That’s awful @RaspberryCoulis there’s so many people falling through the net just now Flowers

dancemom · 05/02/2021 13:13

What were the stats today, I missed the briefing and can't see it on the bbc website

titsbumfannythelot · 05/02/2021 13:21

895 new cases, 61 deaths registered and 48,000 vaccines administered

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 05/02/2021 13:54

Good that the vaccine numbers are up.
Well over 90% of over 80s in care homes and community, 47% of 75-79s. Things are moving in the right direction.
Less than 5% testing positive, R number under 1. The more things go in the right direction, the more likely some pupils can go back on 22/02.

@RaspberryCoulis

I'm really struggling today. Have had my mum on the phone very worried about dad's mental decline. He probably has dementia but no bugger will actually SEE him to assess and nobody's interested as he's not attacking my mum or setting the house on fire. Today things are a lot worse, he doesn't recognise her, is scared, irrational and refusing even to get out of bed and have a cup of tea. She is waiting for a call back from the local mental health team but I have told her that if she doesn't hear back within the hour she's to call an ambulance. We would never have got to this stage had the entire NHS not shut down and turned into the National Covid Service.

So irrespective of the "rules" around Covid, i'll be crossing the country for an illegal trip to my parents because quite frankly they need me.

Hugs

So sorry to hear about your dad @RaspberryCoulis your mum will be so glad to see you Flowers

Dinnafashyersel · 05/02/2021 14:03

raspberry just wanted to suggest you get your DM to make sure your DF doesn't have a urine infection. UTIs in the elderly are extremely common and they can cause dementia like symptoms quickly if not treated.

If nothing else it may be easier to get a GP to engage with UTI investigation and treatment than dementia referral.

(reading along but bit snowed atm)

Best wishes to MrGroovee also. Second advice to follow up with Consultant's PA or clinic nurse.

good shout, my DM never had dementia but would get these types of episodes and it was always a UTI. I'd forgotten about that.
shouldistop · 05/02/2021 14:08

@RaspberryCoulis I'm so sorry, you must be worried sick.

RaspberryCoulis · 05/02/2021 14:16

Ah you're all so kind. Phoned back and spoke to Dad who has obviously decided that today he's not going to die and so he better get up and have lunch. Hmm

I am not medically trained but I am urging mum to press for a full assessment and a medication review - he's on God knows how many pills for this and that and there's every chance some are interfering with others. I also think they need to come up with a concrete plan for scheduling medication so as to make the mornings better. Mum's always said that once he's up, dressed and had his tea and toast he's much better.

The surgery are sending out a nurse to take bloods and collect a urine sample to see what's going on. So I have been told to hold off a visit for today. Will maybe go one day next week if it's dry on the pretext of swapping DD's vast stash of jigsaws with mum's.

shouldistop · 05/02/2021 14:21

It's been pissing it down here all day. We've baked some cookies, watched a bit lot of tv and now going to play bowling in the hall with a wee set ds1 got for Christmas.
So fed up with the weather, looking forward to the forecast snow so we can at least go sledging.
Ds2 really is a wee angel, he has reflux but he's ever so good and routinely sleeps 7-9 hours at night without a feed at only 2mo. He must know I can't handle sleep deprivation just now on top of lock down. His only activity is being held up to look out the window.

@StatisticallyChallenged

I don't think you can legally compel anyone to have hospital treatment though, not without the sky falling in on the civil liberties front.

Not sure the sky is very high on that front anyway!

Can you imagine, a little over a year ago, if someone had said:

  • It will be illegal for you to go out except for limited, government approved reasons
  • it will be illegal for you to meet with your family and friends
  • you won't be able to get married or hold a christening service and funerals will be heavily restricted
  • you won't be allowed to go to church/synagogue/mosque
  • your children won't be allowed to go to school
  • a large proportion of the population won't be allowed to go to work
  • the government will decide what it is essential for you to buy and shops which don't sell these items will be closed
  • you won't be able to leave the country

We'd have thought this was utterly impossible.

Ironically, DS is learning about the great human rights in Scotland compared to China. From online learning.
WouldBeGood · 05/02/2021 14:53

@Groovee I’m glad things are progressing apace, notwithstanding the poor communication

RaspberryCoulis · 05/02/2021 15:44

Missed the update this afternoon so have just looked on the Tabby site - it's all looking positive, isn't it?

Loads fewer cases than this time last week. Fewer people in ICU and hospital in general than there were yesterday. Two days in a row where the positivity rate was under 5%. Vaccinations FINALLY appear to be accelerating. R rate estimate at around 0.8.

LoopyGremlin · 05/02/2021 15:47

I’m breaking the rules today. Daughter and her little friend wanted to meet up. We were all trudging around on the rain. I’ve let them sit on the doormat in the hall....the Covid police will be out to get me.

Groovee · 05/02/2021 15:58

@RaspberryCoulis that's good a nurse is coming. It helps.

Had a text from someone which has brightened my day. That really has picked me up. I need to just get through the weekend.

Sootess · 05/02/2021 16:02

Yes numbers all looking very positive today.
I'm in Edinburgh and we're back to September numbers. Large swathes of white on interactive dashboard.
Level 2 in old money I reckon, which we were never allowed Confused

shouldistop · 05/02/2021 16:07

Do you think we'll have done a million vaccinations by the end of next week at the current rate? That will be a good milestone.

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/02/2021 16:08

glad to see all the good numbers but worrying we are jinxing it by mentioning them :)

anon444877 · 05/02/2021 16:22

My parents have been jabbed so a good end to a Friday, let's hope this good rate keeps on!

goodname · 05/02/2021 16:57

@Lockdownbear cornwalls not too bad a journey. You can get to looe in ten hours. We always break it up though with a theme park on the way down. Alton towers or Paulton park or gullivers land are on the way and legoland or chessington are out of the way but not bad. Plenty of sites with pools and beaches in Cornwall. Best chance you’ve got of something that feels a bit like a foreign holiday I’d say. Norfolk is a little closer but not much. We love Yorkshire for holidays too, Whitby area is nice. Hoseasons are good for lodges with pools in different areas

anon444877 · 05/02/2021 17:07

I've seen a couple of rumour pieces that England considering 4 extra weeks in summer, extending school days - Scot gov have said nothing about any plans to replace lost education have they?

RaspberryCoulis · 05/02/2021 17:09

Cornwall is glorious, especially if you head off early July before the English schools break up. Yes it's a long drive but it's really worth it! We've booked Dorset for 10 days at the beginning of July.

The problem will be the cost of paying teachers to do this.

School staff only get paid for 195 days a year. Think the problem will be finding the cost of paying staff.
