Did anyone see the report about how busy Buchanan St was on Friday, ahead of possible tier move? Not moving up until next Friday means another week for most to get shopping and panic buying done. It shouldn’t be threatened the week before, apart from sending anxiety levels through the roof, it just means people have had since last week until next Friday to get as much done as possible (elderly included who want to buy gifts for family) as they mix in with the crowds for shopping, especially since ordering online isn’t an option for everyone🤷‍♀️

WouldBeGood · 15/11/2020 16:14

It’s pretty much full lockdown but schools open and the outside meeting in public places.

Bloody awful.

Scotslassie1 · 15/11/2020 16:15

I definitely agree Facebook is just a free for all and I've reported UFT numerous times but obviously nothing done. Surely the vile referred to by Lidlfix comes under hate speech.

WouldBeGood · 15/11/2020 16:18

The retail parks near me were stowed today. It’s really counter productive to issue these hints as it drives everyone together in a panic.

DS has just started at a gym (private as council still shut) to combat the physical and mental effects of the last lockdown. Gutting if he can’t go.

Bytheloch · 15/11/2020 16:18

So a week’s notice or tease of hardcore lockdown...and then we get told off for not staying home🤷‍♀️ Mixed messages much?!

WouldBeGood · 15/11/2020 16:18

I have been out as much as possible since it was allowed and can’t face a return to “stay the fuck at home” 😢

Tomorrowisanewday · 15/11/2020 16:21

Jason Leitch was on Off the Ball today, and was asked the question. He didnt seem to be saying that he and his colleagues were advising that they went to Level 4.

anon444877 · 15/11/2020 16:24

Yeah, Facebook has 2.7 Bn active monthly users. The govt has to legislate because they have no serious competition, the market isn't working.

TV companies do face some competition these days.

WaxOnFeckOff · 15/11/2020 16:25

I thought Jason would be keeping his head down due to the issues with the charity he is involved in in India.

WouldBeGood · 15/11/2020 16:30

Oh, @WaxOnFeckOff what’s that about?

WaxOnFeckOff · 15/11/2020 16:37

I think the usual charity with promotion of Christianity attached. India has laws in most of the states to forbid charities from any form of religious persuasion in any form and apparently they've been found to be doing so.

I've not read beyond that so far.

Obviously everyone has a right to their own beliefs as long as that doesn't harm anyone else, but not only id this charity with religion attached morally wrong, it's illegal in this situation.

WouldBeGood · 15/11/2020 16:40

@WaxOnFeckOff oh that’s pretty shite. I hate those proselytising evangelical charities, personally.

Public figures are all pretty shady, now, aren’t they?

Lidlfix · 15/11/2020 16:45

I don't do the Xmas shoebox with classes at school because of that aspect of the charity. And I would self identify as being Christian but don't agree with persuasion being part of a charitable act. It's children and a gift I find that sinister.

WaxOnFeckOff · 15/11/2020 16:48

Well I guess as a man of religion he probably wouldn't describe himself as shady...:o

But yes, I totally agree with you, no idea how involved he is.

Don't want to go off on a tangent but happy for folk to believe what they want if it gets them through the day but it's not for me and shouldn't be pushed on the vulnerable in exchange for charity, Samaritan's purse style.

WaxOnFeckOff · 15/11/2020 16:51

I agree Lidl and I protested about that when mine were at school. I think Mary's Meals seems to be better although it does have Christianity at it's core. I also complained about a trip DS went on where at lunch he was told to pray (yes, I am that parent!). I'm not quite sure they even got why I was unhappy.

Lidlfix · 15/11/2020 16:58

Be glad you never have to be present at an assembly where the Gideon's bible is involved...

WouldBeGood · 15/11/2020 17:03

Oh @Lidlfix I remember reading that when dd was “gifted” it at school. It’s proper bad stuff.

Bytheloch · 15/11/2020 17:18

Yes, I’d be guessing the papers have been waiting for a story about him.
I read the same one today and it makes for uncomfortable reading, particularly because it brings his personal faith and beliefs to the fore, something he’s kept private until now?

It might be time for another career pivot?

tigger1001 · 15/11/2020 17:32

I completely agree, receiving something from a charity shouldn't come with conditions attached. I don't do shoebox appeals for that reason
Cismyfatarse · 15/11/2020 19:00

I discovered today, from the Jason Leitch story in The Times that he is a dentist.

I had assumed Public Health Dr at least. Not a dentist.

WaxOnFeckOff · 15/11/2020 19:07

I think he has done various post grad qualifications in public health, but tbh I don't currently trust any of the views given and him in particular but that's just because I've gone with my instinctive reaction (very scientific!) and I just don't get good vibes. There are other opinions available.

WouldBeGood · 15/11/2020 19:14

What gets me about him is how far removed he seems from any humanity or empathy. Out of touch with normal people

titsbumfannythelot · 15/11/2020 19:35

Never trust a dentist with bad teeth

WouldBeGood · 15/11/2020 19:38

@titsbumfannythelot 😂

WaxOnFeckOff · 15/11/2020 19:46

I've read some of the comments at the bottom of the article. People seem to think that this is an own goal and that people will think even better of him now that he is providing education and medical treatment and doing camps. The fact that this is at the benefit of a bit of indoctrination and many children are converting to Christianity during the camps and this is happening without parental permission doesn't seem to matter.

I guess there are some sectors of people that see what they want to see and therefore anything that an organisation that they support does must be good. It makes me really sad tbh.
