Just double checked from earlier.

Scottish Labour MSPs opposed the travel ban along with Oliver Mundell and Michelle Ballantyne (Con) and Mike Rumbles (LibDem).

Turns out there are some sane MSPs - just they never get a hearing as per usual.

WouldBeGood · 20/11/2020 16:33

@Tomorrowisanewday yes, great speech. Sensible ! I’m impressed

anon444877 · 20/11/2020 16:36

I see the bad old tories in England are managing to control the infection without resorting to legal restrictions on freedom of movement...

Bikingbear · 20/11/2020 16:36

Thanks goodness for some sane MSPs.
I really hope that SNP get kicked out in May. They've had too much power for far too long.

NotAnActualSheep · 20/11/2020 16:38

Neil Findlay seems ok on Twitter/ actually speaks out and seems pretty sensible

Shame he's a total arse on all other subjects, really. Grin (sorry, personal gripe...bad experience)

AgentCooper · 20/11/2020 16:38

Just heard on radio 4 that cases are still going down in Scotland and England and the R number has dropped again. But Tier 4, here we fuckin go.

NotAnActualSheep · 20/11/2020 16:41

@Tomorrowisanewday

Nicola Sturgeon said at today's briefing that all areas would have the reassessment of their tier announced on the 11th.
Noooooo! We're stuck in level 3 forever, regardless of our numbers, aren't we...? "3 week period" my bottom.

@anon444877- wash your mouth out! 😂
Callisto1 · 20/11/2020 16:45

Well in England everything is shut everywhere so you don't need the trave restrictions as much. The trouble we have here now is that some places have much more stuff open than others. Wish they'd held off with tier 4. It seems to be slowly getting better even without it.

WouldBeGood · 20/11/2020 16:48

@Callisto1 yes. It’s most annoying. Maybe she’ll surprise us and cancel it...?

Bikingbear · 20/11/2020 17:07

Wouldbegood - Cancel it really would be good but that involves a U turn. And what's the benefit to her?

Obviously there's benefit to people but she's only interested in her.

BlueThursday · 20/11/2020 17:09

I’ll need to check on the Argos/Sainsbury’s thing. I only know of a Sainsbury’s in Kirkintilloch and not sure it has an Argos but if it does then good call thanks

Bikingbear · 20/11/2020 17:12

BlueThursday, there are Sainsbury's with Argos in Hamilton, East Kilbride and Strathaven if that helps.

BlueThursday · 20/11/2020 17:12

By pre-paid online orders only does that mean ore-paid before lockdown or you can pay and collect? Too much for my end of week mind to digest Blush

BlueThursday · 20/11/2020 17:13

But can I go to those ones being outside my LA? I think I need step by step instructions Grin

dementedpixie · 20/11/2020 17:18

You pay in advance online then go and collect. Some standalone stores are open too outwith Sainsburys

BlueThursday · 20/11/2020 17:29

That’s better then. I thought just ones paid for before lockup

WaxOnFeckOff · 20/11/2020 17:31

So the weekly reviews happened what, once? And then not for 3 weeks, even though the first one was a fortnight.

Christmasbiscuit · 20/11/2020 17:32

@AgentCooper

Just heard on radio 4 that cases are still going down in Scotland and England and the R number has dropped again. But Tier 4, here we fuckin go.
So it will continue to drop, will they use it an excuse to say tier 4 is working and keep us there? Hmm never thought I'd miss tier 3...
Rankellior · 20/11/2020 17:38

@WaxOnFeckOff

I’ve just looked at the SG website and it says next review on 24th so I really hope they actually use that to look at the data and make decisions based on that rather than rolling over all levels for 3 weeks. Although I assume they won’t hesitate to move a level up in that time?
S00LA · 20/11/2020 17:48

For Argos you just buy online and collect in any small local Sainsbury’s. If they are in stock you can collect them tomorrow, otherwise it’s usually a couple of days.

I think you can return items by post. To return in store it has to be a bigger store with an Argos.

Or just pay for delivery - it’s worth it if you have a big order.

WouldBeGood · 20/11/2020 18:01

If she cancels it I’ll vote for her 😂😂

Bytheloch · 20/11/2020 18:05

Cheers to 6pm, T4 is officially open 🥂

Apologies as I'm skim reading. Re Emily Oster and libraries quarantining books - the evidence suggests that the virus does not persist on paper/card/organic material however most library books are covered with plastic covers. The evidence does suggest that the virus does persist longer on plastic hence the quarantining.

While I agree the evidence also suggests that the amount of virus remaining on plastic is very little/ not likely to be a risk we have a duty of care to staff many of whom had concerns about both their own safety and those of vulnerable family members.

Libraries are not the quiet place many assume - our regular clientele includes (as once described to me early in my career) life's flotsam and jetsam who's hygiene habits frequently leave quite a lot to be desired.

Re First Minister's Reading Challenge- this has been on the go for around 4 years now. While I am no fan of NS she does have a commitment to encouraging reading This is primarily run through the schools and there are rewards for both individual children and for schools. It is administered by Scottish Book Trust who also manage Book Week Scotland ( which was this week) and the Bookbug programme.
