@waitforitwaitforit yes proximity is a bit of a major - and entirely predictable- flaw with the Tier system, and why regardless of what happens with the numbers in Edinburgh we'll never be out of Tier 3.

Still I met my friend for lunch at the pub beside Dobbies yesterday - Dobbies cafe was completely full - and muddled my way round the various shops. At least that's still available to us - even if strictly speaking Dobbies is outside the city limits.
Bypass roads were very busy on Thursday and Friday ( had some time off work) I'm not sure where everyone is going as can't stay outside your own Tier. People certainly aren't staying at home this time - Cramond car park rammed at 10.30 on a Thursday morning.

I'm not saying the SG is doing a good job, but I think they're doing a marginally better job than BG who don't seem to think there are any steps between open pubs and six different households inside and total lockdown.

I just try to keep holding on to the main thing which is DS being back at school - I expect there will be a self isolation stint at some point and I'm steeling myself for that - but as long as his life is vaguely normal I try to stay upbeat - was going to say positive but best not !

Arkadia · 14/11/2020 09:15

The "Sturgettes" is priceless!!!

titsbumfannythelot · 14/11/2020 09:16

I think the shops are going to be very busy this weekend as it's one of the only things we can do and there's the treat of another lockdown.

I can't see the snp losing the next election, there is just no credible opposition. There are there no consummate politicians in the leadership positions.

anon444877 · 14/11/2020 09:21

Yes I was planning to take the dc to the shops - that is the problem with closing things, it funnels people into fewer activities. Park was heaving last weekend.

I'm holding out hopes for a uk labour surge, call me a dewy eyed optimist!

I can see the UK gov have scored some communications own goals and no fan of Boris but frankly I'd rather have been under their rules than these. To each their own!

dementedpixie · 14/11/2020 09:29

At least I've got my bog rolls 🤪
Got a groupon deal weeks ago

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 14/11/2020 09:46

I can’t face reading or watching it. It’s the pubs, restaurants and hotels I’m
heart sorry for.

Thing is - is labour even putting up a fight?

I loathe the SNP and will until my dying day. What they have done to my country. Destroyed education, divided us to the extent there are permanent wounds and now this.

sturgette · 14/11/2020 09:53

@WaxOnFeckOff that's my new username sorted!!!! Thanks. It's not that the embers needed poking just that I don't really like to get involved arguing with people who won't change their views.
Just as in real life I wouldn't bother going in a Rangers/ Celtic pub.

WaxOnFeckOff · 14/11/2020 10:02

One again you've attributed something to me that wasn't me. This is getting a bit of a habit...

StatisticallyChallenged · 14/11/2020 10:06

I'm at the hairdresser this morning, only twigged on the way that it's technically not allowed as it's in Edinburgh and I'm not! Oh no... chatting to hairdresser and they're expecting that if Glasgow goes tier4 they'll get people coming over to get their hair done here

Bytheloch · 14/11/2020 10:09

(Oh Wax, I’m sorry😳)

Won’t change their views, or won’t respectfully listen to someone else’s views? Sounds familiar 🤔

The ‘bringing in some light’ thread will be much needed ahead of Tuesday’s announcement😒

WaxOnFeckOff · 14/11/2020 10:17

No worries bytheloch. I've got broad shoulders... Grin

Yes, it's true that views are pretty entrenched but doesn't seem to stop the agenda being pushed at every opportunity to people who aren't interested. We obviously just haven't seen the light yet.

What hacks me if most is the dropping of soundbites as if they are facts and nothing ever to back them up.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 14/11/2020 10:17

But nothing is going to change. I really don't think those in West Central Scotland are crazy covid-denying rule breakers. There are obviously other factors at play, so they need to work out what they are and deal with them. Everyone's not catching it in Primark.

anon444877 · 14/11/2020 10:29

It's a rabbit hole situation - we don't really know where people are catching it, so we think the rule breakers are going to fess up when they test positive?

6 more weeks to vaccines - I need a count down!

I wish I had the untrammelled faith in any politician (or anything!) that some snp supporters show.

Arkadia · 14/11/2020 11:19

@anon444877, i don't want to quell your optimism, but the vaccine will make no difference in the short to medium term as it has to be administered, and after you have done all the "at risk" population, there will be the rest to do before you can actually move on.
So even if it does come, it works etc. etc, you won't see a great deal of difference until probably next autumn.

anon444877 · 14/11/2020 11:21

Lalalalala what was that @Arkadia I'm working to a 6 week plan here!

The SNP aren't going to go into an election cycle with this state of affairs.

littlbrowndog · 14/11/2020 11:23

Yes exactly icanboogie

Where is the virus been spread and who is spreading it and why

No just endless threats to the population

Iwillneverbesatisfied · 14/11/2020 11:36

Speaking of Christmas, I have no idea what to even get people because if you get vouchers - vouchers for what exactly? everywhere could be closed? And what if shops are closed? Plus I'm trying to avoid going to shops (vulnerable). What are people meant to do?

