@WouldBeGood

I hate the bloody masks but have religiously obeyed the rules on them despite it really impeding my life
Yup. Me too. I think recently Piers Morgan and Dr Hilary Jones were recently caught out too. Interesting that the most pious are being caught out. I particularly hate HJ after hearing him say if Covid cases rise in schools, it would be the fault of teachers who did by socially distance outside of school. AngryAngryAngry
Peppafrig · 22/12/2020 23:15

Apparently some other SNP MPs are tweeting support for her saying she is sorry and we need to move on . Just like she would if this was Ruth Davidson or anyone else. Sure thing .

WouldBeGood · 22/12/2020 23:18

@MissEliza yes, and she’s even worse as she decreed the laws she’s broken.

And continually lectured and caused so much pain, fear and guilt about the rules. It’s just not on.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 22/12/2020 23:41

I would have some sympathy for NS if she was just an average person who forgot about the mask wearing rules - it’s all so bloody confusing and unnatural I’d bet most of us have accidentally broken a rule at one point or another. But she is the one not only setting the rules but lecturing us all on a daily basis about following them, so she should know better!

I can’t help thinking that if Boris or Ruth has made a similar mistake she’d be howling about breaking public confidence in the rules and calling for their heads.

Exactly!

@WaxOnFeckOff

A lovely story to end this thread on. I’ll consider this a wee Christmas gift (unbleached and not quarantined). Xmas Grin

Insert loyal fans here saying it was just a mistake.

SylviasMotherSaid · 23/12/2020 00:18

In my experience it’s the SNP Nicola fans who do the most preaching on social media about the rules and masks and in real life every single one of them that I know either doesn’t wear masks or has repeatedly broke the rules which they’re so fond of . I couldn’t care less what anyone else does in terms of the rules as long as they’re not in my space but I can’t stand a hypocrite .

MissEliza · 23/12/2020 00:33

I understand people forgetting themselves and making a mistake but would NS have such an understanding attitude to those on the other side of the political spectrum? Definitely not. She'd love the opportunity to make political capital.

RJnomore1 · 23/12/2020 06:44

She seems to forget herself quite a lot though. Conversations, statistics, now Covid prevention measures...

tinseltitsbumfannythelot · 23/12/2020 06:53

How the bloody hell can she forget FACTS?

She rams it down our throats daily.

She has also apparently threatened serious action if civil servants break the rules. Double standards again.

tinseltitsbumfannythelot · 23/12/2020 06:54

I've also started a new thread.

I'm not savvy enough to link though.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 23/12/2020 07:22

Jesus Christ, she's taken a mask off for a very short period of time, probably because it's bloody difficult to be understood when you're wearing a mask. It's not like she was licking people.
But of course the public are going to be whipped into a frenzy by the newspapers, calling for her resignation and using it as an excuse to ignore all the festive rules that they would have ignored anyway.
It's a few seconds without a mask. It doesn't mean there's 'one rule for them...' etc. I might have a drink every time I hear that nonsensical phrase today. I wonder if I'd make it to lunchtime.

(And, for the record, I'd say exactly the same thing if it was Ruth Davidson pictured without a mask.)

Arkadia · 23/12/2020 07:37

@icanboogieboogiewoogie, agreed, but still it is very telling of this whole situation (and damn embarrassing).
It is good she gets a few drops of her own medicine, though.

Dinnafashyersel · 23/12/2020 07:41

Jesus Christ, she's taken a mask off for a very short period of time, probably because it's bloody difficult to be understood when you're wearing a mask.

If this is your reaction to someone breaking the rule why would you support that same person mandating the rule for everyone else and lecturing on compliance daily?

The non-compliance is not an issue for me. The arbitrary imposition of ineffectual impractical rules is. Breaking the rules is simply adding insult to injury.

Dinnafashyersel · 23/12/2020 07:43

How the bloody hell can she forget FACTS?

Is there anyone anywhere who can recall FACTS? Polling research suggests not. I've watched the advert countless times and can't.

Bikingbear · 23/12/2020 07:45

When you try to put this sort of stuff into law then you should be prepared to pay the fine and she absolutely should take the consequences.

Just the same as Christmas and New Year any MP or MSP caught breaking the rules should be named shamed and punished like the rest of us.

@Dinnafashyersel me and DH can never remember FACTS so we made up our own.

I’m so embarrassed for her how she can stand up there and ask everyone else to follow the rules over Christmas when she can’t even do it . Shame on her.

I tell my kids not to swear but have, on occasion, done so myself, albeit not in front of them. Should I give up my parenting job? Not tell them not to swear? She apologised, said she'd done wrong, but to suggest she should resign is insane.
Peppafrig · 23/12/2020 08:12

So everyone else who breaks the rules should just apologize and it’s all forgotten, they will need to refund all those fines then.

Peppafrig · 23/12/2020 08:13

She needs to go .

Arkadia · 23/12/2020 08:19

@icanboogieboogiewoogie, no, I dont think she should resign (FOR THIS), but nor should have lots of other people who instead have been publicly humiliated.
She is the face of the FACTS, so she has to take it and be quiet about it with her head bowed down.

Peppafrig · 23/12/2020 08:22

She tweeted anyone who risked the integrity of vital public health advice must go . Her own words. Think I will have a house party tonight and claim it as a stupid mistake and all will be forgiven .

drspouse · 23/12/2020 08:30

Can I ask a Scottish question on behalf of a relative?
My clueless younger relative with school aged DCs has been to an EU country (they have a house there) for several months and was due to fly and quarantine at an elderly relative's house in England on the 24th, but that has now changed to the 8th.
Their flights are still to England but there are no trains to Scotland that night.
Elderly relative says "oh they can stay with us for the night" and I'm talking FIRMLY to elderly relative.
I assume that the regulations allow for a one night stay in a hotel and travel back to their home in Scotland but I can't find this as an exemption to travel.
Does England have to keep them? I really hope not!
