Oh to be back in the first 9 weeks of term - that took us up to the beginning of October - nothing like it is now!

MurrayTheDemonicTalkingSkull · 18/11/2020 21:07

Does anyone know where the SAGE analysis that shows teachers are no more at risk than other groups is? It’s mentioned in today’s report, but not cited, as far as I can see. From what I remember, this was as compared with other key workers. I’d like to know what they’re counting within that group. If we’re talking the broader definition of key worker we had in lockdown, I think that would be fair and would make me feel a bit better. If it’s a comparison with health and social care workers, however, that would worry me. It all feels quite slippery.

Ninbuscl · 18/11/2020 21:07

So cases in England appear to be dropping since this time last week. But Scotland are only stable. Hopefully tier 4 will make a difference

Ninbuscl · 18/11/2020 21:09

I thought that mirrythedemonictalkinhskull. It’s the sort of statistic that can be manipulated to mean whatever you want it to mean

WouldBeGood · 18/11/2020 21:12

There’s no bloody hope, is there?

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/11/2020 21:18

The 3/4 statistic also means that the 1/4 will include schools with 1 single case which originated outside the school - and there's plenty of those. So for all the tiny schools biasing the result one way there will also be "linked cases" where one kid caught it at home and it didn't go around the school, where they caught it on holiday, and so on.

The 0.2% figure certainly suggests it is not rampaging through schools the way it has been implied.

anon444877 · 18/11/2020 21:18

There's always hope - lots of vaccines coming soon and strategies will change. Just need to all hold on a bit longer.

WouldBeGood · 18/11/2020 21:21

So why can’t this be good news? We wanted statistics and here we have some.

Pointless if the scaremongering continues

Callisto1 · 18/11/2020 21:23

What I would like to know is what is the prevalence of infection in teachers who work in secondary schools in high Covid areas. Is it the same as general population? If it is then teaching doesn't seem that dangerous.

I don't think anyone is arguing about teachers being at risk in tier 1 or 2 areas, but what happens when the numbers rise?
I really dislike this lumping together of primary and secondary and averaging over huge areas. I think it masks very serious inequality between what's happening in badly hit schools. And if people feel let down I can't imagine they will want to continue in their teaching jobs. Just seems very short sighted to ignore the chaos at some schools because most are fine.

WouldBeGood · 18/11/2020 21:24

Aaaaaargh!!!!!!!!!!

Simplyaghast · 18/11/2020 21:25

I’m absolutely snookered with the continued erosion of our civil liberties, and that people seem to be blithely accepting of it because Nicola goes on TV everyday to say it is so.

If there was to be a tier 4 it should have been weeks ago, at a push in Glasgow and North Lanarkshire. numbers have fallen, and continue to do so, with only Glasgow anywhere close to Tier 4 according to the SG’s own figures. There is a total disparity between Glasgow and Stirling but both have been lumped in together. Tier 4 was supposed to be to protect the nhs from being overwhelmed but hospitals have capacity.

People are adults and should be trusted to make decisions that affect their lives rather than have that dictated by the state.

ladylunchalot · 18/11/2020 21:25

It just feels like a huge roller-coaster ride - tougher restrictions just now hopefully bringing the numbers down, people going mental at Christmas and then we're back to huge numbers again in January.
I really want to hibernate until next summer, so done with all of this.

Yes to this
MurrayTheDemonicTalkingSkull · 18/11/2020 21:27

Absolutely agree, @Callisto1. I just want to know what it is I’m walking into every day.

Feeling dismissed, frustrated that I can’t do my job very well and really, really tired.

Direwolfwrangler · 18/11/2020 21:48

@Simplyaghast I couldn’t agree more. People are just handing over their freedom and not questioning any of it. Most people I know feel the same as me.

littlbrowndog · 18/11/2020 22:02

Yeah it’s just lock us up till Christmas let us out then lock us up again.

And yeah. Civil liberties like actually going to East Lothian to visit parents.

Against the law

Well I will be going.

Jail me 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

WouldBeGood · 18/11/2020 22:04

It’s all inhumane and nuts

MissEliza · 18/11/2020 22:14

Speaking from England here - I join in discussions about Scotland because I worry about my df in Scotland- I can't accept a short period of relaxation so people can get drunk and stuff themselves which will then lead to an austere January. Another lockdown then will cost jobs and businesses and deprive so many people of things which make them happy and healthy. For example; both my dcs are very sporty. They missed many months previously and are depending that this lockdown is a finite period. I know for sure they'd prefer to be able to play sports than have big get togethers at Christmas. It's a very personal example but I think the sacrifices expected in January are hardly worth a couple of days of family get togethers. As long as we have a way of making sure no one is isolated or alone at Christmas because of Covid rules, we don't need a massive relaxation.

WouldBeGood · 18/11/2020 22:16

Totally agree @MissEliza

Christmasbiscuit · 18/11/2020 22:17

I would rather have tier 3 than see family at Christmas (and I won't be anyway due to them shielding). I just feel fed up with the situation now.

WouldBeGood · 18/11/2020 22:35

@Christmasbiscuit I think a lot of people feel like you, me included

Yep, all of this

It seems there is not much support for the new measures?

Bikingbear · 18/11/2020 23:10

Civil liberties have gone out the window. Its incredibly worrying that we are living in a dictatorship.

Even if someone was to arrange a mass protest in one of the big cities, those from outside the city would be breaking the law to take part.

WouldBeGood · 18/11/2020 23:12

I agree. It’s terrifying and dystopian
