There should be another exemption if you live in Falkirk to allow you to seek out decent supplies.

Justmuddlingalong · 17/11/2020 15:25

I've tried to remain optimistic about the whole shitshow, but today I just feel done. I'm generally a glass half full person, but I'm really at the "what's the point" stage. My mood is unsettling me.

Dollybagwash · 17/11/2020 15:26

So do we not even have click and collect services for non essentials? I must have missed that in my rage.

littlbrowndog · 17/11/2020 15:27

3 weeks is a long time ffs

What are people meant to do

It gets dark after work

Just stare at walls and shout at the kids

HakeCod · 17/11/2020 15:27

@Belindabelle

Falkirk is in a very difficult position now as it is surrounded by tier 4 areas. I can see lots of people from the likes of Cumbernauld, Linlithgow and Stirling descending on Falkirk for shopping and cafes.

Arkadia · 17/11/2020 15:29

@StatisticallyChallenged, over the summers levels were VERY low inde d for a long long time. You wouldn't know because the SG kept spouting doom and gloom non stop. We never really left lockdown, which I do not believe made an iota of difference from may-june onwards. So we could have been even more locked up all summer, but in the end it would have made little to no difference as the virus would have just cropped up again.
The only alternative would have been to do a New Zealand and isolate yourself entirely, but

  1. at what cost and
  2. would it have worked?
rogueantimatter · 17/11/2020 15:31

Delurking from East Dunbartonshire.

This business about the prevalence of the infection being massively higher in level 4 areas than level 3 areas is so unscientific. Is the difference between 300 cases per 100k amd 200 cases per 100k even statistically significant? I know the WHO refers to rates using 100k as a measure, presumably because anything lower would be disproportionately affected by small changes in the numbers of positive cases but it's still the same as saying that in Glasgow for example, every day approximately 3 in 1,000 people test positive.

Apologies if this has been said on a previous thread.

I would absolutely back striking teachers.

Have you been to Falkirk? :o

Bytheloch · 17/11/2020 15:34

3 weeks, then mass panic shopping for Christmas, followed by being ‘telt again’ for going out. And repeat.

Amazon's profits will go through the roof. Sorry for those facing greater restrictions. We were going somewhere this weekend (hard to explain) that we can't now as would be moving up a tier. Otherwise not much difference. I hope to goodness it does actually work and all the tier 4 people get some relief very soon.

Belindabelle · 17/11/2020 15:43

I expect Falkirk will be tier 4 soon.

People from Stirling and Linlithgow will be mightily disappointed with our shops and cafes. Don’t get me wrong, there are many great things about living here but retail and cuisine aren’t it.

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/11/2020 15:47

It's impossible to tell now if we got the levels low enough over the summer that border restrictions would have saved us from round two or if the community spread was still enough to keep it going.
Arkadia · 17/11/2020 15:48

"short and sharp"
Does anyone believe it? Wasn't the "circuit breaker" or whatever was called last for the October holidays only? How many weeks ago was that?

Bikingbear · 17/11/2020 15:50

I've got a chunk of my Christmas shopping done, most of it done online. I do try hard not to use Amazon and to use independents when I can For example I bought a camera, it was bought online buy came from a shop in Cardiff.

NuniaBeeswax · 17/11/2020 15:51

"Falkirk is in a very difficult position now as it is surrounded by tier 4 areas. I can see lots of people from the likes of Cumbernauld, Linlithgow and Stirling descending on Falkirk for shopping and cafes."

Ditto Inverclyde. I don't understand the logic; she literally said that they don't want people travelling from Glasgow etc to Inverclyde because that will force them into tier 4; that's EXACTLY what's going to happen.

Dinnafashyersel · 17/11/2020 15:52

Ah but you've got the Kelpies and the Irn Bru Park belinda. Had a fab day out with my lot at the Falkirk wheel ages ago. Baby frogs all over the paths and my oldest fell down a rabbit hole (starting to feel like it was an alternate Universe).

We are tier 4. tbh so many secondary school children being sent home to isolate on a regular rotation it might have been better to announce on-line learning for them. If that helps keep the younger siblings out their hair by keeping primaries open then so much the better.

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/11/2020 15:52

Yes, short and sharp my arse - we're in the longest 16 days in history!

Arkadia · 17/11/2020 15:53

@StatisticallyChallenged, NZ never had a first wave, so the comparison wouldn't apply anyway as the starting positions are wildly different.

Bikingbear · 17/11/2020 15:56

Arkadia I don't believe a word of it.
We'll do this for 3 weeks, they'll be no change, the mindset 'I'm not, not seeing my mum while my kids go to school' won't change. If anything it will get worse.

The figures will keep rising because of secondary schools and the house visits. Then the bold Boris will decide what's happening with Christmas.

Dinnafashyersel · 17/11/2020 15:56

Nunia if the weather persists I don't honestly predict much of a dash for Inverclyde. Amazon otoh will do very well as will our local takeaway. In serious need of cheering up here.

titsbumfannythelot · 17/11/2020 15:57

@Arkadia

"short and sharp" Does anyone believe it? Wasn't the "circuit breaker" or whatever was called last for the October holidays only? How many weeks ago was that?
Most of us don't believe a bloody word of it
StatisticallyChallenged · 17/11/2020 15:58

I am aware of that Arkadia. My point was that there would be absolutely no point right now. There would have been a point in February, to stop all the half term post ski trip infections - arguable whether it's the right choice economically but from the pov of stopping it taking hold. There might have been a point if we'd done it over summer and maybe locked down longer so our community infections were negligible and were traced vigorously along with stringent quarantine. There would be no benefit to international travel limits now as we've already got it spreading freely.

anon444877 · 17/11/2020 16:06

Maybe we should buy each other takeaway gift cards for Christmas!

Bytheloch · 17/11/2020 16:09

My concern here is mention of imposing the travel ban in law. What does that even look like? Mention of banning non essential travel to England too🤔

Look beyond any rules for tiers and question this kind of action. For me-whether I’m travelling or not- the very suggestion that our local government can make it illegal to travel leaves me speechless and very concerned about powers at play. This is not UK law, nor does it apply legally in any of the other U.K. nations. How can we allow this to happen?
