We've had loads of snow overnight! DH has just been out clearing the street with loads of the neighbours, the older couple over the road are having their jags tomorrow so everyone said that if it snows any more (unlikely) they'll all go out again tomorrow and clear it so they can get out.

DD is away sledging with her friends (not socially distanced probably but meh, who cares). DS forgot it was half term so was duly logged into Teams wondering where everyone else was. Grin

shouldistop · 09/02/2021 12:14

Is it the 16th there will be final confirmation for early years and p1-3?

goodname · 09/02/2021 12:26

@Cismyfatarse that sounds like my mil right down to the love of meringues. However only my chilled out ds takes after her apparently, the slighter harder work oldest ds takes after me 😂

jabbathebutt · 09/02/2021 12:31

TUI thinks we'll all be going abroad this year.

Aye. Right. Sure.

At the same time, Hancock is talking about hotel quarantine.

Hmm
Dinnafashyersel · 09/02/2021 12:33

Cismyfatarse my Hallowe'en ghost meringues turned out a bit damp and mushy so never underestimate the challenge.

When DD3 arrived I was feeling very happy to finally have a DD who looked like me in any way at all. MiL is not convinced who the Father is. Grin.

titsbumfannythelot · 09/02/2021 12:33

61, 299 vaccines administered yesterday, that is phenomenal.

If you made me some meringue @Cismyfatarse I'd be absolutely delighted!

Lockdownbear · 09/02/2021 12:45

Hmm

I don't think the hotel quarantine is from every country however I won't be booking abroad this year.

I imagine TUI must be in talks with UK Gov and EU to even be considering selling holidays for this year. Good luck to those brave enough to book. But the airports and the airline industry need travellers to remain viable too.

StatisticallyChallenged · 09/02/2021 12:57

It is only from some countries. But we've seen before how quickly extra places were added to the at home quarantine list so I think it could easily go the same way with the hotel quarantine once the processes are in place

kurtrussellsbeard · 09/02/2021 13:00

I think holidays will be a no go but I can't blame tui and other travel insurance companies for trying to keep the money flowing.

kurtrussellsbeard · 09/02/2021 13:01

Sorry travel not travel insurance

StatisticallyChallenged · 09/02/2021 13:04

No they're just another business trying to survive this endless shite

rookiemere · 09/02/2021 13:13

@RaspberryCoulis DS has headed out for sledging with his mates. Will probably end up with criminal record for being with friends. I should have said no and then he'd have another day in his bedroom on his computer.
We should be away skiing this week. Ah well DS having more fun with his pals than he would with us.

shouldistop · 09/02/2021 13:21

We still have our holiday to Portugal booked but have booked a Cornwall back up. We'll hedge our bets til nearer the time.

anon444877 · 09/02/2021 13:27

If they enforced the quarantine, presumably some people would be inclined to do it for the chance to be able to go away.

frasersmummy · 09/02/2021 13:41

So Nicola Sturgeon wants to keep her daily briefing slot on the bbc even while campaigning for re-election

seriously?? so she gets to put her face on telly every single day in the run up to the election.

I think this is so wrong . am I alone ?

kurtrussellsbeard · 09/02/2021 13:45

I think that if she keeps it factual in relation to the coronavirus then there's no problem. If she is actually campaigning then yes that's a problem.

Nope, don't think it's wrong as long as the briefings are still about Covid which I'm pretty sure they will be, no matter how much journalists try to steer the questions to other subjects.

I would feel that way about any leader currently in power.

blowinahoolie · 09/02/2021 13:48

Older two DC have been out with their friends sledging this afternoon. They are loving all this snow!!! Two youngest going out with DH after his working day is finished.

Looking forward to my walk later on with whole family and our pup. She loves the snow!🥶

blowinahoolie · 09/02/2021 13:50

Told DS(13) to forget his two periods (Spanish and science) this afternoon and just have fun sledging. Life too short for DC as it is. Let our kids have fun!! He will catch up with academic work later today/evening.

kurtrussellsbeard · 09/02/2021 13:51

The snow has been a great wee boost.

I think it would be more appropriate to have Leitch or Smith doing it during the campaigning phase.

It should be kept factual but she often drops comments which could be seen as party political, especially of the "if we were independent" variety.

I don't think we need daily updates and they don't need to be done by a politician

blowinahoolie · 09/02/2021 14:05

"Is it the 16th there will be final confirmation for early years and p1-3?"

shouldistop think so🤞🤞

Lockdownbear · 09/02/2021 14:19

I don't think the daily briefings are required either. Does anyone actually switch on to listen to them any more?

I barely listen to Boris's although my ears do prick up if he is doing one at an odd time.

littlbrowndog · 09/02/2021 15:00

Same as you lockdown bear

Gave up on the daily droning every day

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 09/02/2021 15:09

I agree that if the daily briefings must continue during the election phase (and it's not at all clear to me that they should with all the numbers going in the right direction) it should be an advisor rather than a political figure doing it. Like @StatisticallyChallenged I have also noticed the political comments slotted in amongst the facts, I think she can't help herself actually, but there's also the issue of unfair exposure of one party over the others.

I honestly think it should be someone with knowledge doing them anyway. I don't know why the others are there most of the time, except maybe to give the impression of a team effort. Even if a question is directed at them, NS makes some kind of monologue before handing over and allowing them to repeat what she's just said Confused
