Neil Findlay (at 18:07) speaks about why he wasn't supporting this

NotAnActualSheep · 20/11/2020 11:43

OK, it looks like they're going to amend the existing "local levels" regulations, but they haven't yet. There's draft business and equalities impacts assessments here for anyone as sad as I am

I haven't been wearing a face covering for drop off/ pick up. It is really easy to stay more than 2m from anyone else in the grounds at our school, and I'm an antisocial bastard so tend to stand away from the main cluster of people anyway. If I need to hand something to a teacher, or go to speak to anyone, I put one on. I know Swinney said you should wear one for drop off, but the wording of the actual guidance, rather than the mangling of any policy that seems to emerge from all ministers' mouths at the moment clearly links it to "places outdoors where it is difficult to socially distance, such as at school drop off..." which obviously doesn't always apply. I'm not sure why I'm so stubborn on this tbh...I can wear masks and it doesn't particularly bother me physically to do so. It just feels like total safety theatre to wear one in a howling gale when I'm standing at least 4 m away from anyone to meet DS. And I hate them in principle and want them to FOTTFSOF as soon as possible, basically. Also, I follow the designated one way system which now seems to be optional, even though that does make a bit of sense to me to stop potential bottlenecks, so not sure why the mask thing seems to have been taken on board so universally and the one way thing roundly ignored.

AgentCooper · 20/11/2020 11:51

Having a massive fucking cry this morning. Today I’ll be going for my last swim until whenever, can’t take the wee one to the beach at the weekend, it’s pissing down Monday and Tuesday and now our usual wee trot round TK Maxx at Silverburn is off the cards. I just feel like the last straws of a semi normal life are out the window now.

Arseholes on Facebook posting things like ‘if going into tier 4 is a big difference for you then you’re the reason we need to do it.’ Well no, DH has been driving through to Irvine lots to see his very ill dad in hospital (when he was finally allowed to) and now that’s illegal. Fuck off.

Dinnafashyersel · 20/11/2020 11:54

I am lucky because DD3 is old enough to be dropped off halfway along the road to school - getting further away each day.

When masks in the playground were first advised there were a few parents wearing them on the way, especially if they were going into the local shops en route. Not seen any parents in masks in the last week or so.

The secondary kids are all very much at the "wearing under sufferance" stage rather than "embracing the new normal" attitude they had in September.

Dinnafashyersel · 20/11/2020 11:56

Otoh I am seeing more and more people out and about on deserted streets during the day with their mask on.

NotAnActualSheep · 20/11/2020 11:56

I'm so sorry agentcooper Flowers It is all shit. Especially given the weather at the moment. However the visit to hospital is fine. The exceptions include "travel to visit a person receiving treatment in a hospital, staying in a hospice or care home, or to accompany a pregnant woman, vulnerable person or child to a medical appointment" so at least that is something.

AgentCooper · 20/11/2020 12:01

@NotAnActualSheep thank you Flowers FIL is actually getting out today so I’m assuming it’ll still be ok for DH to see him at home because to be honest he’s been told FIL won’t make it through the night numerous times in the past few months. Obviously he always has done but he wants to be with his dad as much as possible. Things were just starting to feel a bit easier and less claustrophobic and now this.

S00LA · 20/11/2020 12:04

@runningpink

Any of you who are braving Ikea this weekend if you happen to notice if they have any information about how they will be doing the real Christmas Trees this year I would appreciate the heads up. Assuming that they are still doing them this year that is. I’m hoping we can just pay outdoors rather than having to go inside but I’m not very hopeful
Ikea are not closing - apparently they are essential.

Though of course you may not be able to travel there.

WaxOnFeckOff · 20/11/2020 12:26

Ikea don't need to close as they are in Midlothian and therefore tier2.

S00LA · 20/11/2020 12:27

Ikea Glasgow are not closing either . They are in tier 4 .

WaxOnFeckOff · 20/11/2020 12:36

what council area is ikea glasgow in? Agree they will be saying essential as sell food and furniture :) Just wondering if they technically have a small (legal) audience also.

