Released from our dirty T4, but still bamboozled. Let’s keep each other sane on here...

It's so frustrating we can't get rid of them.

Bikingbear · 08/12/2020 21:48

@Tomorrowisanewday

Protecting the NHS was the reason behind the £44million Louisa Jordan, wasn't it? It's now being used, but not for COVID patients
Yip it made sense to build it. Nobody wanted to end up with people dying on hospital floors. Although staffing it was always going to be an issue.

I had a dermatology appointment in it. And I'm sure they are using it for other things too. It makes sense to space people out and allow for a bit of social distancing.

@Bytheloch

Feeling for our Edinburgh friends, when you look at the stats there’s absolutely no justification AT ALL for you to be still T3. 🤷‍♀️
I thought it’s just because it would be impossible to police travel between Glasgow (and surrounding areas) and Edinburgh. So it’d just be whack a mole.
WouldBeGood · 09/12/2020 06:25

@PirateCatQueen the problem is though that there are specific criteria set out for each tier - What’s the point of having those if they are meaningless?

WouldBeGood · 09/12/2020 06:26

And I live in the filthy west

runningpink · 09/12/2020 07:03

You can’t keep an area in one tier just because they are close to a higher risk area. That’s not fair. And also goes against what they have outlined in the tier guidelines. It’s an absolute joke.

Mrsjayy · 09/12/2020 07:13

Disappointed we're still in tier 3 as it means still in "movement restrictions" so no Safari Park visit for us and it's a one off Christmas Opening. Nothing really changes that matters and I'm not going to brave the shops unless they're miraculously not even more rammed than normal shopping hell.

Book the Safari park for the 23rd we can go anywhere, but I thought you could go from -to a 3 ?

Dinnafashyersel · 09/12/2020 07:22

Nope you can't go from a t3 to another t3. I double checked yesterday and NS confirmed there were to be no Christmas shopping trips to Glasgow from elsewhere.

This is more restrictive than when we all went into t4. When Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board were in t3 we could all travel throughout the Health Board Area. Now we are in the ridiculous situation where most people will be travelling into and out of the various Glasgow suburbs for work but are prohibited from doing so for leisure.

Honestly doubt the decision to keep Edinburgh in t3 is political. The decision is bound to lose the SNP votes there and also seats. However I don't think it will create gains elsewhere. If Edinburgh had been moved down then Glaswegians would still vote SNP and stretch the "exceptions" to the maximum for a wee day out.

Mrsjayy · 09/12/2020 07:30

Urgh thats such a pain in the arse. I thought you could go between tiers.

Dinnafashyersel · 09/12/2020 07:40

I know MrsJay. I can walk between different local authorities, but unless my "papers are in order" it's prohibited. My bro lives a couple of miles along the road from me - literally the same road. If we happen to cross the border for an "essential shop" and bump into each other that is fine. If we arrange to meet in the 2 local parks either side of the border that is not.

Bikingbear · 09/12/2020 07:46

It wouldn't bother me so much if you could travel freely within T3. But the nonsense that the manky shire people can't go shopping in Glasgow, or see a SD Glasgow santa.

I too had dreams of seeing a SD lion but no trip to Safari park or Zoo for me, DH can't get 23rd off.

My heads still spinning on how to manage Christmas and Birthdays. I'm actually really peeved that I'm even having to think about it. I don't really want to say "No" to the ILs but neither PIL or BIL bothered with DD1 birthday in February but both think they can take the opportunity to visit in the 5 days because of bubbles, not quite getting the idea that one bubble three households not every household visiting two others.

Mrsjayy · 09/12/2020 07:47

Just meet your brother in the morrisons cafe by accident Grin I think I'm surrounded by tier 2s but they won't be able to come into Stirling for Christmas Shopping

AvoidingDM · 09/12/2020 07:48

Your allowed to travel 5miles across the council borders to exercise. In theory its legal for my DMum to meet me in a park near me but shes too far away from the boundary for me to go to a park near her but the actually risk is no different.
Mrsjayy · 09/12/2020 07:49

not that it matters nobody can travel any way!

RaspberryCoulis · 09/12/2020 07:51

@Rae36

I'm Edinburgh, we're not going to get moved down this side of Christmas no matter how few cases we have. Not a chance. I could cry for all the restaurants and bars who have tried so hard and got nowhere. Total fucking pile of shit.
I agree with this. Those of us who are now in Tier 3 are going no further. She did say that the decisions she makes about tiers on next tuesday 15th will remain in place for at least two weeks as the changes kick in on the Friday, and the Friday after that is Christmas day.

She's made it VERY clear that she's only relaxing rules over CHristmas because she's felt forced into it, partly because of what Boris did, partly because she knows a lot of people will think fuck it and just do it anyway. Next week the statement will all be about keeping us safe, avoiding a January surge, a "cautious approach". The graph someone linked to upthread showing the cases per 100k and the tiers just shows they're making it up as they go along.

RaspberryCoulis · 09/12/2020 07:55

@WouldBeGood

Though I think her husband likes them
I had heard the same thing, @WouldBeGood.
Bytheloch · 09/12/2020 08:11

It’s amazing how many can’t make our own risk assessment and need Queen Nic to tell us where we can and cannot go🤷‍♀️

For all those businesses who are ‘covid safe’ at their own expense, not to be trusted to serve those who are happy to take ‘a risk’. Why not let the businesses choose how many they can manage to serve and still stay ‘safe’? (For want of a better word than ‘safe’)

What’s the point in having criteria for a tier if it’s not flexed up or down when it meets that standard? Apparently the cabinet decided yesterday morning about Edinburgh, in particular- the McCabinet! What a joke. Who was fighting for our local and national economy in that meeting? Who was referring to the tiers in their decision making? Oh to have been a fly on the bookshelf of that zoom call with the lily-livered cabinet, as the queen ‘telt’ them how it was to be...

In a better world, I’d agree.

In that world, people would be just fully following the rules in their tiers, not looking for loopholes or escape routes. That’s not the reality sadly.

For example, legislation on travel had to be brought in so that rules on travel between tiers could be enforced.

If Edinburgh went to tier 2 just now, it’d be absolute scenes in as little time as it takes to get from Queen Street to Waverley. Especially at this time of year. Total carnage.

icedaisy · 09/12/2020 08:25

So just moved to T1. BUT still no indoor meeting? Really? I'm sure that was ok before, two households. Apparently not. Well only Shetland etc.

Mrsjayy · 09/12/2020 08:31

Thats ridiculous what's the difference ?

icedaisy · 09/12/2020 08:33

@Mrsjayy I have no idea! Pubs can open a bit more and soft play. I just can't believe it. Want to go to mums for cuppa!

rookiemere · 09/12/2020 08:37

@PirateCatQueen but the travel distance between Glasgow and Edinburgh existed before Tiers were brought in, as did human nature.

I don't even care so much about the alcohol and opening hours - though I feel awful for the business owners- but it would be nice for DH to be able to play tennis with his pal in North Berwick and not to be so restricted when we've surely earned more by being "good" and getting our numbers down Hmm. Actually the whole thing is spurious anyway- hence why it's a mistake and she should just say so and treat the Central Belt as one, preferably with an apology for getting our hopes up.

Mrsjayy · 09/12/2020 08:37

I bet it is to do with travelling between tiers or maybe countries if you are in the borders, still ridiculous though.
