@Cismyfatarse
My point was they can only vaccinate with what they have, ie can hardly vaccinate 2m if only have a quarter of that, plenty moaning about the volume taking place.
Tbf I’m weary of the NS bashing on here, I wonder who ppl think would do better, I think she’s done a good job under unprecedented circumstances.

Downton57 · 18/01/2021 19:23

Scotland has a very different geography, including 94 inhabited islands, so getting the vaccine into everyone's arms is a massive challenge. I did think when NS talked of supply being 'a bit bumpy' she meant getting our allocated share on the right dates, though I could be wrong. .

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/01/2021 19:26

@HerMammy

Just last week Scotland had only been allocated 560,000 vaccines, they can only use what they have, the target is 1.4m by end of February.
Well if they've used all those up and are then sitting twiddling their thumbs waiting on their next allocation then I'll be the first to apologise. They have the same share as the other UK nations and aren't getting them rolled out. They've used less than half and have enough supply to achieve those targeted by 5th Feb. It's shambolic.

Most of the population is in the central belt and many areas are still waiting on supply. If they'd done most of the mainland and not the islands which are pretty low risk, i don't think we'd be complaining.

But this shouldn’t be unexpected news to our government that we have islands and distances

Should th3 plans not have been in place for this ?

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/01/2021 19:30

Sorry to hear about your dad @titsbumfannythelot is he ill with it or just positive?

They have not done the big population centre. Roll out has been uneven and you have a greater chance of dying of Covid unvaccinated than in England.

That is on Scot Gov. NS can't be congratulated on her handling of things if she is not effectively managing the way out of this.

And schools. FFS give us a date so I can go back. Please don't fob us off.

Planning for a proposed return date is much less stressful on everyone even if only proposed rather than set in stone.

Yes to all this
Groovee · 18/01/2021 19:43

Marking my place. Dh's been allowed food and to fast again from midnight. He's on a vitamin drip to try and reduce the minion in him (his jaundice).

I'm in work tomorrow and will miss the announcement.

littlbrowndog · 18/01/2021 19:43

And the nurseries. Please

Groovee · 18/01/2021 19:44

@titsbumfannythelot

I'm so fucked off today. My Dad has just tested positive for Covid in hospital in SA. He's probably vulnerable in a few respects so I'm very worried for him.
💐💐 much love coming your way x

Assuming we have had our correct share of the vaccines - which when previously questioned we were told we had - then I don't think we should be lagging so much. The islands are a tiny share of the population and shouldn't be the focus; arguably given the higher rates it would make sense to focus them on the heavily populated areas in the west/Greater Glasgow to try to get the maximum impact in terms of reducing deaths. England and NI have both vaccinated roughly 1/3 more (as a %) of their population than we have.

It's not about competition with England, it's about asking why the SG are not getting this done when other areas are demonstrating that given the same supply it is possible to do better. I'd call it a peer comparison rather than competition

I'm hoping that now she's letting the Army get involved things will roll out quicker - also let's get pharmacies up and running. I'm a bit surprised I actually thought Scotland was going to do much better than this. Very disappointing.
Coquohvan · 18/01/2021 20:42

Agree @Statistically it is a case of comparison per population. It is right we call out any governmental miss steps. Every stat I’ve seen regarding tests, cases and sadly deaths, have that same comparison, be it between Health Boards or counties. Currently our government is SNP hence being challenged. Can hope with the army on board their logistical know how will push forward our roll out.

originalUnicorn · 18/01/2021 20:49

I agree regarding the vaccination roll out chat. Scotland has been allocated its share its then up to Scotland to roll this out and so far we are lagging. Yes they’ve taken a different focus in terms of doing health care workers and care homes first however surely the basic rates should be same as the other nations. It’s also to interesting to look at the age stats of who have had the vaccine and a huge amount of 30-50 have had compared to other ages which is obviously care and nhs staff. If aim is to try to reduce deaths then shouldn’t the over 80s be done simultaneously at least.