RaspberryCoulis · 20/11/2020 12:37

Ikea and the rest of Braehead is in Renfrewshire.

anon444877 · 20/11/2020 12:40

Has anyone figured out if you're allowed to click and collect in tier 4 yet?

WaxOnFeckOff · 20/11/2020 12:41

Ikea Edinburgh or Glasgow is eaksy peaksy distance from me but the deciding factor is usually if we want Costco. Glasgow costco much closer to me but in Edinburgh it's next to Ikea.

So i suppose it's really the other way around. if we only want costco it's Glasgow we would go to.

WaxOnFeckOff · 20/11/2020 12:42

@anon444877

Has anyone figured out if you're allowed to click and collect in tier 4 yet?
Yes apparently you are, i saw it somewhere official but can't remember where. I think it's equivalent to going in for takeaway?
anon444877 · 20/11/2020 12:48

So a lot of shops like John Lewis will do that IF you can still travel there for the collection...

S00LA · 20/11/2020 12:55

Joh Lewis also do free click and collect to Waitrose stores.

Dinnafashyersel · 20/11/2020 13:05

According to Glasgowlive IKEA Braehead are still open (covered by homewear and hardwear "essential" category - they seem not to realise Braehead is NOT in Glasgow just like Glasgow airport. Garden Centres are still open so, despite statements to the contrary, a trip to Dobbies at Braehead on the way home is also an option.

If you want a real rule breaking illicit barnstormer from North of the river then head out to IKEA via the Erskine Bridge and home via the Clyde tunnel.

runningpink · 20/11/2020 13:13

Oh sorry I knew Ikea would still be open.

It was more I want sure if they would do the real trees this year as queues are always massive and right by the door.

And you normally have to go in store to pay but I was hoping they would allow it outdoors like they used to do as would be easier.

I absolutely hate masks, I get myself into a state wearing them so only go places if I really really really need too. Not sure I would manage going into Ikea but I really want my tree so might try and build myself up for it.

WaxOnFeckOff · 20/11/2020 13:17

There are usually loads of places that set up outdoor christmas tree selling, our local round table does it.

littlbrowndog · 20/11/2020 13:27

Morrison’s Edinburgh has 5-6foot nordman xmas trees for 18£

NotAnActualSheep · 20/11/2020 13:52

Glad your FIL is coming out of hospital agent - that's great news! Yes, travelling to provide care or assistance to a vulnerable person is allowed too, so that will be fine to see him at home - as he's definitely vulnerable and your DH will be providing care.

Ah, if IKEA is "essential" on the grounds that they have food, then you can surely travel there from wherever you live for "essential" shopping. They have loads of food there that you can't get anywhere locally as it's IKEA branded, or rather obscure. So you can go there and buy a box of their oaty biscuits or daim bars (no one can say you could get those essentials somewhere else locally) and pick up as many pansies and cushions as you want while you're there as well. Sorted.

I've never been to costco. Am I missing out?

anon444877 · 20/11/2020 13:54

For anyone that likes to follow research, Emily oster is tweeting about libraries quarantining books and how nonsensical that is based on the data on surface transmission.

runningpink · 20/11/2020 13:55

The local ones to me are around the £50-60 mark which I can’t justify.
whereas at Ikea they are around £35 and you get a £20 voucher back to spend instore in the February.

I hadn’t thought about the supermarkets I will check the local ones. Thanks for the suggestion.

WaxOnFeckOff · 20/11/2020 13:58

Depends what kind of stuff you like to buy. We only go every couple of months and stick up stuff like meat and fish, cleaning stuff, juice, kitchen and toilet roll etc but in normal times it's a place you can get lost in as it has clothes and books and general house stuff and electronics and booze and lovely cheese and meat etc as well as toiletries, shoes etc. If you are not very local then you do need to have storage space for stuff.

Huge slices of pizza etc in the cafe and often have wee tasting counters spread about but not so much at the moments
