This type of situation is exactly where someone like George Galloway would actually be very good.

I'm by no means a fan but he asks the difficult questions, it seems like nobody can be bothered with that right now.

titsbumfannythelot · 20/11/2020 09:03

Nobody in Holyrood

IwishIwasyoda · 20/11/2020 09:13

The loss of civil liberties and freedom of speech (i.e. if you express an alternative view you are immediately branded a Covidiot) bothers me greatly.

History is full of people imposing suspect laws/rules for the 'greater good' that actually result in undermining or dismantling democracy.

RaspberryCoulis · 20/11/2020 09:19

Me too. It;s really worrying that there is just no opposition or any challenge at all. But on the other hand it's hardly surprising as anyone who has dared to raise even the slightest criticism has been told that they are murdering grannies.

Bikingbear · 20/11/2020 09:28

I'm so glad that others as starting to see the level of control SNP want.

The whole Named Person, state guardians scheme was about control and interference in families and very open to abuse.
The school curriculum seems far too political.a

Bikingbear · 20/11/2020 09:34

Sorry hit post too soon.

DS came home with something the other day "First Ministers Reading Week" or something.
Could you imagine the up roar if Maggie Thatcher had done that, it wouldn't have bothered me if it was Scottish Reading Week.

Lots of other little things but it really does worry me. Even the 2m rule is guidance in England but law in Scotland.

Bikingbear · 20/11/2020 09:35

Sorry it was First Ministers Reading Challenge - Shock

WaxOnFeckOff · 20/11/2020 09:38

I could be wrong but I'm sure Swinney did a reading challenge at some point too, clearly he couldn't be trusted with it anymore.

Bikingbear · 20/11/2020 09:43

It's the naming of it, it's just wrong to me but I'm sure the Nikla lovers love it.

NotAnActualSheep · 20/11/2020 09:45

I too am getting more and more worried about the general acceptance of these restrictions, at Holyrood and in the general population. The ban on travel into and from England, especially (and Wales and NI too, but those are generally less relevant for daily life given the geography...). What's the time limit on that?! Why do we just have to "suck it up" to stop spreading the virus - there's no logic to that? A walk in a park in Northumbria isn't more risky than a walk in a park in the Borders.

Theoretically, anyone living in Scotland in level 0-2 is free to travel, but only within Scotland (or abroad, of course), and not to a level 3 or 4. That's not really "free to travel" then, is it. How isn't anyone apart from ONE SINGLE TORY feeling this is acceptable (and he only because it was directly affecting his constituents rather than the principle of the matter)?

I failed in an illegal walk to East Lothian from Edinburgh last night. First because it wasn't actually illegal last night (doh...) and second because I ran out of time before I had to turn round to walk back again to collect DS from his sport class. Edinburgh Leisure in their infinite wisdom have decided parents aren't allowed to wait in the building while children are having their classes, so I'm anticipating spending a lot of time brisk-walking outside in Weather over the next few months. I have dug out my warm gloves and fleece lined trousers. Shame, as there's several nice looking cafes and bars close by... but of course they are all closed.

NotAnActualSheep · 20/11/2020 09:49

Ha!! DS brought home a John Swinney Maths Challenge around this time last year, so I'm sure something will be coming... He refuses to fill in the reading diary, as "I don't want NS to know what I'm reading". Which may actually be a wise decision.
MaxNormal · 20/11/2020 09:50

So let me get this straight, if you live on the Glasgow side of the Clyde and walk to the Rutherglen Tesco you're a law breaker?

Dinnafashyersel · 20/11/2020 09:54

I know we are all having a laugh, but that's the point really isn't it? We are all able to risk assess various activities that break the rules but are actually non risky. Therefore, the excessive rules are meant to stop who? The folk that want to do more risky stuff don't give a fuck and the quiet folks aren't doing anything anyway. All they are doing is radicalising and criminalising perfectly ordinary people.

Absolutely perfectly put. Why on Earth do we not have any MPs or MSPs who are half as sensible?

On that note, here's a link to the maps of Local Authorities the SG have created - not like they couldn't be doing something more useful or anything. (thinking of printing them out in case we end up with home learning geography. Already got maps of all the Holyrood electoral areas - which totally don't align to this - ready for May)

www.gov.scot/publications/local-authority-maps-of-scotland/

I am a big fan of Orange buses and on that basis alone fully support the Independent Kingdom of Strathclyde campaign. Good job my DD didn't invest in the access all areas SPT pass, cos half the routes are now illegal.

We do live within 5 miles of 5 local authority areas so if it stops raining I might have to exercise my remaining rights to their fullest extent. May be a throwback to riding the marches when we were in Linlithgow.

Bytheloch · 20/11/2020 09:58

Not if you’re going food shopping, but yes if you’re going for pansies and cushions, which were the examples given by NS yesterday.

Hope that’s clearer. Sorry to disappoint if you intended to purchase pansies, specifically winter pansies.

Confused

@MaxNormal

The guidance says one of the exceptions is "travel for essential shopping only where it is not possible in your local authority area – you should use on-line shopping or shops, banks and other services in your local area wherever you can". So you'd have to argue that tescos was essential, and you couldn't get whatever it was you are buying somewhere else. Which is really very harsh... It would appear that, yes, going to a supermarket could potentially be illegal if that same supermarket is available in your council area (regardless how crap it may be, or how awkward to get to). That can't be right, surely?!
NotAnActualSheep · 20/11/2020 10:07

Incidentally, does anyone have the link to the regulations putting the travel ban into law? Can't see them obviously here www.legislation.gov.uk/ssi

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 20/11/2020 10:11

To get everything from the supermarket, I'd need to go to at least 2 local supermarkets instead of 1 non-local. Tell me, how does that reduce the risk of spreading / catching the virus?

dementedpixie · 20/11/2020 10:13

Don't know if this has more info

That really worries me to, the MSP resigned last night.

Well, precisely...
Dinnafashyersel · 20/11/2020 10:18

This is my City. Weird to watch such untarnished brutal honesty and have so much pride and hope in what it produces. The collateral damage is horrific. I don't think Govt "public health measures" are helping.

NotAnActualSheep · 20/11/2020 10:24
Yes, that is what I've been looking at to feed my outrage so far, but that is just guidance... I'd understood this was going to be put into actual regulations, and when they do that usually there are slight differences between what is in the guidance and what is made legal/ illegal. Also, the regulations usually have weird and pedantic explanations of perfectly normal words (like the description of a "cafe" and a "substantial meal" from a few weeks ago) that I like to imagine the drafters sweating over at 10pm the night before it is published. Cos I'm a bit weird.
Christmasbiscuit · 20/11/2020 10:46

Utterly fed up knowing what's coming.
I'm just wondering - does anyone wear a mask on the school run? I've seen a few people doing so but I don't as I'm outside and over 2m away from everyone...

Callisto1 · 20/11/2020 10:49

I wear a mask for school drop off but it's busy and no way can I stay 2m apart from others. Also the school has asked and I don't mind mask wearing that much.

blowinahoolie · 20/11/2020 11:31

"Me too. It;s really worrying that there is just no opposition or any challenge at all. But on the other hand it's hardly surprising as anyone who has dared to raise even the slightest criticism has been told that they are murdering grannies."

But remember it's all done for our own goodHmm even though of us who comply are even wishing we could get some way out of this, almost faltering at times with all the rules.