I'm not convinced about the vaccines. Its 90% effective, but on how many people? We have a 6 billion world population. Don't get me wrong, I hope there's a vaccine soon that properly works, but I'm not convinced by the Pfizer one. Storage at -80, distribution, costs etc will just lead to complete chaos.

Arkadia · 14/11/2020 11:46

@anon444877, hahahaha, I know the feeling :D

WaxOnFeckOff · 14/11/2020 11:54

Agree, I'm mainly just buying alcohol or chocolate/sweets/snacks.

No-one really needing anything and don't want to risk buying vouchers and no point buying clothes when there is no-where to go. Pyjamas? I bought DH a bloody kitchen knife for his upcoming birthday as I am so out of ideas, and a crossword book and whisky. I was thinking of putting £20 in 12 envelopes for DS2 so he can treat himself to something every month or maybe label each one on the front things like "Nandos", "Cinema", "crate of cider" etc to at least encourage him to use it for treats.

RaraRachael · 14/11/2020 12:12

My sister is still convinced NS is doing a great job of "keeping us safe" and I can't convince her otherwise. Mind you, this is from someone who never goes anywhere or does anything much so it probably isn't impacting on her very much.
I was so annoyed to hear on the news that we were being told that internet shopping would be detrimental to the environment with the amount of extra delivery vans that firms would need. Well how the actual fuckery are we meant to buy stuff if the shops are shut?

Christmas won't affect us too much as it was only going to be the two of us as DD is working and it's DS's turn to be at his dad's but I feel for friends who normally have family and friends round,

sturgette · 14/11/2020 12:22

@WaxOnFeckOff sorry it was @Bytheloch !!
I've not been in this thread since the bringing in light started, sorry completely out of the loop but couldn't resist Bear

WaxOnFeckOff · 14/11/2020 12:27

I was so annoyed to hear on the news that we were being told that internet shopping would be detrimental to the environment with the amount of extra delivery vans that firms would need. Well how the actual fuckery are we meant to buy stuff if the shops are shut?

Surely this is offset by the fact that no-one else is travelling to the shops?

Anyway, I've said for a while there should be more delivery hubs used by all firms so instead of having 4 separate Amazon vans, a hermes, a DHL and a ParcelForce etc all in the same street at the same time, one firm picks up everything for one area and delivers them all. Obviously someone better at logistics than me would need to be involved :o

Anyway, stop buying stuff, you might get a modicum of pleasure from buying/giving/using/receiving such things and we can't have that can we?

Also aren't we supposed to be trying to support businesses?

I think the next plan will be to charge more tax for being locked up so that that money can be given to companies to keep them afloat and in the meantime we all sit with threadbare breeks and broken appliances.

rookiemere · 14/11/2020 12:28

For Christmas, I'm going to try to get some gifts from places I still want to be in business and support so Edinburgh zoo and the Botanic gardens. It sounds awful but I shan't be buying vouchers for restaurants/cinemas/activities as who knows if they'll still be in business come 2021, but if they do any at home hampers or anything that exists in the here and now , I'll get those.

MumofHunter · 14/11/2020 12:36

Whoever said we've have it worse and for longer, absolute rubbish. Wales and Ireland shut schools, nurseries, restaurants, cafes, non essential goods taped off.

Currently, in England , all kids classes, toddler groups, swimming, restaurants, cafes shut.

Oh and for those in Aberdeen that like to moan about the SG, the Tory donating pub owner has been at it again with a video showing no safety measures being adhered to during the Scotland game ( owner himself was present).

The Draft Project bar, owned by PB Devco which also runs the nearby Soul Bar, was one of 28 venues linked to Aberdeen’s coronavirus cluster outbreak in August.

The bar's application for a pop-up tent venue was controversially fast-tracked in the summer after Tory MSP Liam Kerr called for urgent action. The owner donated £20,00 to the Tory party just before the last election.

The Scottish Hospitality Group called for the bar to be investigated. They said: "The scenes coming from #draftproject tonight in Aberdeen are nothing short of disgraceful. The SHG condemn fully the behaviour of the operator & customers. There is a duty to protect public health and we would support any action taken by authorities.

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 14/11/2020 12:48

Currently, in England , all kids classes, toddler groups, swimming, restaurants, cafes shut

Currently in Scotland, no kids classes, soft play, virtually no swimming open, those that are in very limited ways. In most areas restaurants and cafes not allowed to sell alcohol or be open for actual dinner. No visiting inside pretty much anywhere. For MONTHS. At least in England and Wales they've had a normal life recently, and there will be an end to their lockdown. We're rumbling on, endlessly restricted, with only the possibility of Tier 4 to look ahead to.
