Statistically I think this is where they could have an issue.

DH is a KW who works out of home. I work from home, but because of industry i am classed as essential worker.

I probably wouldn't use the KW provision for a week or so but if it were long term I would possibly look into it.

Arkadia · 22/12/2020 14:43

Just checked, my hogmanay dentist appointment is still going to go ahead. Xmas Grin

Oliv5 · 22/12/2020 15:10

@Wakeupin2022 don't know about others but South Lanarkshire Council are saying keyworkers who work from home can't apply for a space.
I'm so stressed with this.

Jellycatspyjamas · 22/12/2020 15:13

North Lanarkshire are saying both parents need to be key workers, not getting that in our house it’ll be the key worker who does the bulk of childcare.

NotAnActualSheep · 22/12/2020 15:16

It's looking that the Boxing Day restrictions are going to be more like the March lockdown than level 4. Article here So with a "stay at home" order, and closure of homeware and garden centres. And possibly further restrictions. I'm somewhat worried by this. I hope they don't go back to not being allowed to meet anyone outside, or young children having to socially distance. Sad

But yay for dentists! Be aware, that may be the most fun thing that happens in January, though Xmas Wink

Oliv5 · 22/12/2020 15:19

Oh ffs @NotAnActualSheep I could cry. They better not close playparks again. My DS was so down last lockdown, we can't do it again.

WouldBeGood · 22/12/2020 15:24

Just saw that @NotAnActualSheep

So much for all the promises of no more National lockdown and schools staying open

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/12/2020 15:25

I said a few days ago this was lockdown not tier 4.

Seen a similar keyworker criteria doing the rounds for Edinburgh - unless you've got two working outside home keyworkers you're not getting help.

52andblue · 22/12/2020 15:37

@WaxOnFeckOff

Thank you. Yes that is my situation really. Rarely drive, moved since last address, didn't know photocard needed updating (ended 2012).

I will apply for a passport over Xmas and also try to get the form from the PO and send it off with new photos and new address (proof of ID is tricky without a passport so might need to do this first?) Do you still have to get the back of the photo countersigned or can you do it online ? (rural, patchy internet connection)

@Coquohvan

I tried to check online yes, and I am not listed on there.
This worried me re insurance so I decided to cancel my appointment today and will not drive until it is all sorted (lousy time of year to do so but no point putting it off)

Ooof. Thank you all again for your help x

Mrsjayy · 22/12/2020 15:41

Just checked, my hogmanay dentist appointment is still going to go ahead.

Oh exciting I have s Hogmany kidney scan !

Bikingbear · 22/12/2020 15:41

I just don't know how schools can keep going forward with education.

If they miss another full term surely they have to look at getting kids to resit years but then how do schools find capacity for an extra year of children?

Arkadia · 22/12/2020 15:51

@Mrsjayy, at least we have something to look forward to :D

@Bikingbear, if primary, I don't think it matters at all. Lower secondary is touch and go. Senior secondary is a different kettle of fish entirely.

anon444877 · 22/12/2020 15:58

You never know, in a week some of the panic may recede...

Dinnafashyersel · 22/12/2020 16:09

Arkadia agree only as regards very bright well supported DC. The slack in P4-7 generally allows for some catch up for those lagging behind before secondary. Any DC who are in this category will suffer hugely unless this is addressed. They are also the ones most adversely impacted by lockdown.

DC transitioning from non-existent nursery and patchy P1-3 will also be majorly impacted if they haven't had the usual settling in slack and confidence building before starting on 3Rs.

The same DC also suffer a drop off due to hormones / peer pressure in S1-3.

The current approach is likely to be catastrophic for the attainment gap.

By senior secondary the dye is pretty much cast so given the correct access to curriculum resources and teacher feedback I would consider the educational impact minimal. The messing about with assessments and isolations and lack of consistent curriculum delivery will massively impact this cohort as a whole. Will probably lead to a huge lottery in outcomes and future pathways.

I say all this as someone with a DD3 in P5 who is more or less unaffected educationally and DD1 and DD2 who I consider extremely fortunate to be at Uni where to date remote learning has been functioning extremely well. The Unis are even doing their best to foster social connections in the face of a total lack of forethought or consideration from the Rule Makers.

Happy to report just back from local supermarket and park. General atmosphere is that people are getting on with their life with as little regard as possible for all the absolute nonsense coming at them from all quarters.

RJnomore1 · 22/12/2020 16:10

Schools also been given the go ahead to take 6th jan to get organised so no childcare that day even if you can get it.

Dinnafashyersel · 22/12/2020 16:10

Sorry for the rant but better out than in. Angry

Oliv5 · 22/12/2020 16:11

@Bikingbear I'm thinking the same.

WouldBeGood · 22/12/2020 16:16

No no no to repeating years!! 😱😱

WouldBeGood · 22/12/2020 16:17

Oh my fucking god, that’s a horrific thiught

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 22/12/2020 16:31

Some good news. DFs blood tests all came back clear. No idea why he's losing so much weight and being sick but its not cancer. hurrah.

Also I have an interview in the new year with the SQA. Job looks good although the presentation they want me to deliver has a bit of a tough question considering I've never worked for the SQA before and its only to be a 5 min presentation. Nervous Sad

WouldBeGood · 22/12/2020 16:37

@Iwillneverbesatisfied hurray! And congratulations 🥳

Scottishskifun · 22/12/2020 16:38

For private nursery settings seems to be up to the nursery to decide on if it's 1 or 2 key worker parents. Will be harder to argue with LA settings. Extract from the guidance below

Vulnerable children and children of key workers may continue to access childcare services in nurseries and other childcare providers in accordance with their normal pattern of attendance. This includes:

benefiting from their funded early learning and childcare entitlement
continuing to enjoy privately paid for childcare according to usual demand
Individual nursery and other childcare settings should determine eligibility to continue attending childcare services, and this guidance is provided to aid that decision.

DollyMixtureLulus · 22/12/2020 16:40

That is great news Iwillneverbesatisfied Flowers

If I were in charge, if (please god, no) there is another lockdown they will need to seriously consider

  • class sizes- you cannot close an attainment gap in a class of 30, it's downright impossible
  • official advice re streaming (how much more progress can you make when work is targeted directly at you and not at 6 different groups)
  • presumption of mainstreaming
  • current practice and policy on behaviour and suspension. No more support for learner workers chasing badly behaved children around school. They need to be in class taking groups.

It could be a good thing.

Bikingbear · 22/12/2020 16:42

Smaller classes would be a good start but how do you house them and where do you get teachers from?