To me all this should have been planned for and all ready to go - venues, staff, logistics etc. I like that Army is assisting but how can they only just be scouting venues?! I don’t understand why they aren’t using the flu jag roll out template?! My DP attended a big town hall type venue and said it was very well organised and efficient and safe. Why are they now trying to get these patience Into GP surgeries - surely that’s not as efficient or safe for a mass vaccination program. Having said that I’m not that keen on the mass vaccination centres in England where elderly are queuing out in the freezing cold either.

Also getting frustrated that our FM is spending upwards of an hour daily (I’d imagine by time prepares preps etc it’s at least 2hrs) in front of a camera. We don’t need daily stats read out to us we can read them in published info. We don’t need constant reminders and telling off for rule breaking. We certainly don’t need patronising empathetic speeches and to be told how she understand and could cry and how we are all sacrificing blah blah blah. She takes forever to get to the point (much like me and this post Blush) waffle and excuses. Then answering the same questions over and over and eye rolling at them. Enough is enough indeed. Get back to the day job Nicola get running meetings and organising this bloody vaccination mess. Get a plan for the schools opening and for catching up al these children missing out. Get a plan for mental health care provision in the aftermath of this time. Get thinking how we can get OUT of lockdown rather than thinking how to patronise us and give us another “6 rules” to follow. No one is listening because she’s on every blinking day. There is no “oh Nicola is in today must be new announcement I need to listen” feeling in nation because she’s is ALWAYS on. (For record I’ve nothing against her and think she’s done well in many ways but the above stuff really irritates).

Outsidemum1 · 18/01/2021 20:50

The strategies have been different and Scotland is following the strategy advised to be the most beneficial in preventing deaths- care homes and health care staff. The care homes are obviously much more time consuming. We have moved onto the next ( easier) stage of roll out and we are actualky vaccinating way way more on a daily basis currently than England.
I really wouldn't talk about deaths in comparison between the two countries.

MissEliza · 18/01/2021 20:59

@originalUnicorn my df got his flu jab at the local town hall and was very impressed with the organisation. We expected they'd use the same template for the Covid vaccine but no sign of that so far. I agree with you about elderly people waiting in the cold. I don't like it but I can't see a way around it in some settings due to social distancing requirements. A local GP practice in our town is performing the vaccinations for all our GP practices. It's not possible to safely have all the people waiting inside.

Peppafrig · 18/01/2021 21:00

Thank you so much to everyone for the information about carers. Considering the last estimated number of unpaid carers in Scotland was 690,000 her £750,000 isn’t going to do anything to help them .

titsbumfannythelot · 18/01/2021 21:01

Thanks @WaxOnFeckOff @WouldBeGood and @Groovee. He was routinely tested before being discharged from hospital to a rehabilitation centre, so asymptomatic. He's now in a Covid ward, so am worried about viral load and all sorts of shit I had no idea about last year.

Glad to hear Mr G managed to eat today, I hope he kicks that minion into touch.

ladylunchalot · 18/01/2021 21:05

There seems to be a real shortage for Staff in my local health board to get the vaccine. I got mine 2 weeks ago but I had to log onto our system at midnight in order to book a slot. I've looked at it since and there's hardly been any slots at all.
I'm frustrated at the dragging of feet with the rollout although the last flu clinic was just completed on Saturday so they've maybe been waiting to clear that?? I honestly don't know anymore.

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/01/2021 21:05

Sorry @Groovee but the minion reference gave me a chuckle, hope you're all OK WineFlowers

hilbil21 · 18/01/2021 21:11

@Peppafrig I receive carers allowance for my son, we don't need any money but even if we did, we aren't part of the local carers centre because there's a waiting list! So I'm sure there's going to be people who do need financial help, in a similar boat. It's a bit of a shambles if you ask me.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 18/01/2021 21:12

The BBC seemed fairly positive about the lag - they said it was because they were prioritising care homes. It's obviously Nicola's thing to sort the care homes - I think she genuinely regrets the catastrophic decisions made in March.
