@ssd yes, frustratingly it appears that we are falling behind, with England and NI storming ahead. We were flatlining at about 16k a day which needs to increase massively to meet the (revised down) target of 560k by the end of Jan, but have only managed 40k over the last three days so have actually gone slightly backwards even with the Louise Jordan opening up.

These stories of still securing sites and recruiting, and of problems with distribution, don't inspire confidence either.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 18/01/2021 17:55

@Lockdownbear

Did they not do 5000 NHS staff on Saturday at the SEC?
Yes, the daily rate seems to be around 15k
RaspberryCoulis · 18/01/2021 18:08

BBC National news back to the full on doom gloom coverage on the 6pm news. Footage of people digging graves, crying nurses, recently bereaved relatives, crowded wards.

WE GET IT.

Enough already.

MissEliza · 18/01/2021 18:24

@Lockdownbear I remember. I was visiting my dps in Scotland and had never heard of her before but was struck by how much she enjoyed the sound of her own voice.
She always had to put herself in the limelight. I remember when the lorry accident in Queen street happened, she had to occupy pride of place at the memorial service. I didn't really see the need for her to be there in the first place but that's just me.

littlbrowndog · 18/01/2021 18:25

Can’t watch the news any more.

MissEliza · 18/01/2021 18:28

I'm so disappointed at the apparent relative lack of progress with the vaccinations. I hope it's just a blip. My df is 78 and getting a bit anxious. I was just reading on my local Facebook group in SE England that some people in their 70s have got it. I'm pleased for them but anxious for df. Cases are up in his area.

Coquohvan · 18/01/2021 18:28

Looks like we “could do better” with the vaccine rollout.
Your all correct she is causing us to switch off with her daily noise. Best if she did it when we had actually news to hear. We receive the stats daily on various sites that’s more than enough, I think, my ears prick up when I hear UK having an update, no more torturing myself when she does. 😒

In Scotland, over 80% of care home residents have been vaccinated and over half of our health and social care workers. The vaccinations of over 80s have begun and should be on target to be completed by the end of the month. If you want to turn it into a competition, England are 'behind' on both vaccinations of health workers and of care home residents. We will need to upscale, but the targets seem doable.

hilbil21 · 18/01/2021 18:44

@Waverless Honestly been annoyed with this since probably last March! It INFURIATES me the way she says it Grin

MissEliza · 18/01/2021 18:46

@Downton57 I don't want any competition, I just want to see everyone get their vaccinations. There's a lot of anxious elderly people.

Rae36 · 18/01/2021 18:50

My parents are 69 and my mum is not in great health, they'll be waiting flipping ages. I'm so anxious to see the vaccines rolling out. But like everything else here it's completely out of my control, I just have to sit and watch the numbers.

Surely in terms of numbers it should track the same regardless of the population? It's not necessarily quicker to vaccinate a community of 80 year olds than it is to vaccinate health workers and care home residents given that those 80 year olds need to be corralled from the community, most not using public transport and relying on other people to get them there. Definitely not enough to account for the difference in levels.

Hmm, I think something is brewing. Mainly because I just don’t have any faith in ScotGov and know how crucial May is to them, they’ve managed to pull an inde task force together, so why not vaccine rollout? Hmm
If we in Scotland are all kept locked up longer and figures driven right down, almost zero (enough places sitting with zero cases already ) there’s simply no need to go hell for leather on vaccines across population just now? Steady roll out AND keeping the rest of us locked up, gradual release as vaccine delivered, say up to March/April. ‘We are saved’ says the headline.

Whereas England likely to start releasing younger with a ‘back to business’ approach earlier, so need higher volumes of vaccine delivery? Or certainly for it to look like that way for the media narrative.
I literally have no faith left in ScotGov, I think NS is such a player that there’s no way she’d let England look more successful for vaccine delivery without a plan to counter that. Or maybe I’m overthinking it and it’s actually just the usual incompetence Grin

HerMammy · 18/01/2021 18:57

When Boris says he's doing one everyone knows he has something important to say, so actually tune in to listen
This gave me a laugh, the man umms and ahhs and talks utter bollocks 🤣

Downton57 · 18/01/2021 18:59

@MissEliza Yes, there are and panicking isn't going to help them. My parents are getting vaccinated this month, as hopefully will all the other over 80s. Some people on this thread seem to be anticipating that things will go wrong before anything actually has.

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/01/2021 19:04

Priority groups 1 and 2 expected to be complete by 5th Feb according to tabby. That's 555k but looks to me like it's been pushed out a week? Can't remember though so that might be shite.

@Bytheloch I just got a chill reading your post 😂 I think you could be scarily accurate. Can just picture her and Devi with their zero Covid

WaxOnFeckOff · 18/01/2021 19:06

Mark Drakeford apparently just said that they are spreading them out so they don't run out... Confused

@StatisticallyChallenged

Just took a look at tableau for the first time in a while. My council area is currently on 108 cases/100k - tier 2 in "old" money

I appreciate the increased transmission of the new variant but it does make me wonder how low they're going to dry to drive it before lockdown lifts. I have a feeling we've got a long way to go

I think they will wait til the Scottish average is around 100ish or lower then allow schools then wait 3 weeks......

Currently scottish average is around 200 I think.

Cismyfatarse · 18/01/2021 19:08

But the levels in Scotland ARE lower in terms of vaccine than either England or NI - not by a tiny bit either. Wales is similarly low.

TV images of giant vaccine hubs in cathedrals show how it CAN be done. But it is not being done. And it is not good enough. Every day of delay or obfuscation costs lives.

And wash your hands doesn't quite cut it on a daily basis when we have vaccine sitting in storage and not going into vulnerable people.

Not party politics. Just numerical facts. More people vaccinated is more lives saved.

HerMammy · 18/01/2021 19:09

Just last week Scotland had only been allocated 560,000 vaccines, they can only use what they have, the target is 1.4m by end of February.

Scottishskifun · 18/01/2021 19:12

@Sexnotgender

Really hope to hear some news on nurseries tomorrow 😕
Nurseries seem to always be glossed over even when they close them to majority and forget to actually include it in the briefing for several days!

I think that was what was said today: that starting with care homes has made the early weeks very time consuming and slow, but it should speed up once we're onto the easier to access population.
Cismyfatarse · 18/01/2021 19:15

@HerMammy But they are way behind and we in Scotland have had our allocated share based on population (8% of population and vaccine).

So, where is the issue? Are you alleging that Scotland is not receiving its share? That does not seem to be the case or you can be sure NS would have said that.

By calling supply "a bit bumpy" she used rather flippant language to cover a giant fuck up between the stuff arriving in Scotland and it getting into vulnerable people's arms.

A tiny variation. Fair enough. But it is massive. At the current death rate (1/1000 of the UK population) that is quite a number of deaths in the pipeline.

titsbumfannythelot · 18/01/2021 19:19

I'm so fucked off today. My Dad has just tested positive for Covid in hospital in SA. He's probably vulnerable in a few respects so I'm very worried for him.
