Guilt free railing

The place to vent, moan, rail, cheer: whatever you’re feeling about Covid, and the rules, and life and the universe.

I’ve started this as I’m feeling scared and fed up with increasing restrictions despite vaccines. I feel that what should be a more positive time is instead bringing more and more doom.

I want the simple pleasures of life back, as well as all the big stuff.

So glad I found this thread. I ended up deleting all my social media accounts as people seemed to be begging for more restrictions and schools to stay closed.

rogueantimatter · 17/02/2021 10:07

Good morning from East East Dunbartonshire. This thread was so welcome yesterday after Nipoleon's eh, cautious forecasting. Tbh, I'd be greatly cheered up even by the propsect of a day trip to a coastline with a public toilet that's open and a bag of chips on a bench. If someone on Nipoleon's team can explain why it isn't 'safe' to do that I''m sure I'll feel better though. I mean, they're the experts what with their expertise in pulling teeth and talking loudly and patronisingly. I can't possibly hope to understand the science. My only qualifications are common sense, empathy, decades of working with children, volunteer experience with working with a project run by the council social work team and a degree in philosophy. Hang on....

Not that it'll be any consolation, but everyone who is having to endure horrendously stressful circumstances at the moment : I think about you a lot and appreciate my fortunate situation every day.

jabbathebutt · 17/02/2021 10:11

As I've said before, I'm surprised Nipoleon lets us even cross the road.

I'd love a bag of chips followed by a cone, down at Helensburgh pier.

I mind going when they had the wee putting green there.

#nostalgic

applesandpears33 · 17/02/2021 10:28

I just want to be able to travel across the country to see my parents. I am missing them so much but don't see when I'll be able to travel to see them.

rogueantimatter · 17/02/2021 10:40

Ooh a putting green. Yes please.

FredUpNow · 17/02/2021 10:40

I found myself railing (on a thread discussing travel out of Scotland!) about talking with a friend in the open air at a distance being demonised by government advertising.

I knew I'd turned off commercial radio for a reason!

FredUpNow · 17/02/2021 10:41

applesandpears, same here.

WouldBeGood · 17/02/2021 10:42

Hello all new railers 😃

FredUpNow · 17/02/2021 10:45

I am an old railer who has re-registered to de-stress in company.

WouldBeGood · 17/02/2021 10:48

And old railers 😃

God what I'd give for some competent, straight government under any colour of rosette!

Sootess · 17/02/2021 11:18

Can I join the illegal wagon train over the "border" in April if Boris opens up?
Almost all our family in England and WalesShock

MaxNormal · 17/02/2021 11:25

I was thinking about something - I've always been very law-abiding not through any fear of being caught but my instincts genuinely don't compell me towards illegal activities (I'll draw a veil over the nineties and trans parties, but that aside).
This feels different as literally only a fear of getting caught, and things not being open anyway, is what stops me from doing things, and I do anything I judge I can get away with.
Nothing risky towards other people I should say as a disclaimer, I'm not insisting on visiting the unwilling elderly at their homes.

And yes I'm quite happy to "look them in the eye" after doing that.

OldRailer · 17/02/2021 11:25

So I'm no longer fed up, namechanged now as I am feeling refreshed as a railer.

jabbathebutt · 17/02/2021 11:39

I've been law abiding too although I'm sure the neighbours think I'm breaking the rules as I have had both sets of parents in the house. Not very often TBF and most of the time its at the doorstep, but as I'm vulnerable, and DH is a keyworker, I do rely on our parents more than most.

DD has been out with a friend at times for her mental health. One of the neighbours came all the way outside to tell DD off at the start of lockdown for not socially distancing beside her "friend" she was walking down the road with, only for neighbour to realise the friend in question was actually me - her mother - I was too happy about looking like a preteen (which DD was at the time) to tell her to MYOB and we just nodded when she said oh sorry! Said neighbour is a nurse so maybe extra worried / sensitive.

WaxOnFeckOff · 17/02/2021 11:47

We'll need a new thread soon. Any ideas on names @wouldbegood?

Railing in the years?

WouldBeGood · 17/02/2021 11:54

Yes🙌🏻
shouldistop · 17/02/2021 12:40

Deaths in care homes down 62% due to vaccination. So if it works so well why the doom and gloom from SG?

Anyway I've just ordered a box of 12 Krispy creme donuts on just eat. I think baby ds is having a growth spurt, he's been feeding all morning and I'm bloody starving! (That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it) (I will share with dh and ds1 Grin)

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 17/02/2021 12:42

My laptop won't fucking work 🤬

I am also watching FMQ's because I'm an arsehole who likes to torture myself 🤦‍♀️

OldRailer · 17/02/2021 12:44

No I cannot watch FMQs it just goes nowhere.

Bytheloch · 17/02/2021 12:44

The ronseal approach- does what it says on the tin. I wonder how many we’ll get to using the number sequence...Guilt Free Railing #54 when we’re allowed to have a sparkling mineral water, outside a pub, alone, only from 11am and before 1136.

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/02/2021 12:46

Debates whether I could persuade DH to drive 20 miles for Krispy Kreme. Might be pushing it. Might manage more like 10 miles for m&s yumnuts
shouldistop · 17/02/2021 12:46

I quite like watching RD question NS. I'm not a Tory but RD seems to be the only one that can ruffle NS feathers.
