October lockdown?

Hi
I can’t see another thread on this and I think it’s more Scotland than general CV related.

Any thoughts on this? I’m a teacher and there’s been no word at work but I’m hoping to go away for a week in half term (west coast) and really really hoping lockdown doesn’t happen! Selfish I know, but we need a break!

Anyone got any views on the likelihood?

@RaraRachael Edinburgh is beautiful for a good walk about when it’s cold and dry 😊 lots of lovely little streets and places to visit. I can wander there for hours 😊 are you staying in the city centre? So many good places for food too! 😊

RaraRachael · 10/10/2020 20:05

Yes we're in an apartment on George Street so hopefully lots of takeaways in the area!

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/10/2020 20:09

lots of places will be doing takeaway that don't normally, they are in my area anyway. There is always the Rose Street Chippy if you are desperate :) Proper Edinburgh salt and sauce experience!

WaxOnFeckOff · 10/10/2020 20:12

This article is from April about places that didn't normally offer takeaway but were doing during lock down - might be worth a browse.

@RaraRachael if you are on Instagram follow Fosterbloom. They are repeating a 16

trumpisaflump · 11/10/2020 08:44

Oops posted too soon. 16 days of Edinburgh takeaways. Some of them look amazing!

RWK29 · 11/10/2020 09:42

@RaraRachael ohhh perfect! There’s loads around that area 😊
Highly recommend Mimi’s Bakehouse for breakfast (it’s at the City Arts Centre just behind Waverley station) - classed as a cafe so still open for sit in 😊 Also amaaazing for cakes to take back to the apartment as a treat 😊
If you fancy pizza one night - Civerinos Slice does takeaway and delivery and is fantastic 😊

RaraRachael · 11/10/2020 10:39

This is such a nice, helpful thread Smile

I will look into all the suggestions. Leaving today for a night in Aberdeen then Edinburgh tomorrow

Goingdooolally · 11/10/2020 11:01

Ondine is gorgeous and doing take out. Maybe delivery? Worth looking into for a treat. Very lovely 💗

You are going to have a wonderful time. Edinburgh is divine - even with all this nonsense! The autumn colours are particularly lovely and if you get a crisp day just beautiful!

I had a brilliant day recently wandering around the Old Town looking at the vintage shops (reminded me of my teenage years). There’s some great ones if that’s your thing.

We had reservations at Ondine this week Sad . Hopefully it will be treat to brighten up dreary November.

Goingdooolally · 11/10/2020 11:36

Yes @Lidlfix something to look forward to. I may make a reservation for November too...

Just looked it up, looks lovely except I'm not really a fan of fish...

Here's hoping we all get away on our breaks or get a wee treat in for the hols.

Goingdooolally · 11/10/2020 11:40

Fazenda is an amazing treat for carnivores!

@Goingdooolally

Fazenda is an amazing treat for carnivores!
Just looked at the menu and pictures - oh my!

No drooling and away to do my grocery pick up.

Lidlfix · 11/10/2020 11:52

Sunday roast at Hawksmoore is great value. Though my student DDs get every penny worth at Fazenda to make up for all the noodles, toasties and pasta they normally exist on.

WouldBeGood · 11/10/2020 12:24

I’ve postponed my trip to Edinburgh this week as I want to go out for cocktails and food, but am saving these recommendations.

I used to love Cockburn Street as a slightly gothy teenager, and Victoria Street and around when a bit older. Fond memories of Rosie’s hat and accessory shop.

Also used to go to Chez Jules, so was delighted to go back the other week: cheap and delicious French food in true French style! Think they are doing takeaways too.

rookiemere · 11/10/2020 12:41

If you like steak then Fazenda is amazing. It's particularly good value if you have a child under 12 that likes steak Grin!
First Coast also does very good home delivery meal but you need to book during the week.

WaxOnFeckOff · 11/10/2020 12:47

Great recommendations folks, looking forward to trying them out. My DSs at under 12 would love steak, unfortunately they struggled to pass for under 12 even when they were, at 19 and 20 I don't think i'd get away with it Grin

They would definitely get their monies worth now though.

I used to love chez jules, DH and I used to go there when we were courting, can't believe it's still going. Nice cafe on cockburn street as well. right on the corner of one of the closes and great for people watching.

If we stay in the Hub hotel, we usually go there for breakfast/brunch.

Bytheloch · 11/10/2020 16:51

@WaxOnFeckOff off topic, but we did the same with Chez Jules (at least 20yrs+ ago). Loved the big pan of potatoes, despite the fact I would usually burn myself on due to the limited table space. Sometimes went to cafe Florentine aka sunflower cafe, which is long gone. Lovely reminder of dating...sooooo long ago now.

Sorry, back to the topic nowGrin

WaxOnFeckOff · 11/10/2020 19:03

We were maybe sat next to each other @Bytheloch. We've been married nearly 25 years and we didn't have a long courtship.

rookiemere · 11/10/2020 19:35

DH and I had our first date in Petit Paris in the grassmarket approximately 17 years ago - must check the actual date with him. Although when we went back a couple of years ago, it felt a bit shabby as if nothing had changed from then, except -I noted- the prices.

Our plans for next weekend still up in the air and dependant on Boris's big announcement tomorrow. Contenders are Stockton-on-tees ( where relatives are), Pooley Bridge if we can't stay in Stockton-on-tees but they're allowed to travel or Linn of Dee. Teen DS equally enthusiastic about all options and is having to be bribed with new Fifa game after explaining that the dogsitter would not be keen to have him at home Grin.

WaxOnFeckOff · 11/10/2020 19:40

@rookiemere, we'd moved out of Edinburgh by that point and also had two toddlers and no babysitting options. We didn't go out until they got to the age of being both old enough to go to Cub camp.

DH and I met at work while both temp-ing. Our first dates were more team outings to the pubs and clubs, I honestly can't remember what counts as a first date.

rookiemere · 11/10/2020 19:44

I met DH through online dating , hence why we both remember first date. It was in the days dial up modems to trawling through potential Mr Rookies took up most of the evening.

WaxOnFeckOff · 11/10/2020 19:52

You obviously chose well. I hope you get away. I'm also sweating on whatever comes from Boris on Monday.

WouldBeGood · 11/10/2020 20:34

Sweating to see if can get to Peak District here
