Hogmanay or Ne'er Day?

Sausages or not?

What with it? Mash/chips, roasties and Carrots/peas etc?

And what area of Scotland are you from/living in?

Me: Ne'er day, no sausages, served with Mash, peas and carrots and maybe sprouts if any left, from East coast and now in north central belt.

A question for you experienced pie makers, do you need to let your pie filling go cold before assembling your pie or can you do it straight away once it’s cooked? If it needs to go cold I had better get on with it soon!

Mrsjayy · 01/01/2021 14:22

Happy Pie day I hope all your pastry bottoms are soggy Smile

I don't let my stew go cold just let sit for a minute or 2 then put the pastry on I always have pastry overlapping or mine shrink no idea why

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/01/2021 14:48

We've had to delay pie to normal dinner time as DS2 is hangin oot his arse today - entirely self inflicted but we will need his help with the desperate dan pie so we'd better wait until he's in better fettle.

I'll be honest, the local restaurant we liked did a cook at home Christmas dinner and we ordered after everything with my dad. So they were offering the same for new year, so step by step on their fb page and they deliver it to be made. So easy. It was only £15 for lentil soup, steak pie and cheesecake per person.

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/01/2021 15:14

That's a really good deal and good business for the company. I hope they make it through everything as you can't doubt their commitment to trying.

Ours is in the oven as we speak. Edinburgh born and bred (Forrester park actually 😉)

No sausages, mashed tatties, extra gravy, carrots and broccoli with ours. Used to get our pies from Charles Wilson when wee but now use a fantastic butchers in Uphall closer to where I now live.

We also used the Scotmid FD for DDad who sadly passed away this time last year 😢. It's a small world.

Hope everyone is tucking into their pies and enjoying them!

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/01/2021 15:17

I'm just back from Argos, both it and the sainsburys it's based in were open. DS2s charger for his phone gave up the ghost and he's the only one with an iphone and only brought one cable home with him despite me personally having supplied him with about 10 this year. Anyway he wasn't fit to drive. I'd only had one small cider and a baileys last night so Mum to the rescue once again!

Oh it is a small world! I had a wee wander round Forrester on google maps the other month (a bit sad but I felt it was getting me out! :o) and thought it was looking a bit rundown, certainly around our old flat which was one of the smallest blocks (just 6) and had always been a little smarter looking (we replaced all the fencing when i lived there in the mid 80s - one of the neighbours ran off with the fencing contractor!)

Lots of places are doing the takeaway deals seems fair really. I had no idea Argos would be open Dd2 is forever buying chargers I've no idea what she does to them oh and earphones 🙄

amfairpuggled · 01/01/2021 15:48

WaxOnFeckOff we had 2 flats there, the Drive then the Gardens. Lived there until 1987. Parents moved a couple of miles away and DM still lives in the same house.
I felt quite nostalgic going back when we used the funeral directors and also thought parts sadly looked very run down.
Nice sized flats though and I have very happy childhood memories of growing up there.

Bet my DM would know who run off with the fencing contractor 🤣

WaxOnFeckOff · 01/01/2021 15:56

I lived in the drive! Shock and agree great flats. I remember the name of the guy that was run out on but can't recall the name of the woman. I'd have been there the same time as you. Think we bought in 1984 and was there until v early 90s Scandal would have happened about 87/8 maybe? Mid summer anyway and woman spent a lot of time in the drying green in her bikini while it was being re-fenced.

@WaxOnFeckOff a month we in ds's Primary class lived in FP and she was the talk of the neighbourhood with her sunbathing activities when the sun showed up. We were all off to Costa Del Forries at one point. 😂.

My friend still lives in her flat there and they are good sizes.

We lived at Gogarloch when we got together. And they've built so many houses there on the last 4 years.

Groovee · 01/01/2021 16:29
  • a mother not a month.
Groovee · 01/01/2021 16:30

@amfairpuggled it really is a small world.

ikswobel · 01/01/2021 17:02

It really is ... this is a bit weird. It's like when Facebook ads pop up after you've been talking about something.... is MNHQ up to something Grin

TheCanyon · 01/01/2021 18:06

So dh got up and had too many wines as a hair of the dog, then tottered off to sainsburys in his fucking pyjamas and slippers ffs to get our new years meal. Came home with stuff for a bbq Hmm its -1° ffs. Just phoned the kebab shop...

Groovee · 01/01/2021 19:33

A bbq??? Was he still drunk

Mrsjayy · 01/01/2021 20:37

A BBQ! is he usually an arsehole 😄

TheCanyon · 03/01/2021 21:16

Sorry Grooves and Mrsjayy, my threads I'm on is not working so just seen this.

I can confirm that I woke up at 7am to hear his rambling on to the kids about sweets for breakfast, yup, hair of the dog was a bottle of wine or 2 and several beers I reckon actually Shock

He's usually a good man but has these mental nights/mornings once a year or so and he is absolutely the worst arsehole useless known to man on these days.

Glad I had a soberish night, still not had the bbq. Lucky as it's been frozen solid with I've got a good week. Absolutely gutted the house today while I say on my arse so I shall forgive him, til next time

Mrsjayy · 03/01/2021 21:18

I thought I had offended youBlush

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/01/2021 21:23

Ah I think we are all allowed an occasional day of arsehole-ness as much as it's a pain for everyone else at the time. Glad he has redeemed himself and maybe just need to plan ahead with steak pie before next year Grin
