill this morning continuing my campaign to try to avoid death by obesity and unfitness. All set for a weekend with another cook at home meal 😂

I am a bit worried about the idea of a vaccination passport, especially if it were extended to more daily life than just travel... I'm pregnant and it's not recommended I have the vaccine, so it feels discriminatory on those grounds (and to be fair I think that currently the rhetoric in the UK is anti-vaccine passports... I think!)

rookiemere · 19/02/2021 10:41

@WouldBeGood well done for making use of your treadmill.
I've been taking advantage of the fact that I will no longer slip and fall to my death to recommence with outdoor trotting. It would probably be more effective as a defattener if I wasn't heading with a friend at lunchtime to the outdoor bacon roll stand that the golf club has erected. But I'm just a sucker for any business that has managed to adapt themselves in the current climate, plus they make a mighty fine bacon roll with actual Heinz ketchup.

Laugh for the day, this from the Scotsman:

Responding to a request for comment, an SNP source said: “Alex Salmond's supporters have got themselves in toe with some very distasteful individuals."

In toe... 😂😂

Now either it was a verbal quote and standards in journalism have slipped, or it was a quote from a written source and they lifted and dropped it, would expect a wee (sic) after toe though...

Callisto1 · 19/02/2021 10:56

A vaccine passport makes no sense. You're not immune to Covid just less likely to get ill and transmit. With the caveat that with some strains you have minimal protection. And why stop with Covid? Are we going to have to show our vaccination histories before we go anywhere?
Also it'll just incentivise fake vaccine passports and people trying to que jump to be able to travel.

Sootess · 19/02/2021 11:06

I can't see us going down the line of vaccination passports. As you say @Callisto1 they would be too easy to fake!
However won't stop some countries with low cases asking for proof of vaccination ( fake or otherwise!) for entry to their country, particularly if we know vaccinated people are less like to transmit virus.

shouldistop · 19/02/2021 11:09

Urghhh today is so bad. The weather has been shite for the past couple of days. Baby ds just cried for almost an hour straight, over tired and I missed his cues due to playing with ds1. DH had to abandon work to take baby out in the pram as I was at my wits end. If we could just get out somewhere it would be so much easier.
At least ds1 is back at nursery on Monday but then I'm still stuck at home 24/7 with a baby which isn't much fun.

WaxOnFeckOff · 19/02/2021 11:12

Vaccination passports would discriminate against people who can't have the vaccine for whatever reason, I'm presuming that under 16s would be exempt but what if they turned 16 on holiday? Can't get the vaccine before you leave and then can't get back in because you are now of an age to need it?

Plus, everyone needing written conformation from a GP that they've had it, too easy to fake etc.

shouldistop · 19/02/2021 11:15

Yeah I don't think there will be vaccine passports. No one has been provided with proof they've had it so far, the nhs don't have the capacity to go back through records to make sure someone had a vaccination to provide retrospect proof , it's just not going to happen.

WouldBeGood · 19/02/2021 11:19

Thanks @rookiemere! Did 20 minutes really slowly so an going to try to up the pace then venture outside when it’s not so wild

WouldBeGood · 19/02/2021 11:19

I guess I’m just scared I’ll need a vaccine proof to go out to things

OP posts:
shouldistop · 19/02/2021 11:21

I honestly don't think it will happen @WouldBeGood. It would be a huge undertaking for the nhs and it's really the last thing they need just now.

WaxOnFeckOff · 19/02/2021 11:22

And commiserations shouldistop, a crying baby is so hard to deal with.

Remember, you are doing a good job, your DC are safe and well looked after.

When I was a kid, I often spent rainy days in the bath playing for ages, obviously not as much else to play with in those days, but a few plastic cups, a strainer etc and some bubbles and I could honestly be in there for hours with occasional hot water top ups

shouldistop · 19/02/2021 11:24

@WaxOnFeckOff its funny you should say that as ds1 is currently playing happily under the shower. Hopefully be happy for another 30 mins then it's lunchtime.
I feel so guilty about dh having to intervene so often, he's trying to work. He never complains. Thank fuck he's working from home!

mibbelucieachwell · 19/02/2021 11:32
Daffodil

For Shouldistop. I don't see why you couldn't argue that you're vulnerable as a new mum. Post natal depression is very common and being stuck in with a new baby and another wee one will put you at increased risk. The legality of fining you for having a cuppa with your mum or a close friend in your circumstances would be questionable I would think. Could you have someone round for a wee while or ask someone to take your baby or toddler out for a wee while?

WaxOnFeckOff · 19/02/2021 11:32

It was also my mum's way to stop naps when we were at that point as I didn't go to sleep in the bath, well only sometimes... 😬

titsbumfannythelot · 19/02/2021 11:44

I often put my youngest in the bath if she needs to calm down for whatever reason.

NotAnActualSheep · 19/02/2021 11:50

Oh, what a nightmare. I have no advice, but total sympathy. I remember the days of having to take DS out in the buggy and get on a bus (seemingly the only place he would sleep). At one stage I had far too much knowledge of the termini of pretty much every Lothian bus route...

To be fair, I often put myself in the bath if I need to calm down for any reason GrinWine
WaxOnFeckOff · 19/02/2021 11:54

DH was a stay at home dad to my two (13 months apart) and I'd often be working away for a few nights at a time, no local family support etc. He'd take them for a drive some afternoons just to get them both to sleep and he'd pull in somewhere and have a nap himself.

shouldistop · 19/02/2021 11:54

@mibbelucieachwell thanks. I know, my mum and mil do take ds1 every week for a few hours each but neither will come in our house or have me in theirs which is fair enough I suppose. They both also bring us a dinner once a week each so I do have support. DH is brilliant.
It's just the lack of any kind of life at the moment, it just feels like we're existing.
