Released from our dirty T4, but still bamboozled. Let’s keep each other sane on here...

Because Nik sees alcohol as the root of all problems. She hates alcohol!
Lowering the drive limit, minimum pricing, no offers, no points, all the covid restrictions.
Someone also mentioned on here a desire to follow a Scandinavian (possibly Norwegian) model of alcohol only being allowed to be sold in government owned off licences that aren't open at the weekend.

The trouble is, the people will alcohol issues will find an alternative...not so easy to control...bit like old dog licence only responsible dog owners had them.

titsbumfannythelot · 08/12/2020 19:46

The Covid restrictions will have created much more alcohol abuse, in my book.

FreshFreesias · 08/12/2020 19:49

Wee Jimmy is completely out of control and I have no idea why people stand by and allow her to destroy livelihoods and entire industries.

Bikingbear · 08/12/2020 19:53

Possibly but the people with a serious reliance on it are the sort who are likely to turn to black market, home brew or drugs that then becomes uncontrollable.

I believe stuff can only be suppressed so far. Before people fine their ways around it.

Even if she does magnanimously decide to move Edinburgh to Tier 2, it won't take effect until the Friday 18th December, so a bit late at that point for restaurant owners to capitalise on the change. Not that she has any intention of lowering it anyway.

Good to hear of someone actually getting the vaccine. I'm pinning my hopes on that now to get us out of this straight jacket life.

Bytheloch · 08/12/2020 19:55

Labour MSP on Twitter saying that public health officials advice was to lower Edinburgh to level 2.
They can’t get any clarification on why this advice was not followed.

Lots of things are slipping aren’t they...I’ve found SNP government’s glacial pace on animal welfare has been buried under this pandemic too. In England and Wales it’s going to be illegal for live animal exports for slaughter. In 2018 Fergus Ewing stated that the SNP government would not support this but now they are having a consultation (they love their consultations don’t they!).
Also, from 1st July 2021 all abattoirs in Scotland will have cctv installed in all areas where there are live animals, just three and a bit years after England. Yes all hopefully going in the right direction but could do much better in my book. Makes me wonder what else they are doing.

SymbollocksInteractionism · 08/12/2020 20:03

I lurk on these threads (hello everyone!)
I'm in Fife and predictably still in tier 3. I am so pissed off for folks in Edinburgh though!
Feeling scunnered with the whole thing now, had enough of this pish.
Sick and tired with people going on about others 'breaking the rules'
I don't think I know anyone who has stuck to the rules 100%. It is almost impossible!

Bikingbear · 08/12/2020 20:04

The smacking one, the hate crime bill, other stuff is getting pushed under the radar.

Jodri · 08/12/2020 20:05

Talking of public health, I think it would have been good to hear from our public health minister MSP Joe Fitzpatrick at some point during this public health emergency. Maybe a blinked and missed him.

suggestionsplease1 · 08/12/2020 20:06

It's crazy that at this point in time no attempt to create definitive rules for the tier introduction / numbering system has been made.

This should have been a priority (I do acknowledge it is hard). But this approach has had no opportunity for public scrutiny, it is far too open to abuse of power and whim of individual decision.

It's shameful that decision-making continues in this fashion, behind closed doors and in whispered discussions; this is not a democratic period in our history.

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/12/2020 20:09

there are, they just haven't followed them in the slightest.

suggestionsplease1 · 08/12/2020 20:09

Ah ok, well maybe that is even more shameful!

Oh we DID hear from him last week- he stood in for wee Jeane I think, he’s utterly appalling, had to refer to his notes. No wonder Nicola doesn’t let him out to play (in the media traffic) very often.

So, story we were sold was about protecting the NHS - have a look at the figures and see how close they are to being overwhelmed.

It's a bit like Animal Farm isn't it, where the commandments are just continually changed to suit the animals in charge.

And that bodes well for us, doesn't it? Hmm

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/12/2020 20:23

Indeed @suggestionsplease1. It's been like the emperor's new clothes for a long time but it's gratifying to find that people are starting to open their eyes a bit more.

I don't think it'll make a difference in May but we can but dream of effective opposition and someone to vote for. I think it's time to look at your area and vote for whoever looks most likely to beat the SNP candidate regardless of their political leanings, I think a message needs to be sent.

Bikingbear · 08/12/2020 20:37

A decent opposition would be good. I hope Nik will be gone by the election.

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/12/2020 20:39

To be replaced by who? None of the rest have got a mind of their own. Spent their entire careers being told what to do and when.

Not that I hope they come up with anyone competent as it suits me for them to fail.

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 08/12/2020 20:50

They will lose seats but will still be the main party I reckon Sad

Tomorrowisanewday · 08/12/2020 20:59

Protecting the NHS was the reason behind the £44million Louisa Jordan, wasn't it? It's now being used, but not for COVID patients

PapsofJura · 08/12/2020 21:00

@WaxOnFeckOff but by May most of us will have had the vaccine, life will be slowly returning back to normal, the weather will be nicer and St Nic will be the saviour of all mankind 🙄

WaxOnFeckOff · 08/12/2020 21:15

Oh yes, they will still be main party, all I'm hoping for is that they get a bit less votes overall.

I've no idea who. I just think she'll be burnt out. And I think people are starting to turn against her although she has some pretty diehard fans.
