Guilt free railing

The place to vent, moan, rail, cheer: whatever you’re feeling about Covid, and the rules, and life and the universe.

I’ve started this as I’m feeling scared and fed up with increasing restrictions despite vaccines. I feel that what should be a more positive time is instead bringing more and more doom.

I want the simple pleasures of life back, as well as all the big stuff.

I want my baby at 18 months to go in someone else’s house

WouldBeGood · 16/02/2021 22:43

Yes @BillywigSting and @littlbrowndog 💕💕

Totally agree Billy
On the news yesterday it said "Of course going on holiday is illegal at the moment".
Can you imagine hearing that statement 2 years ago and thinking what on earth kind of dystopian nightmare must that country be? Answer - the UK in 2021.
I have seriously had enough. Last year we thought we could look forward to a holiday abroad in summer 2021. Now according to NS this afternoon we might, just might if we're good and obey all the stupid rules, get a staycation I hate that bloody word Angry

I want to take my toddler to the library. He’d absolutely love the library. But the only times it’s been open since March has been ‘click and collect’ only, and God knows how long it’ll be before they’re happy to let toddlers actually come into the building and touch books.

I feel like I shouldn’t grumble about WFH with children since all mine are going back to school/nursery after the 22nd but this is the railing thread so hear me rail:

it is MISERABLE. My work has gone from being decent during Lockdown 1 to really thinking we should all just get on with it this time round. They think they’re ‘being flexible’ by letting us work outside normal hours, so long as the work gets done. But how can I? Trading shifts with DH all day and there’s still no time. Constant constant chasing, where’s this, where’s that, did you read this, did you write that, did you get my email, why haven’t you replied to my email, this is late, that’s late, I phoned you but you didn’t answer? Yes because I was trying to homeschool or entertain little ones who are all bored stupid all bloody day. And my eldest doesn’t go to bed until 10 in lockdown and is so sad and needy all evening, and then my youngest wakes between 10.30-11, so I can’t even catch up properly in the evenings without ignoring somebody.

I am constantly needed. I am constantly doing one thing or another to the sound of my phone ringing, my email pinging, “Mummy Mummy Mummmmmyyyyyyyy”, and I can never go fast enough or capably enough to keep up. I have no downtime - not that there’s anything to bloody do anyway - and I am tired down to my bones.

GoldenOmber · 16/02/2021 22:58

I am so sorry about your friend BillywigSting. And the residents in your care home. This is just so fucking awful.

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/02/2021 23:03

Agree Billy

I want my toddler to actually go to soft play and tot groups and meet other children. She's pretty much unsocialised, and whilst it's making for an adorably cuddly little kid she struggles with other people because she just doesn't get to see them!

Callisto1 · 16/02/2021 23:04

Flowers for everyone! I feel your pain.

Callisto1 · 16/02/2021 23:08

I got the 2 year developmental questionnaire last week and they were asking how my toddler reacts to known adults. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/02/2021 23:19

What's a known adult to most 2 year olds, apart from their parents, right now? ffs

Callisto1 · 16/02/2021 23:31

Yeah last time they saw a grandparent was October. We're entitled to a bubble but it's over 300 miles. Bit hard to sustain that.
I guess maybe once DC goes to nursery they might have a known adult.

I got a 5 minute phonecall for dc2's 2 year review last year. Was a complete waste of time. Although they didn't ask that which is probably lucky.

It's dc1's birthday tomorrow (technically today now). Tried to make it fun but every other year he's either had a party at softplay or we've gone away for a long weekend. This year just feels like a letdown.

Seriously considering making a run for it somewhere. Mil used to smuggle dairy products and poteen over the border between NI and Ireland in her youth and has been sharing tips. Everytime the Government and/or their advisors open their mouths I just get more depressed. Someone actually told me I was lucky I'd travelled a lot before I got traumatised because we'll never go back to what we had before. That made me cry for the first time in a very long time.

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/02/2021 00:27

I do sometimes find myself wondering if we will ever go back to something like old normal. I dunno...i think less business travel and increased wfh are here to stay. But what about holidays, big events, festivals, just going to a pub and chatting, having a house party... It seems like there may be a reluctance to let go of the leashes. Such normal things feel so far away.

anon444877 · 17/02/2021 07:52

Rumours that boris is allowing holiday lets and larger hotels to open from early April.

That'll be a divergence if it happens.

WouldBeGood · 17/02/2021 08:43

I never thought I’d see the day, but I’m relying on Boris. 😂

WouldBeGood · 17/02/2021 08:44

I think big events will happen as there is a massive public appetite for them.

Look at the pictures from India, where they are back to all that.

anon444877 · 17/02/2021 08:47

wouldbegood terrifying - has a woman ever been able to rely on Boris :)

jabbathebutt · 17/02/2021 08:49

@IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 yes I get refused entry all the time, despite having both visible and invisible disabilities. So I don't go anywhere unless I really really need to. In which situation I do wear a mask, even though its really difficult to do. I had to buy loads to find the one most comfortable for me. I also get people refusing to remove their mask so that I can lip read (I am deaf) and it is most likely to be NHS staff who refuse, who you'd think would be a bit more understanding of disability.

Re: Boris and holidays. I could understand self catering opening, but not too sure about opening hotels. I doubt Nicola will open anything though and it'll be a strict 'stay away' message to the nasty English.

rookiemere · 17/02/2021 08:59

Well if Boris opens hotels etc in England for Easter we shall find a way to get across the border.

Shame really as I'd booked a cancellable holiday cottage in Scotland, but clearly that's not going to happen so it would be fantastic to see English relatives.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 17/02/2021 09:01

@jabbathebutt that is horrible you should not need to go through that.

WouldBeGood · 17/02/2021 09:10

@anon444877 😂

I really really want hotels to open. Properly, with drink. A nice hotel trip with DP would cheer me up no end. I don’t want bloody self catering - had quite enough of cooking and housework!!

OP posts:
WouldBeGood · 17/02/2021 09:12

@jabbathebutt I’ve found wearing headphones with soothing music on really helpful if I have to do a longer shop. It’s distracting and drowns out the lectures on repeat over the tannoy.

OP posts:
anon444877 · 17/02/2021 09:15

Anything would do - pub lunch, hotel, self catering. At least it's lovely blue sky today.

WouldBeGood · 17/02/2021 09:22

Back to the Scotsnet house swap? 😃

OP posts:
jabbathebutt · 17/02/2021 09:26

thanks @WouldBeGood but one of my many disabilities is hearing impairment so I can't hear music very well!

I'm also visually impaired, speech impaired, PTSD, anaemic, problems with my balance, reynaud's syndrome (hence open windows being a problem), possible heart problem I'm being tested for, not allowed to drive while heart problem being tested

I'm vulnerable but not vulnerable enough to get a fucking jag yet.

I can work though (with adjustments) but need to WFH during this pandemic. So I live in constant fear of WFH rule being lifted.

Sorry, just hating this whole situation.

On a slightly more positive note. I'm so glad I bought a Roomba imitation cause when I start new job (WFH) I can just put it on and that's one part of the housework done! Now I need a robot ironing thingie....hell, just a robot slave overall would be great Grin

WouldBeGood · 17/02/2021 09:30

Oh no, @jabbathebutt that’s all a lot to deal with.

I like the idea of slave robots 😃
