If they close schools early they will make us pay the days back. Probably by taking it off summer. I really don't think there's any need for a relaxing of the rules at Christmas. If schools close early half of Glasgow will descend on Silverburn etc, with DC in tow. People won't stay home. If they've not done so so far - I really don't think December 21st is going to be the time to start following the rules.

littlbrowndog · 22/11/2020 14:20

Yeah I don’t get it

You can’t afford to get lashe£ in a restaurant as the wine costs so much

But it’s really nice to have a glass of wine with your lunch or dinner when you are out

Why is it such a bad thing ? In the eyes of my government.

It’s like they don’t trust us. Controlling us. Like we are children

Bikingbear · 22/11/2020 14:22

Its really weird, I've a family friend who's shouted about them being communists for years.
The named person and the GIRFEC and the other Shanni or what ever it is for kids, just seemed to open my eyes to how worrying they actually are.

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/11/2020 14:29

I feel really sad for our DC (this control thing really is the way the whole world is going) but I guess the saving grace is that they wont know any better.

I meet up with a group of friends twice a year (we all worked together or worked with some of each other at one point but only a couple of us still do) anyway, we last met in September 19, were due to meet in March (obvs cancelled) delayed it and delayed it, missed September again as still not allowed to meet. There are usually 8-10 of us eac h time and there is no prospect of that every being possible under the current tier system.

I'm starting to understand where the support for the USA 2nd amendment comes from as it's not necessarily about guns for a lot of folks, it's about your freedom and I guess initially it was so that private citizens could form an army if the government implemented too much control and infringed their rights and they could therefore basically take the government down.

I still don't think the guns are required but the spirit of the amendment probably is something that is a good thing. Voting is only useful if the opposition are offering something different.

Dinnafashyersel · 22/11/2020 14:31

I agree icanboogie. If anything closing schools early gives more scope for people to travel further afield for meet ups which is entirely the opposite of intention. In fact would argue keeping kids in school is one of the best ways to structure people to keep local. (I'm old enough to remember my Dad working on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day)

Also noticed another thread arguing for extended post Christmas school holiday to get rid of any bugs before going back. Hard not to see an agenda...

anon444877 · 22/11/2020 14:41

Cripes isn't the January bit long enough already? I hate January enough without the holidays being added to! At least in summer there's a chance of sun!

The travel ban is the latest and worst in a long line of govt incursions.

I remember when dd was 5 she came home with a leaflet from school where we were supposed to sign and say she lived in a smoke free home and I binned it as none of the govt's business. Just like constantly being grilled on breastfeeding intentions when pg, it's all none of their business and all a bit smothering. (I bf and I do not smoke).

If we did smoke, what good would making us feel our dc's school was judging us do?

WouldBeGood · 22/11/2020 14:50

@littlbrowndog this is what I truly loathe

Dinnafashyersel · 22/11/2020 15:09

wax I lived in the US for a couple of years and came home because I didn't want to raise my DC in a gun owning culture. Shows you where we are that I agree with you.

How long will the current authoritarianism will be tolerated? I can see a domino process to reversing, just as there was with lockdown. This is why I remain hopeful that politicians are judging the timing rather than intending to persist.

Dinnafashyersel · 22/11/2020 15:20

And while we're all fretting about the odd illicit trip to the shops in the next tier it turns out hospitals are still discharging Covid positive patients to care homes... (per BBC Politics Scotland interview)

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/11/2020 15:39

We have family in the states (with guns!)

But I'm not condoning gun ownership and although the cat is very much out of the bag over there in terms of guns, they could maybe do something about the ability to buy ammunition? I mean you can construct your own gun with a 3d printer but it's a bit harder to get the stuff/make bullets I think.

Anyway, I was more thinking about a metaphorical right to bear arms but have no idea what form that would take. I think the USA are going the same way as a lot of places with the control. I definitely sit left of centre but at the moment, the far left seems as much a dangerous place as the far right. I think i'm a dinosaur maybe, hankering after something that never existed?

