Released from our dirty T4, but still bamboozled. Let’s keep each other sane on here...

So are silverbutn & braehead absolutely mobbed today?

I read that the Oxford vaccine team had mistakenly thought a particular batch was double strength so they halved the dose then found out after it was the correct titre.

With the regular testing of volunteers and goal of making it easily distributable really highlights the genuine philanthropic approach to help whole populations across the world rather than individuals.

Anyway back to more mundane matters I AM SO PISSED OFF that we in the Glasgow shires that have comparatively low numbers get lumped in with Greater Glasgow due to hospitals yet we can’t go in to Glasgow to shop. We have no shops. (Slight exaggeration).

Dinnafashyersel · 11/12/2020 09:34

I'm not getting that hung up on the Oxford vaccine. Whitty and co already stated 99% of death and healthcare burden dealt with by current Pfizer programme (vulnerable and healthcare). Struggling to see why there would be a "herd immunity" issue beyond that.

My ideal Christmas is just us and the DC so I'm looking forward to it being same as usual. If the rain would stop it would be a big help though.

Dinnafashyersel · 11/12/2020 09:37

I wouldn't be going into town to shop anyway. Buses and trains have been off limits for non-essential journeys longer than I can remember. Every time I venture in with the car they have changed the bus lanes again and I either get hopelessly lost or a ticket.

NotAnActualSheep · 11/12/2020 09:47

@WouldBeGood

I’ll take any old shit to get out.

I am very sick of this.

Yup. I'm beginning to wonder if Trump was really so wrong with his recommendation to inject bleach. That sounds like quite a good option right now.

Speaking of which. Irn Bru. Tried it...it tastes like, um, fizzy fabric conditioner? Is it supposed to taste like that? Wasn't expecting that. This may explain a lot about the Scottish psyche if so...I had no idea.

Happy Tier 3 Friday all you disgusting Tier 4ers. Xmas Grin Don't go crazy with your freedom, now.

Absolutely agree. I am in a Glasgow shire too. My 13 year old DS wants a Hollister hoodie for Christmas. No Hollisters in East Dun. One at Braehead (Renfrewshire), one in Glasgow. There are no department stores in East Dunbartonshire, no large M&S clothes stores, no nothing! The only large retail park is that one at Bishopbriggs, where there's Boots and Next.

Little shops are great and I do usually try to buy local and independent. But it's not always possible. And with so many shops going out of business, vouchers are just way too dodgy.

Bytheloch · 11/12/2020 09:57

sheep One of your 2020 highlights, the year you tried Irn Bru? Fabric conditioner is high praise, I don’t think it tastes of anything🤷‍♀️ But at least you can say you tried it, it took a pandemic to turn youGrin

Yes, the lady boutiques are going to cut it for a teen are they?!

We do try and shop small & local - butchers etc but because I normally work in town I’m really missing my mooches round the the big shops at lunchtime. Not been into the city centre since March! Confused

Bikingbear · 11/12/2020 09:59

🤣🤣🤣🤣
It has a very unique taste, almost impossible to describe but your description actually made me laugh!
Was it Barrs Irn Bru you tried?

Bikingbear · 11/12/2020 10:05

Dinnafash the reason the rest of us need the vaccine, is covid isn't going anywhere. We will eventually become old and susceptible to it. And probably more importantly covid seems to be leaving a large number of younger people with long term damage. With no way of knowing who is going to be ill with it.
The way we have been living for the last 9mths isn't sustainable and is sucking the joy and life out of people.

WouldBeGood · 11/12/2020 10:10

@NotAnActualSheep best description of irn bru 😂😂😂

Dinnafashyersel · 11/12/2020 10:10

But could you taste the girders NotanActualSheep?

We have looked at moving to both ED and ER many times. You lot are really not selling them. What with that and all the curtain twitching if you venture to a lower tier than 3. So much for the exodus to the suburbs due to hankering for the countryside the media were obsessed with in the Summer.

Starting to feel quite content being manky. Make a point of counting how many friends and neighbours I say hello to every day when I step out the front door just to have one over the "experts". I was at 6 by 9am today.

Bytheloch · 11/12/2020 10:12

Dirty 4 lanyard discarded, tier 3 anti bac wipes packed, hairdresser app booked👍🏼
Onwards...

(Btw, Edinburgh Tier pressure on ScotGov hasn’t stopped, might you benefit from a SNPUTURN ™️ - prounounced with a silent N after S - next Tuesday?)

I want to see my mum and dad. I don't want anything else. Feeling really sad today.

