I'm wondering if they had nothing better to do whether they actually might challenge folk on the 4 going into 3 or 2

According to a fairly reliable friend, there was a police roadblock checking people leaving Angus (3) and entering Aberdeenshire (2) and vice versa the other day. Most people I know do their shopping in Montrose so I can imagine there are a lot of people "sneaking" over the border.

I do wonder what's more risky though...my usual 10 minute run around Lidl or the hour I spent in Costco followed by a trip to McDonald's. Big difference in cost too.

Bikingbear · 22/11/2020 18:00

Dino did friend actually see it or get stopped?

The army in Strathclyde park thing was like an urban myth and so many people were repeating it both verbally and via Facebook. Then others would add a yard to the end of it.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 22/11/2020 18:01

Dino did friend actually see it or get stopped?

Yes. She was on her way to work.

40weekswithno2 · 22/11/2020 18:04

@Dinnafashyersel

Thanks very much. That's bloody shocking. And here I am worried about having my mum in to hold my new baby while I have a shower once he's born or doing the nursery run for my older ds.

Bikingbear · 22/11/2020 18:09

OMG Dino that's awful. But I also imagine it's easier to police in Aberdeenshire.

40weeks if your Central Belt it will be almost impossible to police. How can they stop people on the motorways?

She only lives a 10 minute drive away but hasn't been in the house since start of September when we were told no in house socialising.

Bikingbear · 22/11/2020 18:30

But people are allowed to provide 'care' define care? If you and children need care you need care.

If she gets stopped "I'm going to care for my DGC. My DD is struggling with a new baby and recovering from the birth and having toddler. I'm really worried about her MH too and getting PND"

How can anybody argue if the care she is providing meets the requirements Confused

anon444877 · 22/11/2020 19:00

Have you seen the bbc news re additional bubbles at Christmas? Good news for people that do have family they can spend Christmas with - I'd like to take my bubble allowance and spend it on flying to the canaries instead!

AgentCooper · 22/11/2020 19:05

We drove with 3 year old DS to Cuningar Loop in Rutherglen today, crossing the boundaries of East Ren, Glasgow AND North Lanarkshire as the satnav is a dufus. Can confirm no armed police chased us at any point. And DH was down in Irvine dropping off food for his dad so we can add North Ayrshire to today’s tally too. The West of Scotland is not a big place.

Pootle40 · 22/11/2020 19:10

Just travelled from Fife to City of Edinburgh. Normal traffic. Busy restaurant - was fab.

Bytheloch · 22/11/2020 19:22

All four nations have decided how we can spend Christmas- up to four families inside? Obviously things might have been better for everyone if they’d put aside political differences before now🙄
Makes a mockery of our current lockdown for all the businesses impacted- particularly the hospitality industry- who’ll probably also be the first to be closed back down by Hogmanay for ‘spreading the virus at Christmas’ even though it will be rife from families mixing.
Does this confirm that we’re currently restricted here in a T4 purely to give people a Christmas and some nice festive headlines for government?

Wow also to the proposal of a ‘freedom’ pass if you take two (negative results) tests per week...for anyone who doesn’t immediately get a hideous shiver down their spine at even the mention of a freedom pass, needs to have a very strong word with themselves.

Matilda2013 · 22/11/2020 19:40

@bytheloch I'd love to know how you could even manage to get two negative tests a week. My mum works in a care home and barely manages to get her test result each week before the next one is taken!

WouldBeGood · 22/11/2020 19:54

I’m really fucked of with this.

They’re going to use it to justify more fucking lockdown either side.

Had enough

WouldBeGood · 22/11/2020 20:00

*off

Bikingbear · 22/11/2020 20:03

They have agreed the 4 nations need one set of rules but I think the detail needs to be agreed.

rookiemere · 22/11/2020 20:12

It sounds reasonable in principle and it would be really sensible for a change to have aligned thinking across the UK, but I do
wonder if the joint agreement will include people travelling between England and Scotland?

All very well to allow people to bubble, but I have relatives in England with a terminally ill granny in Scotland.

Bikingbear · 22/11/2020 20:13

40weeks I'd even consider having your mum round to "care" for you and DC in your later weeks when your DH is out, ie heavily pregnant and caring for a young child is hard work. Heavily pregnant your tired and need to rest but toddlers. The key is it Care not a mear Social visit.

Bikingbear · 22/11/2020 20:15

Yes they will allow cross border travel, that's the whole point of one set of rules.

Check too the exceptions for terminally ill people. There was something said but I can't remember what.

AgentCooper · 22/11/2020 20:19

Oh God, they’re wanting to do a football in the trenches moment for Christmas, aren’t they? When the guns stopped and the Germans and Brits had lovely Christmas kick about? And our benevolent leaders will forever be remembered as the heroes who gave us a wartime Christmas. That is exactly what they’re after, bugger all the business which collapse along the way.

Were any of the play areas closed?

Oh, Christ, yes exactly!

I’m now singing the truly excruciating Pipes of Peace... for you youngsters it is a spectacularly bad paul McCartney song and the video is that exact “heartwarming” scene you describe

AgentCooper · 22/11/2020 20:36

@Rhumba it was our first visit so I can’t speak from experience but it all seemed to be open.

@WouldBeGood exactly Grin want to bet we get a Queen’s Speech of our own from Nicola on Christmas Day, at which point we should all gather round the telly and be grateful?

WouldBeGood · 22/11/2020 20:40

Oh, dear god, @AgentCooper, I’m still nauseous from the fun in the trenches

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 22/11/2020 20:51

How many people have enough space indoors to fit 4 families without people being squashed up together. Passing the roses tin around, sharing one bathroom - numbers are going to go nuts and there is a high chance of increased deaths. Surely no one wants to risk that?

Disclaimer: I'm pretty laid back, generally, but multi generational mixing, in small, confined places, can't possibly end well.

WouldBeGood · 22/11/2020 20:54

@icanboogieboogiewoogie it would be so much safer if hospitality could open and host family gatherings.