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 22/11/2020 16:19

@diplodocusinermine

We're in Tier 2 and local hotel has had family parties of several people in for lunches and early dinners who have travelled from Glasgow, so the travel ban is obviously working. Not. Hmm

I've just bumped into one of my clients from Glasgow in Dunfermline B&M's - he must've sneaked over Kincardine bridge though as there are reports of border patrol at the Queensferry Crossing all over our local FB group Hmm

40weekswithno2 · 22/11/2020 16:19

@Dinnafashyersel can you give me a link to the interview or tell me where I can watch it? X

MissEliza · 22/11/2020 16:24

@WaxOnFeckOff

It's all about control, communistic level of control. And once you see it you can't un-see it.

I usually get shit on here for airing that view but you are 100% correct.

The fact is that some people like that control, they've been gaslighted to believe that they aren't able to decide things for themselves and that the SNP are benevolent parent figures trying to take their worries away from them. There are obviously some intelligent supporters and that somehow seems to make it worse. I'm sad how easily people have bought into the narrative and seem so keen to give their rights away for reasons that are not given proper transparency.

As for the folk that just repeating the rules as if they are a magic wand on forums and fb and other SM, these are the people that the nazis would have handed a badge to and made them street monitors.

@WaxOnFeckOff what a fantastic post particularly your last paragraph.
Dinnafashyersel · 22/11/2020 16:31

Saw the quote on Christine Jardine's twitter (Chris Musson (he has a proper audit trail) and Monica Lennon also tweeting about it). Would have been BBC Politics Scotland this morning. I am too scunnered to actually sit through any of their excuse note interviews.

40weekswithno2 · 22/11/2020 16:34

@Dinnafashyersel thanks, I'm not on Twitter but I'll try to find the interview

Bikingbear · 22/11/2020 16:40

Natasha I wondered why he bothered B&M are classed as essential.

The FB rumours are amazing the folk that make them up must have a right good laugh. Remember half the west was convinced the army were camping out in Strathclyde park just before the first lockdown Grin

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/11/2020 16:43

So, if these "border controls" are actually in existence, how far do we think they will go to verify someone's claim of exemption? There are so many that I'm guessing you could be "travelling for a funeral" and would they ask who's and actually check that the name you give is someone who has died in the area you are travelling to? Or a christening, or for work etc etc?

I mean you are really not going to say that you are going to have a browse about the shops or want to go for lunch etc. are you?

Bikingbear · 22/11/2020 16:49

Having crossed the border between North and South Lanarkshire twice yesterday I can confirm I never saw any border patrol.

Exactly it's verging on impossible for them to police it. Define 'Essential', define at what point Mental Health becomes 'essential'.

Couple of years ago DS had a Santa t-shirt "define good?"

NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 22/11/2020 16:59

Natasha I wondered why he bothered B&M are classed as essential.

He had already been to our high street & was then heading to the retail park in Kirkcaldy.

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/11/2020 17:06

Having crossed the border between North and South Lanarkshire twice yesterday I can confirm I never saw any border patrol.

That's 4 to 4 though so I guess no fucks are being given.

I'm wondering if they had nothing better to do whether they actually might challenge folk on the 4 going into 3 or 2?

DS still thinking of coming from his level 2 to our 4 to pick up a car. Coming down he has the right to travel and he would only have a single train ticket, going back he'd obviously be going from 4, via 3 and back to 2 (without stopping).

Apart from the fact we've all already had it, he is living with girlfriend, has no face to face lectures and isn't going out and been getting shopping delivered. So basically no risk. He just fancies the car to make coming home at Christmas easier and he and Gf can travel together. He might also decide not to bother...:o

Bikingbear · 22/11/2020 17:09

Natasha you know what I really can't fault him. And you can bet he won't be alone. That's why England and Wales both opted for National Lockdown.

Interesting points @WaxOnFeckOff sends a slight shiver through me thoughSad Just feeling it a bit this weekend.

Unfortunately you can also 3D print bullets.

Once the culture moves towards arming it is very hard to put back in the box - bit like surrendering freedom to the State otoh.

WouldBeGood · 22/11/2020 17:40

@Dinnafashyersel that is truly scandalous. They’re sitting ducks. Just awful