We will see them at Christmas but we'll say goodbye on the 27th and that's it for who knows how long.

That's it really, just sad. Happy Friday folks, another week gone

JudgeRindersMinder · 11/12/2020 10:18

Morning! I’m grabbing the last of the sun before I head back to my skanky t3 lair tonight. Fortunately My flight gets in this side of 4am so I won’t get caught up in the quarantine. Then it’s full on Christmas from tomorrow!

Well, yes. Some people learnt a new language, some redecorated their home, others volunteered with food banks to support their community. I tried a new and slightly repulsive fizzy drink. #lifegoals Xmas Grin

That is about all I can manage at the moment, frankly.

It was Barr's, but the sugar free version. Maybe that's where I'm going wrong. But I'd be really pissed off if I'd wasted calories I could have used on wine or cake on that...

I agree on the local shops thing. I've not been into a non food shop since September, I think... just do everything online, which isn't great. End up sending loads back which I wouldn't have to if I'd seen / felt it in the flesh. I just can't face the whole rigmarole of one way systems, sanitisers, masks and so on. And I used to love a good mooch around John Lewis Xmas Sad. I think if you have a particular item in mind, though, that you can only get from one shop that isn't in your council area, that would be an "essential" trip in terms of the guidance, as you can't get it in your local area. Hard to argue that a Hollister hoodie is an essential item to a police officer though, I suppose! (I get scared by that shop...it's always so dark. How can you see what you're buying?!)

Dinnafashyersel · 11/12/2020 10:24

Biking that is to assume that by the time we are old and/or vulnerable we will still be susceptible.

If the vaccine is a one shot deal then it is hard to fathom why natural infection wouldn't also be. If it is not then it is very hard to fathom how we will get to "herd immunity".

I mentioned my friend with 10 family contacts. All but one ended up testing positive. Due to their job they were likely already immune due to prior exposure. I know personally of lots of similar examples. The outbreaks in prisons/factories/military basis seem similar. That points to a natural R of much higher than the models. That means herd immunity threshold close to 100% (not the 70% modelled) - highly unlikely to be achievable through vaccination alone.

Mrsjayy · 11/12/2020 10:25

Tier threeer checking in, not planning much till Monday then I'll go town im fed up of the Hermes mans face I want a mooch in the shops. Sent Dd to work this morning with a godspeed Grin

Bikingbear · 11/12/2020 10:28

Hollister - I never go in it. For long enough I thought it was a pub.

Hard to argue essential. But was there not some comment that Santa was still allow to work??? Its pushing it a bit but....Mr PC Plod might think your daft....

Bytheloch · 11/12/2020 10:28

@Rae36 FlowersCakeWine
Another week done. Are you able to see them for walks or outdoor at all, or do they not live close enough? I’m more of the thinking that if you’ve formed a bubble with them anyway, why do you need to say goodbye on the 27?🤷‍♀️ Because the dentist says so? Do your own risk assessment, if you’ve been together for those days already, what would significantly change on the 28th...?

I’m not advocating putting your parents under any pressure to ‘break rules’, but it’s worth thinking about- the alternative of feeling sad is not nice for anyone.

Don't really understand sugar free. I either stick to water or treat myself to the real thing.

The only Irn Bru worth having is the retro authentic recipe one. The shelves were cleared the minute it first appeared in my local supermarket.

WouldBeGood · 11/12/2020 10:29

I’ve bought the DPD man and the postie Christmas sweets as a thank you for their daily efforts since lockdown one 😂

Bikingbear · 11/12/2020 10:32

The vaccines are all two shots, 3 or 4 weeks apart. Immunity taking effect about a week after the second injection.

I do agree that more people have had covid than they think.

Mrsjayy · 11/12/2020 10:34

aww our post man is a gem I always get him a box of sweets.

NotAnActualSheep · 11/12/2020 10:40

But could you taste the girders NotanActualSheep?

Only if the girders had been ground up and doused in some floral concoction.

rae Flowers Yes, me too. Xmas Sad They are fine, and coping with it all better than me I think. But I haven't seen them since October (and that was an illicit trip to a restaurant before they all closed down) and I miss them... phone calls are tricky as my mums a bit deaf, but ends up talking over dad, and then they start bickering at each other.. Xmas Confused Not very satisfactory for anyone... Roll on 24th...

judge Well, that was well timed! Hope you've had a lovely time and are refreshed for your return to the plague- pit of Scotland.

NotAnActualSheep · 11/12/2020 10:44
